From the day I got out of high school..

Hubby and I were out shopping yesterday, walking around Costco with all the food stations they have and the ppl that stop there to graze....blocking the isles and not giving a shit except getting free food! We tried to get thru one of these when this guy tried to shove his way past, babba just cut him off bam!! It was funny....I was thinking about this thread, there is so much "me mentality " so many ppl drive and act like that it's very sad.

byproduct of unbridled capitalism, the ultimate value of society is not placed on our SHARED humanity (which is the spine to the book of our current society whether it is recognized or not) but on our individual desires.

I think it is something we are all confronted wiht at times I guess its a matter of feeding into it.

i spent my childhood mostly in a socialist country, where civility is generally foremost. moving to the u.s., americans routinely stop to converse when they meet someone but don't bother to move out of the way, in doorways, on the road in cars. everyone else just gets to eat shit and figure out their own way around.

americans don't notice how different they are. in the country i grew up in, there were television shows for children, and none of these shows had enemies or bad people. no skeletor, no gargamel. the plot of the episode always involved a problem occuring then people working together to solve it. no one was blamed, and solving the problem was everyone's priority. in the united states, kids shows have a problem, and you have to beat someone's ass to solve it.

End Of Story. That's Entertainment. a good time was had by all grotesquely malformed suckers.

i wish americans could understand that about themselves. if americans could think about this one simple thing about themselves.

yeah costco - saw this ~6'8" guy from africa working there.. must have recently got here because he towered above everyone else and had this look of abject horror on his face above a sea of rotund, barely sentient people pushing carts of massive amounts of material resources taken from god knows where at what cost to be crapped around by some fat guy with a lucrative station who really doesn't give a shit. so this is how hell works.

absolute horror. no one seemed to notice.

add 5% more apathy, no worries.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
— Margaret Mead

Commentary

Each component of Margaret Mead’s compelling formula for changing the world is an essential element. Her command to “never doubt” tells skeptics that they are wrong – you really can change the world – and also underscores the transformative power that belief plays for those who have successfully sought to change the world. History, has demonstrated that small teams of thoughtful committed people have achieved extraordinary things. The Civil Rights Movement began as a series of small groups carrying out small actions, such as sitting down at a segregated lunch counter. India’s historic independence from Great Britain began as a series of small strategic actions from a dedicated few. Habitat for Humanity began with a few people building houses for the poor in a small town in Georgia and has since built more than 175,000 houses in countries around the world.

Well said wave, it's so true... ..I wish the U.S. would take more from Europeans, the way they view alcohol and sex is so much more common sense. This country is going to hell a little more every day....I have thought about moving out of this country but not seeing my grand kids and kids would be tough.

I care about my job cause it's my company and I'm busying cashing in on the collapse of the oil market.

Everyone in the oil business who previously didn't care about their job and took advantage of the good times is caring about it now.

Oh, Weird. I would argue that this in unbridled Fascism (crony capitalism). Different from capitalism in theory, but maybe this is just it in practice. Looks like all -isms are just fancy words for the eventual outcome which is collectivism no matter what the proles do.

I stopped traveling abroad because too many 'mericans dressed like
clowns milling about slack jawed in their pursuit of mediocrity.

America is the Florida of the planet.

sigh.

Also, as a matter of sarcastic humor, I would add more content
to this post, but I just don't care to.

I got a hunch this is a worldwide/first world problem.

2nd and 3rd world countries probably are not included.

edit: after reading MrsBabba's post before, I realized the thread should be titled "90% of people don't care about what they do". It really is not just limited to the work they do, it's everything.

"authorities" like to argue about the alleged "base nature" of human beings.. i'm getting on to 50 and i've never seen anything to even suggest that people are inclined towards irresponsibility when faced with worthwhile activities.

it's like genedigger's post, honest, hardworking people often get mobbed out of a job by the lazy people who they "make look bad". levels of mediocrity must be maintained so your boys can skate on by. people with integrity are a threat and have to be deposed.

people who grow up living in nature understand what needs to be done for their own good. people who live in a box and out of a box, divorced from production, are only concerned with what options the system presents to them, and if they can be negotiated/deferred. this is all they have an opportunity to understand because it is their world, instead of the real mechanisms of production. and they think they can transfer these laziness/negotiation/opportunism skills to nature because they are unaware of the systemic nature of the ecology.... aamof, the awareness of civilised people is too focused to properly integrate with the living world, maybe you know ;)

time for a bowl :)

Being that America is built on democracy and driven by capitalism, could it be the consequence of the rift between the two?

Is this chasm the womb of corporate fascism?

I don't know if i can argue against it.

This may be a semantically driven point, but I think choosing language is important.

I would argue that America is theoretically built on being a Republic (much different from a democracy) and free market capitalism.

I believe where we are at is undoubtedly corporate fascism which can pervert the good intentions of any ideologist philosophy. Although the US is certainly the epicenter of this since the 1940's i think the model has been adapted internationally for the most part (ie China, supposedly communist strikes me as a collectivist corpro fascist state, Russia, UK, etc etc). Everywhere I look I see entrenched crony capitalism no matter what banner of philosophy the state's try to disguise it under.

I really think Crony-Collectivism ideally describes most developed and undeveloped countries at this time. The world strikes me a massive Global Banana Republic, yet we spend most of our time fighting each other over ridiculous nuances in the Geo-political and economic system.

In other words, while we are busy killing ourselves over nuance, the collectivist cash in.
