It is the newer one. He made one about 10 or 15 years ago that was good but the newer one is suppose to be better. And you cant get the older one now I think.

I had a Vaughn with a wood handle but after time the head just kept coming loose. So i went with the Estwing. It has been my favorite since and I have had quite a few over the years.

But I broke a tendon in my pinky and I have a hard time gripping the handle now. And I think I should go with a lighter hammer to help keep my elbow from hurting. I think it is the tendon going to the pinky and I am gripping the handle to tight because of the weight.

I worked with a guy who used an Estwing years ago and had to stop because of carpal tunnel.I don't think it was the eastwings fault because the guy hand nailed every thing but I took a mental note.

I use hitachi on the roofs and senco cliphead for the framing.I use a computer for most things:biggrin:

I have no idea how the speed square stayed so long but I hack sawed notches for all the lumber sizes on the side of the square. So I can just run the square down some trim with my pencil in a notch and rip what i need if table saw is put away.

Before I started growing and when I roofed all the time I got three Hitachi roofing nailers free one year. The supply house was giving away a nailer with every pallet of nails you bought. I was using 2.5 pallets a year at the time. That is 864,000 nails. The salesman couldnt believe how many I went threw every year.

He said a 8 man crew only used 3 pallets a year. I told him they did tear offs and I did almost all new. And that they only roofed for about 7 months a year because of the weather. But he still kept laughing about it.

At the time I did almost every new house around here. I roofed for 42 contractors. A new roof about every day and a half.

Raining here...too much right now for our evening walk so will have to coax the gals in a bit so they can do their business

Day 42, since I enjoy making and dabbing concentrates....looking forward to harvest day on these. Seed shucking may be a chore but was planned so its all good.

Stellar photos uncle!

I carry a bag of hammers. Most of the time I use one instead of a gun it is because I need to move something or help it into place so I like oversized long framing hammers and I wouldn’t go anywhere without a short handled sledge. That’s some real deal roofing ichabod. Roofing is the quickest way to find out what kind of a worker someone is. You could make a million in Florida this next year.

Haha not any more. That was a long time ago when I was younger and in shape. I could not even come close to that now.

It is amazing how many times you can use a hammer in a day. I find it is much faster to just hand drive a bunch of nails than break out a hose and compressor many many times.

I was thinking of how many nails I used in a day and thought of this one time I had 2 friends who needed money working with me. In 8 hours we hit the roof about 15,000 times when you add up the staples and nails we used. The bad part was that there were about 20 guys working inside the house when we were doing that. The builder was in a rush and had the framers, plumbers, electricians, heating guys, and alarm guys in the house. They were tripping on each other all the while we were banging the shit out of the roof.

Sucked to be them.

So about two hours of snow coming down then.

All our snow is gone except the plowed up banks. It has been raining since yesterday afternoon here. Not heavy just a drizzle.

that just sounds awful....

if it actually snows i'm sure it will be the usual half cluster fuck of people driving even more idiotically than usual and people making dirty, icy snowmen...

the local news from albuquerque and up north is filled with pics of like 2 inches of snow and how its totally bringing the state to a halt...pretty funny...
