I found many years ago when hiring tradespeople that if someone was a braggart about skills or status, notwithstanding sarcasm or parody, or merely reporting on actual experience, that they probably lacked the attributes they were claiming, or they wouldn't need to brag or boast, and word of mouth is often the greatest sales advertisement, not self-generated claims of grandiosity.

Bragging is often a sign of a weak ego, inflated externally to compensate, but often failing in its attempts.

Since then, I rarely or never hire anyone with 'best' or 'premier' etc., either in their verbiage or company names, business cards, advertisements, etc.. It's since saved me tens of thousands of dollars.

When I witness someone overtly boasting about how smart they are, in serious terms, with limited to no self-awareness or expressed humility, I often shake my head and walk away.

Today must've been special.

Well then that's one thing off my mind.

I'm going to hang my head in shame until I can't anymore.

You know some people call me the humblest person they know... some people say that...

But you know...

Hannibal Lecter doesn't fish for sharks on his electric boat, so Pocahontas Sleepy Slopadopalous can covfefe stand back and stand by.

So I'm probably the humblest, but you know... they don't want me saying that...

They say "we know, but don't let them know" you know?

you could slip this in DT's next speech and no one would notice, all reason is gone and only angry raw emotion remains
I believe this latest series of exchanges began with a knee-jerk attack on buzz over a completely and bizarrely misinterpreted post wherein buzz had been contrasting 538's accuracy in their predictions in 2016 versus 2024.

There was no raw emotion in that post of mine, nor was there any inaccuracy. In fact, I strongly suspect buzz will be back tomorrow to correct the rather bizarre reaction he was given, by a member who seems entirely unable to synergize information or deal with anything remotely abstract but overtly tells us how smart he is.

Please read back and correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks.

I was just referencing Trump there, and the general electorate, may have been a sharp left(or right) turn

I've noted that those who have little or nothing factual or pertinent to offer in the way of information and are seemingly preoccupied with grinding axes over past commentary relative to their fake presentations of self online, frequently resort to nipping at heels and relying on strawman posturing and exaggerations which they apparently confuse with some form of effective discourse or rebuttal.

Those people often have issues that only they can help themselves with, though their chronic deflections and lack of ability to apply real self-analysis to themsevles will likely prevent this..

Children will be children, I guess. But other than for other children, it rarely impresses others.

I come to the thread(in part) to marvel at this election where there are substantial undecideds out there
best I can tell it's not hugely small, kind of like previous ones
that's maybe the only ordinary aspect to it

And it's 'you're'.

You're welcome. But I know you're smart enough to already know that, because you already told us how smart you are... speaking of arrogance and ego.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm an arrogant individual. I don't have a problem with it. It's better to be arrogant and authoritative than to let people push you around.

When being arrogant is coupled with inaccuracies or presumptuously incorrect data and inaccurately perceived helplessness or futility, it often becomes something much more.

But I'll accept your admission.

There's the presence of a lot of what looks like 'learned helplessness' expressed by some as accepted futility or hopelessness, without there being the track record of efforts to support that synopsis of futility, or past real efforts to change anything serious.

Not to mention judgements of addicts and others where the ability of such people to change or improve life is variable among them but is dismissed by others/you without a second thought, as though they're mere rubbish..

I put in my time for decades, most of 50 years, doing activism and organizing, even when I had commercial crops going, and watched my tail closely, rarely deluding myself to quell the nerves about why I was OK when I knew I might not be, and dotting my i's, crossing my t's, etc. to make sure my family didn't lose their home, father, mother, money, and more.

There are people who've done nothing wrong to anyone who are dying this minute, or going hungry, or getting busted for lengthy periods of time because the drug in their pocket was the hot-button tabloid target of the day.

All of those people are relying on some hopefulness and sense of justice and equity and hoping those in the countries or states or cities subjecting them to these inequities and injustices find the courage and MAKE the power to force that change for the better. And history tells us no matter how big the beast, it CAN indeed change when forced to. The rest is either timing, energy input, or excuse making.

I know why I spent my life as a warrior and had diminished choices because it was engrained in me very early on by experiences that I won't spell out right now. Too many, too long, too personal, and too graphic.

Put that judgement aside and find a warrior in you that needs awakened to the correct causes. Your nation will not get better unless you and others can do that.

There are people who will rely on you to make this place better from their perspective, which might not always be your perspective, and if not you, then others might be relied on, and the people in need are literally starving or dying or enduring other inequities, some of them unspeakable, today because of biases and inactions or actions, and sometimes/often acceptance of the status quo.... often due to perceived hopelessness and futility.

And supporting the same old same old, kicking the can down the road due to learned (inaccurately perceived) helplessness and futility will not do anything but permit more of them to continue on in their hells.

That's all I've got to say at the moment. Other than thank you for your honesty in your last post.

538 forecast from 2016:

538 forecast for 2024:

There is no comparison between shillary and Harris. People don't hate Harris and trump is now a known entity and people don't like what they've seen. He's an old man losing his marbles on the world stage.

I'm surprised you would even make the comparison to the clinton campaign.
Hillary lost in 2016 in spite of the polls. It was a sure thing that she was going to win. Trump couldn't win. Another sure thing in 2016.

Now in 2024 "People don't hate Harris and trump is now a known entity and people don't like what they've seen." In spite of that claim the same 538 forecast shows a toss up with the edge in Trump's favor. Kamala has all the good brains running her campaign now and stars galore lining up to endorse and campaign for her. There is no comparison to the Clinton campaign, @xtsho. The old man losing his man losing his marbles on the stage cannot win as Hillary could not lose.

People do hate Harris and people will vote for the old man losing his marbles regardless of the Joyful Harris Campaign. Blue echo chambers are as delusional as the Red ones.

I thought the two polls eight years apart were interesting. I have always voted on Election Day. My polling station is two miles away. "We shall see", said the blind man.

I am curious to know if you have served in the military, @xtsho.
