205w LED vs 400w HID Let the battle begin!

Would be nice but nope I am not gonna postpone this grow for 20 more days and spend another 150$ on soil to start over again!

How about mixing things up then and switching 2 pots from one side to the other from both cabinets?

That would show the difference in growth with the plans moved from the "crap light side" to the LED side and vice versa.

Just an idea.

edit: That would add to the objective nature of this test, which was lost due to human error.

I would not say it was lost, I'm just gonna play it out how it is, Yeah the bulb was older and obviously it has to be the reason for the hid side being behind but lets let it play out and see how it turns out, I think if push comes to shove I'll just do a second run.

Switching the plants around creates uneven canopies and I dont want that, I try to keep them even as possible, May not look to even currently but in time you will see.

Hell this early in a grow I dont suppose the old light will change the end product that much now that it has been replaced.lol it happens right. I will deff keep an eye on this one. I have been curious about the bang for the buck with leds, ive always been an hid guy, but wanted to see a head to head comparison. Thanx for this.

Would you have considered buying the leds if they had not been provided. I can see many advantages to the leds in cramped spaces, but they are a little high(no pun intended).

And personaly I could care less if this isnt a Scientific controlled environment, Im sure it will give a closer than ballpark comparison. I kinda apreciate the relative simplicity of the test cause if I had tried to do this it wouldnt be perfect either, so its kinda closer to what I want to knowin some ways. In the end slip ups can make all the diff.

Cant wait to see more progress and pics, keep it up man.

Yeah its exactly 4 rounds of 12/12 with 4 crops 70 days per crop. So 280 TO 300 days of 12/12. Really dont matter now that its been replaced.

Only reason I was asking was that LED manufactures tout that you don't have to replace the lights like you do with bulbs to maintain efficiency and I found it interesting how much a difference was made with a year old bulb already in veg.

I know it won't make an overall difference now that the new bulb has been put in. just interesting to see what it may be like if you don't replace bulbs every so many grows.

wow I opened up here again and find new info=> I didnt know that a bulb that has been used for only a year would have so much difference to the out come ( I only change bulbs that burn out totally in a warehouse setting at the owners request) note to self only use mh bulbs how long ? and hps how long ? If you could help with the answer for my notepad. I would be happy and thank you for the info in advance.

As for bulb changes I believe it goes as follows once a mh or hps has reached the halfway point in its rated hours of life before it starts to loose output. So if your bulb has a life of 12,000 hours change it after 6000. I could be wrong but this is what I was told to do from an experienced grower friend but he does grow for profit where I will be growing for medicine so he may have told me to do this to make sure my budds are as potent as possible , he has told me he likes to squeeze every cent out of his investment to make the most of his profit.

hey Blaze you probably know better than me but i wouldnt say the bulb was that old - my rule of thumb has always been about a year on 12/12 so it was getting towards the end of it's life but by no means ancient or anything...

or am i just a tightwad :D

Even with the old bulb in the MH, this grow still gives more validity to how far LEDs have come.

Taking the MH out of the equation completely, I'm impressed by what I'm seeing on the LED side of things. The tech is obviously sound, and applicable. Simply, it is indeed performing strongly.

With Blaze's experience taken into account, his estimation of the the effects of having an old bulb in there should not be discounted. With that, he said he felt the LEDs lead wouldn't be quite so dramatic, which means they are, at the very least, performing competitively with the 400.

That's saying a lot, in my opinion.

im my mind i instantly think vertical circual growth and perhaps a few rows(stadium) if need be, from there i think what light could i use , its always hids. my point being that theese ufos dont do circular style grows at all, its not possible yet, so id say the 200 is nowhere near a 400 run vertical of which id expect over a pound from, its more in line with a 150 hps/175 mh imo.
