400 watt club...

Light bleaching/burning is still a concern regardless of temperature. Also, the glass being cool to the touch doesnt mean the surrounding air is completely cool too. One of my Cool Tubes is cool to the touch but the temps right beneath it (6") are still near 90 degrees. There are several variables to consider when deciding light distance.

I think I disagree with that...if I understand it correctly. There is NO artificial light made that comes anywhere close to the brightness of the sun.

If plants get damaged from being too close to a grow light, it is the heat that does the damage.

My 400W HPS was never more than 10 inches or so from the tops of plants. I did not have any air flow thru the light either...just had the heat absorbing glass( I highly recommend having heat absorbing glass too).

yea i mean i can put my light close n keep it cool i have a 6'' vortex cooling it thats overkill imo

i was more concerned about light bleaching
im gonna do some searches n get back to yall

Well, direct outside daylight in the summertime averages somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10,000 foot candles(i got that in my cab). This is equal to 10,000 lumens per square foot. If you compare this to the output of our thousand watt metal halide bulb earlier, we can see that the sun does a pretty good job.

However, the sun is subject to annoying little changes in weather that our artificial lighting is not. On an overcast day, the amount of lumens that the sun produces drops to about 1,000. If you were standing under a large, tall tree, the amount of light falling on your head is referred to as open shade. Open shade produces about 300 foot candles. In the deep shade, you would be experiencing around 50 to 100 foot candles, and under the light of a full moon you would be subjected to .02 foot candles.

So, artificial light is not subject to the interruption of inclement weather, and we can run our light for the optimum period of 12 to 18 hours per day on our plants, whereas the sun only produces six or seven hours of useable light.

Brainthor pointed out a big part if it so I wont rehash that. What I experience is a cool-to-the-touch light that still registers 90 degrees a few inches below the light with ambient room temps of 75. How can the light itselt be cool to the touch but still show 90 degrees? I think it has to be something related to the intensity of the light causing heat in some way but I dont know shit about physics, I just know what I see and touch. The only other thing I can think of is that since our bodies are 98 degrees, touching 90 degree glass feels "cool" by comparison. Dunno, would like to figure it out tho.

Btw, I just realized this is the 400w club and Im using 600s...oops.

I had two Ice and two Aurora Indica under a 400w hps. Vegged 33 days and flowered for about 9 weeks before chopping.

Click on pics to enlarge

Here they are about a week before chopping. The two plants in back are just over 4 feet tall. The ones in front are just under 4 feet.

Here's the main cola from one of the Ice plants before trimming. about 110grams green weight

After trim 98 grams. After drying this cola was just under 1oz 26 grams if I remember correctly

here is the two Ice plants drying

This is after drying and a couple weeks into curing. I got a bit over 7.5 oz dry cured bud from the 4 plants. I got another 100+ grams of very nice sugary trim for making hash as well.

Both are very potent. I wasn't thrilled about the Ice. Both Ice phenos were indica dominant. I was hoping for more sativa influence from them. Both were heavily covered with resin. A month after drying and curing both still feel "sticky". My scale is accurate to .1 grams. I can take a .1 gram hunk and cut it in half. Two good hits from approx. .05 grams and I'm doing good :sasmokin:

I've got enough of this couch lock pot for now. I'll be growing a sativa hybrid next. I really crave the kinda weed used to get back in the late 60's and 70's

Good luck to all of you

Looking good my man. What are you growing there? Shouldn't you be using a HPS now that you are flowering? Or you can't get one where you are?

Both my Ice turned out to be Indica dominant phenos. Very potent ones too. Resin on them was incredible. The trim should make great hash. The AI was also really good. About 2 hits from .05 g of either and i'm on cruise control.

I have Sativa and Sativa hybrids I'm gonna grow next. Malawi Gold, Durban Poison, Thai-Tanic, Satori, and some Cali Orange Bud. I want to grow weed like we used to smoke 40 years ago. That weed that used to make you want to GET UP AND DO SOMETHING!!! I used to throw away coffee cans full of seeds....like everyone else. Hard to imagine these days isn't it? Shit I AM getting old!!

Obli :sasmokin:

hey buddy :rasta:
When i went to buy the light i wanted HPS 400 but at that time the guy said he's out of hps400s, just hps600s & hps1000s so i was a lil forced to buy MH400... it works great tho...but for now i'll leave it coz i just baught an AC just 4 the plants coz the were half burned from 95-98f temps :yoinks: but now its totally different :canabis: .I'm growing Chronic got 3 girls & started my first clone as a test, i baught a pack of AI seeds ready for my next :headbange

u got nice mixture of seeds there, my buddy is growing some thai seeds.I'm 29 years old so i can't say how weed was 40 years ago but like 17 years ago weed was fucking great i remember 1 particularly CONGO when i looked at it i thaught it was garbage but i'd say it was the best weed i smoked in my life, sometimes i wonder how i never came across it again IT WAS FUCKIN AWESOME! powerful energetic as hell it was.. have u ever tried it??
i don't know about today's CONGO but if i come across congo seeds i'll deff grow it.
take care buddy

I'd save the pollen if I were you. Might come in handy for a breeding project.

80 days?

Why has that thing been going that long? What strain is it? Looks like a lot of Sativa in it to my untrained eye.
