Got a noob question for all you pro growers out there. My grow space is part of a closet measures 1'x4'x6'h. Now there are two shelves in it. One at 3' and one at 6'. Should I split it and make one my veg shelf and one my flower shelf? The width is the real determining factor here. I currently have 3 gallon pots and there's not enough room to put them side by side so I can only have them in a line.

Also, distance is hard to judge in these photos. I see some plants that look 3' or 4' tall and then some only 8" tall. What is the best distance for 250W? Now that i think about it I don't think I'll be able to do the split thing cause my cool tube is 6" in diameter. So remove a foot for the pot, 6" for the diameter of the cooltube and you're already looking at only 1.5'. This doesn't include space needed for the plants to not get burned.

Let me know what ya'll think.

You can get pretty close with a 250 CMH. I kept my Thunk under 22" (7-8 feet in the wild)

great job w/the 250's guyz!!
In your experience do the floweing times go any longer with a 250? If a breeder pack says 65 days and is based on a 600w will a plant need longer under the 250?

I'll be running HPS :(. Right now my closet stays a pretty good 75 degrees and using a chart I saw floating around here I'll be pulling plenty of CFM's through the cool tube to keep it around 80's or under. Gonna go with the full six foot closet. An oz usually lasts me 2-3 months so I'll be all good with 2-3 plants and have enough for a year :D.

I am looking into a 250 hps digital set up.

So far I have found Hidhut 250 digital hps with reflector and bulb $128.99

anybody know of anything better I should look at.

Thanks!

I went with the Lumatek digital ballast for noise and heat related issues. I had a little extra money to spend though so go with what you feel is a good light but just remember this is going to have to last you a while man. Try not to skimp on it. Or if you just want a light period there are lots of threads on here about turning a security light into a remote wired ballast :).

Yeah, I used cfl's before. Just got a decent cabinet to work with so was wanting to do a 250 with a diy cooltube. Been looking at HPS's for awhile, and decided Digital was the way to go for me. Just suprised to see a hole digital set up for the same price as for say just a Lumatek digital ballast. Maybe i will wait and save up and do the lumatek with a better bulb etc. THanks mang

whats up yall...cant believe this is my first time in here, but here I am!!!!I WAS running 2 250's in my closet, but one blew out on me, and noone here can fix it!!!anyhow, so Im runnin with a Hydrofarm 250 watt HPS, with built-in ballast...I love this lite, but it will be retired soon for a 400 or 600 w hps...time to upgrade...so Im runnin 6 girls under the lite right now..I got 2 in 1G growbags, 3 in 2 gal pots, and 1 in a 3G growbag...organic soil amended with lots of perlite...strains are Pollen Chuck, Mongrel & Crash Test...1-3-2, in that order...
Nutes are :
Liquid Karma
EJ Catalyst
Maxicrop seaweed
AN Mother Earth Super Tea, Grow & Bloom
Olivia's cloning solution for the bubbler....
Thats about it...Ive had 2 runs with the 250, first one was with 2 lites and 16 plants!!!
Im likin the light, but Im gonna end up usin it to startmy clones on 12/12 before they go under the 600 Im gonna get!!!anyhow, here they are around day 50...

they all got some serious LST treatment up until the stretch ended, thats why they so small!!!chunky as hell though and very frosty...gonna be a good pull..Im hopin for 1/2-3/4 oz. per plant, maybe a zip if Im lucky!!!Peace all, and enjoy...great thread...

Any of you have experience with 250 hps vs 400 hps? I've been running a 250 hps and I get a new bulb every 6 months or so. I've noticed that my buds are all sort of airy and stretchy. I grow 3-4 in a modular SCROG and the light is about 8-10 inches away. While they are Haze strains (from bagseed) I am wondering if I wouldn't have better luck with a 400...

I want to hang 2-250 s in a space under my workbench . dimensions are 55" wide, 18" deep, and 36" high. 6" Cool tubes with 6" 230cfm wishper fans(air would be blowing straight thru the box) Think i would have temp problems with this set up?????

4.5x3x1.5ft

I dont understand what you mean by air will be blowing straight through the box. Do you mean you will be drawing air through the cooltube?? If so, you still need an exhaust fan for your growing area or the air will be stagnant.

3ft of headroom is kinda low, this will give you about 2ft of headroom after you taken into consideration the cooltube and spacing as not to burn the tops.

Sounds like it should be ok as long as you have enough cfm's exhausting.

Using all 4 methods above in concert, except double ducting, my Elicent (5-10 dB quieter than the Vortex) was still audible from the back of my garage to my neighbor's door across the street. With quadruple silencing, closing the doors to the garage contained the sound therein.

Only one person locally knows about my grow and he was the only one allowed in the garage at that time. It took him less than 10 seconds to scrunch his face and ask what the hell the noise was.

Wow, I'm really surprised you had so many issues with fan noise. Was this fan not enclosed in a cab?

I'm planning on using the CanFan 6" (regular, not the high output) rated at 270 CFM, pulling through a CanFan33 filter, and out a duct muffler if need be (though I'm going to try and not use the muffler to begin with). This will all be enclosed in the utility room of my NGB style cab and if need be I will foam line/Duramat the inside of the utility room. Do you think this will be sufficient to kill the noise for the most part?

Kudos to the 250 club!

Kudos to the 250 club!

I just got through the entire thread and I must say that I am duly impressed. I was already planning on going with a 250w HPS for my first medical grow, but now that decision has been solidified after reading through this thread and seeing all of your very successful grows!

My lady and I are building a modified NGB-style cab with the following rooms:

Veg/clone/mom chamber lit with a 125w CFL in a batwing reflector

Flower chamber lit by a 250w Hortilux in a SunSystem 2 air cooled reflector attached to a remote digital Galaxy ballast

Utility room that will house the ballast, 270cfm inline pulling through a CanFan33 carbon filter and pushing out a duct muffler (plus other odds and ends like power strips and timers, etc.).

I will be posting my cab build and grow journal as soon as I get it going. Can't wait after seeing what you all have done!
