250w HPS users....

I recently pulled a little over 5 zips from my 250w closet from 7 plants of Jack Herer all from seed. 5 in half gallons and 2 in 2 gallon.

I kept 2 phenos and started a perpetual grow schedule all from clones and am hoping to pull out 1 - 1 1/2 oz every two weeks starting at the end of the month! wooot! The oldest lady is Scrogged, the second is lightly LST'd, the third is a group of SOG testers, the fourth will go in next week and will be a second SOG test group.

I just took a bunch of pictures during lights on but I can't stand the black bars that my cell phone picks up so I'll take a couple of shots with my digital cam or after lights off tonight and post 'em up. Love my 250!

Hey everyone. I picked up a 250w the other day and can't wait to start growing. I have a few questions concerning heat. Here is my setup:

Cab dimensions are ~22x35x45"
Galaxy digital select-a-watt 150-175-250w ballast
Super Sun reflector 4in
Currently cooling with 120mm PC fans in this order
Fan->Hood->Fan->Duct->Exhaust fan. The fans are attached to the hood
Passive air intake

The hood is attached to the roof to minimize the distance the air has to be pushed through the ducting (~5in at close to a 45° angle).

I'm planning a three plant scrog in 5 gallon buckets. At the moment I'm running a 250w MH bulb at 175w giving me an average temp range of 75-80° at a distance of 10". I picked 10" because that is 8" above the 5 gallon buckets which is where the scrog screen will be attached.

At 250w, the temp range hovers around 85-88°F, sometimes climbing to the low 90's.

Now, I still need to get a small fan to place on the floor of the cab to help circulate the cooler air on the bottom. It may or may not help to much with temps, but it's still good to have it in there.

Also, my reflector has some weird components to it. The vent holes have ~.5-1" of open space before an interior piece of metal blocks the airflow in pursuit of more reflectivity. The fan attached to the hood used for intake doesn't have enough static pressure to push all the air around the piece of metal causing some air to be pushed back out. I imagine this air is warm and giving me these temp problems.

One thing about the temps is that it doesn't feel as warm as the thermometer reads. I can place the back of my hand against the glass when it's running at 250w and it feels warm to the touch at best.

So here are a few questions maybe you guys could help my out with:

1. Should i remove the intake fan on the hood?
-It doesn't have the pressure to push air in without having warm air escape back out
2. Will a passive intake work better with just two exhaust fans pulling air ~6in apart (Hood/Fan->duct->cab exhaust fan).

3. If I remove the intake fan, should I stack it on the cab exhaust fan for increased pressure or should I also mount it to the cab for a secondary exhaust that doesn't have to be pulled through the hood? If so will I need to double my intake for the extra exhaust? (already running ~2:1 intake to exhaust)

Thanks for you help

IMHO you need more CFM than your PC fans can pull. Low 90's is waaay hot, even if your supplementing co2. I suggest investing in a stronger fan. Even a little booster duct fan will work better than PC fans. They do have there place. Id use them to blow between your canopy and lamp. Where is your thermometer? Get accurate readings by putting it at canopy level. Allow it to come up to temp and dont open your cab until it does. Ive never been a fan of active intakes, unless Im pulling air from another independant room. With a stronger exhaust fan and well placed PC fans inside your box just above canopy level you shouldnt need the fan/hood/fan/duct/exhaust crap and simplify what youve got goin'. Happy growin with the 250w'er.

Gets some aluminum tape and just seal up the hood. The best way to cool it would be to draw air straight from out side the box and vent it out the other, like a cool tube. The more air that you can run over the bulb , the better. Good luck bro sounds like you have a good idea of what you want and what needs to happen to get it going.
Peace

Whats up 250W crew! Thought I'd jump in here as I've been growin with a 250 for about 3 months now after I upgraded from a 150. Now I use my 150 for autos and moms

Got my 250 digital from HidHut and so far so good. Cheapest prices I've seen for digitals. I mostly use 3g square pots and LST ATM but I plan to make my 250 tent a dedicated SOG tent w/1 gallon bags when I get my 400 in a few weeks. Have master kush and aurora indica from Nirvana veggin to provide the clones for now.

Jacks Classic nutes(dynamic duo) very cheap AND simple to use. Love em. Anyways heres the pics. This plant happens to be in 1.5g pot cuz I was cramped for space when I put her and her sisters in there. Had to chop @ 9 weeks with no amber cuz damnit, I needed the space :) Be back in a few weeks with more pics. Keep rockin yall :headbange

Sorry my cam sucks

This is bagseed BTW. One of the last few bagseed plants I will grow probably.

Well if n e one cares this is what happened on my last run.

5x Diamond OGs. When I transplanted them (skipped the mid stage which killed me) something in my extra soil mix shocked em, they went light green. 3 of em died. I nursed 2x back to health to prove i could. My yield is like 5 or 7 jars, not filled. Good bud, good to damn good, probably the best genetics I have ever used. Will post pics of the nug, they came out good, little bit of dry rot at the top cause I had the light to close but they were already sick and I got into something along the way that made me care less than I did.

Gonna do another run. Sup yall pics to come.

okay im running a 250hps and a 150hps. so 400w total. Is this enough light to penetrate canopys of plants about 2ft tall. I had 5 just found one was male so ive got four plants. Two SSH , One WW and one bagseed. You think 400 is enough in a 2.5ftx2.5ft space. What kind of numbers you think i should expect. i wAas just wondering. Maybe somebody can adress my thermometer ? here. Where is best place to get a true reading b/c since i put the 250 in with the 150 my readings have been crap b/c the direct light from the 250 is heating up the thermometer housing. This was when i had it a plant canopy level. when i go down to bucket level or above the lights i get good readings. Where best place to put my thermometer.

Wow this thread is still going. I've been running 2k for a year now and working on a 6k room.

I just upgraded from a 150 to a 250. See my thread here https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=20546

You want to keep it at least 5-6 inches from your plants (and at least a foot when they are little). You can still lst your plants for about 2 weeks while they are stretching for flowering, you want to keep the canopy fairly even.

Hairy_Guerilla, that looks yum!

I've been reading the 12/12 thread and am going to do the same. Did you run the MH for 3 weeks before switching to the HPS?

(I have a dual 250W ballast)

Thanks and enjoy!!
