so if you live in the middle of nowhere, what do you do for fun etc? smoke weed and sit by the fire reading stories?

Smoke dope, fuck, eat good food, hang with those close to us, play/listen to music, draw, write, do artistic things, learn about the world around you and learn how to make it better.......the good stuff....the stuff we are here on this planet to do.

I think much of your feelings of depression and being lost stem from the fact that you have bought into a very artificial dream of what happiness is and how you are going to get it. Being rich with a cool car and tons of girls won't do it for ya, trust me.....it's a very hollow, shallow dream that will turn bitter and stale on you faster than you could imagine, if you do get there.

I know...I have seen it happen to many people I know.

Life is not a secret to be solved, nor a goal to be attained.....it is an experience to be LIVED.

Go out and LIVE, Yummy....please.

I'd rather live in a nice small city or town, not downtown or the big city but also not in tbe woods.

woods are great I think for vacation spots but not to live there year round.

the main reason to buy your own land etc is to replace the time you waste doing shit you dont want to do like working and school and prison with shit you want to do like sailing and video games.

I don't really want a huge mansion or anything just a nice looking medium size house in a quiet middle class neighbourhood I would just want a big garage so I can work on cars etc.

I think I would hate living in downtown or some big noisy city so I prefer small cities and towns that are still close to the big city and downtown.

I just spent half the past week in Alaska land shopping (serious land shopping). I flew to Anchorage, and took a bush-plane to 9 different locations/properties. I arranged this over the past cpl. months w/ a realator friend that lives in Eagle. I could easily choose 1 of the properties now, but will wait until early summer to check it out again after the spring thaw.

I wish I could post some pics but it's become more serious than "window shopping", and privacy and security a cpl. of the biggest reasons I'll be buying the property, even tho I wont be able to live there full time for a cpl. more years. (but it will be entirely paid off when I do move for good)

The spot I'm hooked on is on a lake, 15 miles or so from a road, and the property can be accessed by ATV trail in summer, snowmachine in winter, plane or boat. There is already 2 cabins, a giant greenhouse, a diesel generator, TONS of building materials, about 100 good traps, a small log mill and other woodworking tools, some solar panels but no system in place to use them, Enough house logs down and seasoned to build a nice sized log home much bigger than the smaller cabins. Theres a well for water, a sauna, a woodfired water heater, a smokehouse, a cpl. caches, A large workshop, a dog yard for sled dogs (no dogs tho ...LOL). The closest neighbor is 10 miles away on another lake. The property is just under 40 acres, and the asking price for all of it is under 50,000 USD. The previous owner homesteaded there in the 60's and died about 5 years ago while living there at the age of 88 of natural causes.

"yummy" some of the crap you spew out your mouth w/ out any knowledge is un-believable. Trust me you have a MUCH bigger chance of something going wrong...accident or not in a shitty city. People who die or get injured by accidents in the bush usually bring it on themselves....I'n the city you have the luxury of gettin fucked up by other peoples mistakes/stupidity. Wild animals rarely kill people who know their place in the wilderness, and who respect the wilderness, and the wildlife. If your an idiot in life your gonna be an idiot in life no-matter where you are.

True tho, the bush aint for everyone (THANK GOD)! But society isn't for everyone either...it sure aint for me.

Also it's NOT dark 6 months out of the year in any part of Alaska....even far far far north. Places VERY far north like Barrrow do get a big chunk of darkness in the dead of winter, but not 6 months of total darkness....just one of the many mis-conceptions peeps have about AK.

Living in Alaska is NOT like living in prison either...I dont even get where you could think that. It's actually the total opposite. Prison= NO freedom...the Bush=complete freedom. In the bush no one can tell you what you can and can't do...sure they can try, but ultimately your on your own. The bush is for people who are capeable of providing EVERYTHING that they need from their surroundings, people do it to different degrees, depending on their finances and desires. It's not about having the best car, the best house, the popular clothes, cool jewelery (diamonds in your teeth), etc....all the shit that makes people unhappy in the quest. FUCK THAT! (your a prime example yummy)

Also "yummy" where do you get that it's where criminals go to "hide out"? Alaska is a terrible place to "hide out" from the law. With a small population people are gonna know who you are no matter how much you try to hide. The more your in the middle of no-where the more you stand out. Big Cities are MUCH better places to be annonymous. There are lots of former criminals out there, but I doubt any higher percentage than your average city.

In Alaska people fly planes all the time, getting into a small plane in Alaska is as "normal" as getting into a car in the lower 48. Peeps venture into the bush for all kinds of activities (hunting, fishing, trapping, prospecting, sight seeing, photography, mountaineering, property shopping etc...) and there are always gonna be peeps that know the land and know who belongs there and who doesn't.

Sorry for the long rant, but it kind of irritates me when peeps spew out mis-conceptions about Alaska. I've spent LOTS of time in my life trying to explain Alaska to people and my desire to live in the bush for the rest of my life...it's a hard thing to explain to some people...I mean REALLY hard to get them to understand it.....but some people understand.

I was watching this documentary about criminals hiding out in the Alaskan bush. Also Alaska gets way too cold in the Winter it's basicly like living in Siberia.

