I use two inch Carlon fittings with two 2" pvc wicks...had to sawzall off half of the female fitting but it works like a dream. So again, two 2" wicks in a 7 gal tub. The wicks are 6" long

so this one goes to top :http://www.homedepot.com/p/The-Home...CH=RV-_-rv_search_plp_rr-_-NA-_-205300201-_-N
and this one will be bottom : http://www.homedepot.com/p/Argee-3-...CH=RV-_-rv_search_plp_rr-_-NA-_-202247747-_-N
and tail should be 1.5 inch or 2 inch ?
Also how much media i should put in 2 gallon bucket ?
And will this size grow 1 pounders ?
How long to veggie ? 4 weeks ?
i understand ,it always factor ,i could screw up too .

yes, with this tailpiece. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Oatey-1-1-2-in-x-6-in-PVC-Flanged-Strainer-Tailpiece-C9800/205154040

fill the 2 gal to within an 1" or 26mm from the top.

i can't answer your other questions because of the variables but i think you can grow 1 lb plants in these with the right lighting and veg time.

got today 12 3.5 gallon buckets with 6 lids ,2 inch black pvc pipe ,goodyear 5/8 hose

I was going to buy 2gallon upper buckets ,but HD have them only in white ,so i went with all 3.5 gallon blacks ,top and bottom ,i hope i did right . And i know D9 said 1.5 inch tail ,but i bought 2 inch because upper buckets will be 3.5 g ,instead 2gallon ,correct me if i am wrong ,please .

what is the significance of the 1" / 26mm from the top with media? would the measurement be the same with the 3.5 gallon bucket?

nothing special, rover747 asked about the fill level and that's about right. and in the 3.5 gal buckets it should work fine too.

D9 what was a original problem with 3 gallon/40 quart set up ? Media was getting dry too fast or something else ?

we are not really sure yet. some people are not having any problems and some are. i suspect that it close to some kind of ratio limit involving tailpiece diameter and depth/volume.

Hi Rover, please dont take this wrong but this system is not one that needs to be exact and yhat only certain parts can be used. You dont need to ask D9s permission about every single piece. Go read all the ppk threads to see how others have built their systems. They are not exact duplications and there is wide latitude on assembly. Im sure the questions are not minded but they are easily answered with a little research.

Or better yet, start a thread of your own....

Btw it does not matter what float valve you use. You just need one. Hydro stores or mail order will get you there. 1/4 Or 3/8 inch feed line float valves it doesnt matter they all work fine. Get one like you see in the pictures.

Peace and respect

Hi McKush .
I spend at least a week to go from thread to thread ,and read ,before i ask single question ,i do make a notice on my laptop and try save much as possible photos .But sometimes it is controversial information around and it hard to filter what is right or wrong ,unless i built one and try it .
If you think it is not appropriate to ask question here ,i can go away ,no problem .
And i do plan to open my thread when system will be ready ,and it will be ppk with led lights which i built .

There really isn't any controversy with a ppk anymore. For a while it was hard to decipher when D9 needed to clean up his pictures but not anymore.

Here is a link that some old goat posted which shows you "an example" of a float valve. So you just get one that looks like it. I don't know how the old coot figured out the one to get that is shown in the picture, he isn't too bright I'm told. He just looked at pictures and read threads for, oh, um, i heard over a year at least. Then when he started to build his he just sorta pieced it together with what he could find locally, online, and at nearby hydroponic gardening center. I heard he winged it.

There are many float valves which work, brand and part is not that important.

here is a link to an online vendor of the Hydro-Logic float valve like the one from the pictures above:

can i use this : http://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-27-Gal-Storage-Tote-in-Black-HDX27GONLINE-5/205978361 for reservoir with 3.5 g buckets or i need bigger one ?
And i measure from bottom of upper bucket trough hole to bottom of lower bucket and it was around 10 inch .So what size tailpiece i should make ? 8 inch or 6 inch ? Pump i assume should be around 600gph or bigger ?
Thank you in advance

that tote will be fine and the types of float valves mckush linked to are good and cheap. cut the tailpiece pipe at 8".

i really don't mind if you ask questions. that's what i'm here for.

your english is pretty good for a second language.

I agree with you in principle, McKush, but anytime English is not someone's first language, I think we can all spoon feed a little more.

That being said, McKush is quite correct. Get the flow diagram right, and you are off to the races.

If anyone here has ever had the misfortune of building a KBS, you know how maddening it can be to be told you must have each part exactly right.

Just one more reason why ppk is so liberating.

Washing Turface

Washing Turface

Getting ready for my first grow, and I'm thinking about Turface. Looking at previous posts about washing it, the recommendation is lots of running water with turning the product over with shovel or hoe. Fair enough. Is this OK to be done with regular tap water or does this also need to use RO or distilled?

I did a little rinsing with distilled but reading past posts on the subject, seems like I need to do more than a rinse.

tap water for flushing the small pieces n dust out. if ur doing a ton of it, d9 set up a concrete mixer to do the job.
