A Taste of Africa from Malawi

Hi all. Got a couple of questions. I'd be very grateful if you guys have a look at these photos and let me know what phenotype my Malawi might be?

The other question is on feeding her. She is 54 days old from the seed. Today is the third day of 12/12. Up to this day I have been giving her only water. There is enough food in the soilmix, that consists of good quality soil, worm casting, Guanokalong Powder (NPK 1-10-1) and perlite. Should I start giving her bloom nutrients now? I am using BioBizz nutes. As I said in my previous post this is the first time I am growing a sativa strain, so knowing what I shall be doing beforehand is essential. Many thanks in advance.
Hard to say for sure in the heavily orange HPS light but I don't think you need to reach for any bottle yet.

Hi everyone

Just a pic of a few for now to show how well they are doing.
Things are crowded and mixed up right now. Still sexing everything.
Flower room will be clear in a month or so. Many will be moved into there.
Have some very potent looking plants I will take more pics of later.
One of my favorite strains and can't say enough about it here.

Later :watchplant:

How are they doing one month later @Zanddar ? :) Still in veg or already in flowering ?

**bad pic alert**

Malawi plants in the flower tent. 1 male, 1 female, and 1 has yet to tell me what it is. Structure is nice on these. Have them in living soil I put together, and they seem to be rocking and rolling nicely. They're next to some Tom Hill Haze, Vietnamese Black 164, Todd's O Haze, Afgooey, and a NL5..it's a party in that bitch.

Peace y'all! View attachment 18841001 View attachment 18841002 View attachment 18841003 View attachment 18841004 View attachment 18841005 View attachment 18841006

Happy to see you join the Malawi jungle @PlasmaTube :giggle:looking forward to follow the female (hopefully females) in flowering. What did you pollinate with the Malawi male ?

Welcome @amc888 and thanks for choosing Malawi for your current grow and for sharing your efforts with her  She is a picture of perfect health in your last update, i won't externally feed now, but if the green color starts to fade then start using BioBizz fertilizers.

Malawi strain is quite uniform for growing traits.
The 3 main Malawi phenotypes i like to differentiate: Old Killer, New Killer and fruity are mostly related to flowering traits, that's why i prefer to wait until second half of flowering before comment on Malawi phenotypes.

The first 2 were bred for max potency and THC content, great vigor and yields, huge trichomes ... although there are slight differences regarding flower structure and resin distribution between the Old and New. The fruity obviously stands out for having more refined mandarine type of terpenes, while the Killer types are quite rude in terpenes (woody, oily).

Are you growing the regular or feminized version ? By the look most probably fem version and closer to New Killer, we will see in more detail during flowering.

Hey Dubi and Friends! I guess I kinda went into the dark abyss with a bunch of Jars hahaaa!

The Malawi bud didn’t last long but we sure did enjoy it! This was the last bud left 😔

Meanwhile I popped a pack of regs kinda just a spur of the moment thing, I only got 6 to pop, probably my fault but not as many as I wanted to make a selection. This time I wanted to veg them much longer and try to get them much more mature at flip this time! I went ahead and socked them into to pool with out sexing yet, not sure how I’m going to work that with the males 🤷‍♂️

Anyway they are looking beautiful and happy in the living soil pool, the worms are exploding in there and have completely consumed all the plant material for last grow!

Thanks again for the opportunity to grow these awesome genetics!

hehehehe @tjmccoy a wardrobe full of Malawi jars is like a black hole and can make you disappear for months! :ROFLMAO:

Glad you enjoyed it and that you are already flowering more Malawi seeds in hunt for more!
They look happy and strongly branched, speaks good about your lamp.
Please, keep us updated in flowering! 🙌

Astonishing yields you get from your indoor sativa plants @Chuckeye :p i was about to tell you that you were forcing a bit too much the Malawi with the feeding, but obviously you know how to press the buttoms heheheheh She looks from here a classic Old Malawi Killer pheno. A few days more and should be ripe enough.
Thanks @dubi ;)

I definitely had one toe over the line with nutrients.

None of the girls needed more than the recommended feed levels....

She comes down tonight :canabis:

Cheers

Hello @dubi
Thank you very much for your reply! Correct, it's the fem version. The plant has had a strong smell for a month or so. I was very surprised that in veg she could smell like that. The smell reminded me of hash but now that you mentioned oily terpens, I think it's oily, yes :) I watered the plant with aerated compost tea 2 days ago. She is in a 20 liters fabric pot and she's getting 4 liters of water every 2 or 3 days. How does Malawi take heat? I use a 600 watt HPS lamp for flowering period. The temperature is between 23-27 degrees light on and 18-21 degrees light off. I'll be posting new photos and updates on her growing process here every now and then and if you don't mind some questions if there are any.
Once again thank you very much and my kindest regards!

Yes exactly hahaaa

Still in veg at this point they are looking very shiny and sexy! The living soil bed just keeps getting better, they are on a warm 1k metal halide. 😎

Hi @amc888 Malawi deals very well with the heat both in growing and flowering stage, but for best quality of the flowers and to avoid excessive reflowerings make sure temps don't go higher than 27ºC and there's 4-5ºC difference at night time.

Hey @dubi I'm on page 43 and loving what I'm seeing so far. I recently popped 3 reg malawi going straight into 12/12 from seed due to space issues and was just wondering if you could tell me anything about the parents and any particular phenos to look out for. The packing date is oct 2021. I'm in coco and planning on flowering for 13 weeks. Thanks for any help

Welcome DanTheReggaeFan :) thanks for joining us here in the ACE Malawi thread.

Parents used for Malawi seed production are the same already for many years. Most relevant phenotypes that can be found in Malawi line are Old Killer, New Killer and fruity, all of them can be easily identified during second half of flowering.

What to look for in Malawi line ? Lots of vigor, very high yields, super resinous buds of huge trichomes, dense flowers of great flower/leaf ratio, overpowering, long lasting, profound effects.

Congrats on your Malawi harvest@Chuckeye ;) Please get back to us with a smoke report after proper drying/curing. Enjoy!

What about those resinous Malawi flowers in your latest post @goingrey ? :giggle:
From same Malawi harvest or a new one ?