I'd rather go down to California.

:yeahthats

I'll come visit ya Nokuy. I'll help ya put an acre or so under soybeans so you can extract the oil and make bio-diesel to run that generator. Sounds like a GREAT place.

so will you also buy a plane? how else would you get around especially in winter.

last time I checked planes are not cheap, so it would actually cost more than living in the city. plantes are like 400,000 or more for something decent and cost a lot to maintain.

Why did I have to click 'View Post'? I know better.

You can get a plane for about the same as a new car.

Nokuy, hit up www.aso.com if you're looking for a plane. A nice DeHavilland TurboBeaver Amphibian would be a good one for ya, but those are a little pricey, even older ones.

God, Yummy.........He's already there. Check out his name for Christ sakes :bat: As you will notice by him being online, they also have electricity there too!I am sure he will survive just fine. As for the planes, you know nothing. I know many people with old float planes etc. As for the criminals, there's some hiding in every city. Duh.

Geez man, one more dumbass comment and I'm gonna scream.

Nokuy, how big a generator does the place have? Can you get a 4-wheel drive vehicle in there for hauling food or supplies, or are you going to have to fly them in? Place sounds fantastic. Just what you have been looking for. Congrats!!!!!

Yuk said it was accessible by four wheelers in the spring, but like most of the boonies you'll need a snow machine to get supplies in. My only question is he says it's 15 miles from a road, how close to the nearest town? Either way the place sounds awesome, however I hope you have some experience with solar panels. Trying to keep those things from getting wrecked come hard snow fall will be pretty hard. However if you can manage, it would be worth it. Congrats on finding a nice plot of land.

yeah I def. wanna get a plane eventually. I took pvt. pilot classes off and on a few yrs ago, but have no flight time yet...that has to happen first. "Nitetiger" those turbobeavers are badass...I'll chek that site out next.

yummy i can get there on land or water, anytime of the year so plane is not mandatory.

"Pops" the generator is a pretty new northstar 6500 watt 10hp. Should be a good starter. I highly doubt that I'll be able to get my 4 wheel drive truck in there. From what I understand even the ATV ride in is tricky at best, and most everything there that was brought off-site came in the winter on sleds. Tho you could get a barge up the river to the lake if you pick a time when the river is high ...it's a big river, and peeps do go up and down it on jetboats.
Glad the river is on the otherside of the lake for that reason.

"Nseruame" town is a small town about another 20 miles from the road. and Los Anchorage is just a couple of hours drive. I dont have any specific experience w/ solar panels, but I have a feeling that they were never put to use for a reason.

"Yummy" you cant Say tha Alaska is cold like siberia...thats WAY too much of a generlization. There are parts of Alaska where it rarely even snows, and most of the coastal areas south of anchorage are fairly mild....wet, but mild. When I lived on Kodiak Island for 3 years it almost never snowed, one winter I remember less than 6 inches the entire year.....some brutal ass storms that would blow your mind, but not much snow. Same w/ Seward...I lived there a cpl years, and very little snow, but just 10 miles out of town is one of the most avalanche prone areas in the world. Yummy please do some more research on Alaska if your gonna post your mis-conceptions. Parts of the Interior get cold as fuck, but you just cant generalize things so much...you seriously dont have a clue bro.

A 35 mile trek or so isn't so bad. I've heard of people being 150 miles away from the nearest town, which to me would be a pain in the ass if you ran out of food...or more importantly papers.

Nokuy, it sounds like the generator is big enough to handle most of your needs, as long as you can get the fuel in. If it doesn't have a large tank for storage, you could barge one in and replenish it by boat and plane. How are the trapping laws there and what is the market for skins? I had a neighbor of my aunts who raised mink on the Oregon coast and fed them from fish he caught in the ocean. I used to catch Herring and sell them to him. Might be a good way to supplement income, rather that hitting the fishing boats in season. Less dangerous too, even though mink are mean little bastards.

I'm not sure of the "current" trapping law specifics are around there. I was told that the original homesteader was a trapper, and a market hunter and no one has woked his trap lines since he stopped 10 or more years ago. So I'd assume that they would be quite viable today. I'm sure the market for quality furs is always gonna be tremendous. (despite...or maybe inspite of what PETA wants)

I don't think that fur farms are legal in AK tho. (I bet they would be all over the place if they were)

Yummy....shut the fuck up. You know nothing that you speak of. Open mouth and insert foot. Quit watching TV.

Yukon is dead on. Ive been here for 20 yrs I will back up everything he said. Hey BTW....is that chunk of heaven out of the Deshka? I was looking at a similar plot of land last year.
A wood stove will get a man through the winter with more heat than he'll want and 2 moose will feed a man for a year.
Throw in all the berries, rhubarb pie, and salmon in the summer and thats how to live like a king.

10 miles from the road system is perfect.

Actually....i remember winters in kodiak where there was no snow too....the last few years in anch and south central snow has been scarce. But it hit with a vengence this year.

I kinda would like to keep this place free of idiots. So no....it sucks here....believe the yummyshcmuck about our siberian winters and all the other misconceptions.
