mriko, you have to realize that the U.S is a huge country and the West and Northwest has a lot of unsettled land. I saw one piece in Idaho that was 320 acres for $300,000. No water or electricity, sewer system only. A 120 acre horse farm, no building, but electricity is on site was $300,000. Those are near Salmon, Idaho in Lemhi County. Beautiful area, but cold as hell in the winter. Good hunting and fishing in the Lemhi and Salmon rivers. Idaho is my home state and I would love to go back. Just too fucking old to homestead now.

I know that there's still loads of empty space in the US, but doesn't change anything, it's really very very cheap !

I didn't put any from my country (france) easyrasta, because this kind of thing you're looking for would be rather around 700,000 - 1,000,000 $ here. Don't know about Spain...

Morocco is still extremly cheap compared to european standards, but prices are rising and rising, good deals will soon be all gone.

you can get 40 acres in Alaska for $40,000...a bit more if you want electric....also depends on how remote you wanna be.

You can find pretty good deals on land in $40,000 range in upstate NY. I have looked into it and many have easy access to electricity and some already have electrical hookups on a pole. Though a lot of the land is in the middle of no where as upstate NY is pretty big. The good part is that you can be hidden away from lots people but you probably will have only a 1-2 hour drive to a major suburban area. But you will have to deal with the communist controlled government of New York and its high taxes and shitty gun laws if your into that kind of thing.

As far as off the grid living goes what about a good diesel generator converted to run off fuel oil? From what I understand a diesel generator would handle it as long as the temperature of the fuel oil was not too cold. Wouldn’t this be the most reliable solution?

I scored 160 acers with power and a well for $40,000. It is only 1 property over from the Musselshell River. Its nearest town is 25 miles and its closed on Sunday. It sets in the Bull Mountains near Roundup, Montana.

Check www.mls.ca for Canadian listings.......Central and Northern BC, Manitoba and New Brunswick are crazy cheap......some parts of Nova Scotia too....

I have seen 250 acres with a 3 bedroom house and 2500 feet of oceanfront sell for under 150K in Nova Scotia
