Nice cabs peeps! I envy some of you... haha. so a question for those who think they might know the answer... I just finished working on my speaker cab equipped with a 70w HPS and 1 27w 6500k CFL. Stealth is always a factor. Not because I'm a kid but for nosy people around here, besides sheriff's station 2 minutes away. Just can't risk what took so long to acquire and accomplish... soooo I have everything inside the speaker including ballast. I did a test run for 7 hours and temps reached only 80*f-81*f without a small fan I'm going to include for the plants enjoyment. I have the ballast inside a 4s metal box and where I placed it, the outside of the speaker feels warm, I touched the 4s box and it's hot! (obviously because of the ballast). I built a customed air-cooled hood and I'm able to put my hand underneath it without feeling too much heat. Question: is this a potential fire hazard or will it be ok? Please advise.

the ballast is hot yes, but if you wired it up all correctly there should be no fire hazard. mine sits in a wood (particleboard) cabinet on a shelf and hasnt set my house on fire in 3 years of use.

im starting a new grow.

im gonna flower out my mother and a clone for a new mom.
then 1 got 1 bagseed i brought back from a trip to FLA, well i brought back like 6 seeds only 1 made it. i also got 1 kush seed that made it, another unknown bagseed, and 3 of my misha, 1 is a mutant runt i hope it lives cuz its crazy lookin.

clone(cant remember what it was), tray with 2kush,3uknown bagseeds,3misha, the mom (she survived 2 weeks no watering since the time i left), and another bagseed i brought from florida.

this is like 3-4 days ago ive transplanted the tray since then. the survivors anyway. only 1 kush, 1 bagseed and the 3 misha's made it.

Hi everyone, Well I just got my 70 watt MH was wanting to get HPS but MH will do for now.

I need to make a speaker cab, That is in the works. I have a good sized speaker box but I need to browse these threads and find a way to make a door lol its all glued together .

ATM im useing a rubbermaid tote for my girl and it isnt working out to well. I have nowhere solid to mount my huge light .

Well I thought I would pop in and say hi. If anyones gotta good link to a speaker cab let me know.

Edit: The 70 watt security light I bought has a plastic cover over the bulb. Should I remove it ? Not sure if it makes a difference in the lighting.

what you wanna do is take all of that apart and remote the ballast. if you search for remote ballast or look in the DIY thread stickied at the top of the forum you can find a tutorial.

ok thanks, I was thinking that after I posted it. just take and add more wire to the bulb base and mount it up where I need it, is my thought . But I will check the thread you mentioned thanks again.

Just finished doing that and the wife helped with the cab. as well. I still need to cut a door for the cab but its coming along much faster than I expected.

The wife wanted to put a layer of aluminum foil on the inside so I let her. Is it going to be fine in there ? I will be getting something better when I can.

Pictures coming soon just waiting till I get the door on which should be in the next day or 2.

I would rip out the aluminum foil and just get bright white paint. Its alot more reflective.

yeah it should. Just get a ultra white or what ever they call it at home improvement stores.

yeah flat white, or matte, non glossy. or use sheets of white paper. not foil though. if you have a gift wrap party supply store go in and look for a roll of that "foil" wrapping paper. its the same as mylar cept its thinner and has designs on one side. take that stick the design side down to the walls. cheap mylar. you can prolly get 24 feet in a roll for $1.

Well Ive already started painting. 1 more coat and it should be good.

I wish I had a smaller fan, the 1 I have is way bigger than it needs to be . But I will be going thru my basement later today amd hoping to find something more suitable.

I know I have an air hockey table fan . I wonder if I hook a 12v converter up to it if that will bring it down to a useable speed. The speed it goes now would probably blow the plant out of its soil.

Also I figured out a door just need to mount it on after paint is dry and seal the light leaks if needed.

heres a question im sure 1 of you gentlemen can answer.

My ballast seems to make a very low buzzing noise is this normal ? Im almost sure its the ignitor .

probably not your ignitor. Being a transformer, a low buzz is not uncommon. My old 70 w made a very low hum and was too hot to touch.

A very low buzzing sound is normal. Just make sure to put it on something like hard wood. Cause they do get hot.

Well It seems to stop and quiet down after an hour or so. Its been running great.

How far away should the bulb be from the plant ?

6 to 12 inches. after 12 inches the light falls of pretty quickly. theres a light chart somewhere on this site.

does it come with a capacitor? you can probably run the internal ignitor lucalox hps in that.
