MedMaker420 - I just subscribed to your YouTube channel and have read through some of your posts. I'm suffering from some information overload though and wonder if you wouldn't mind summarizing. It sounds like you've used LEDs for many years, what's your bottom line conclusion? And are these systems you describe something you make and market?

MedMaker420 - I just subscribed to your YouTube channel and have read through some of your posts. I'm suffering from some information overload though and wonder if you wouldn't mind summarizing. It sounds like you've used LEDs for many years, what's your bottom line conclusion? And are these systems you describe something you make and market?

I have been researching leds for years but only growing with LEDs for a few months. I don't market or sell any of these panels ( these are growblu panels ) and if you saw my previous thread you know that they were trying out different manufacturers and spectrum testing and I was helping with that effort specifically with mmj growing.
attachment.php

As far as leds in general, I am loving growing with them especially when I look at my electricity bill each month. I do have more dialing in to do under the leds though. I have had years of trial and error growing under hps/mh bulbs and believe that leds are a whole different ball of wax when it comes to nutrient uptake specific to temps and spectrum choices.
attachment.php

I think an average growers grams per watt will be higher under leds compared to hps once dialed in. I don't know what sort of benefits a large cash cropper would have running leds besides saving a TON of their e-bill. With big grows, mag 1k setups are just super cheap to produce HUGE WEIGHT and the initial investment for a large grow with led panels would be fuckin CRAZY.
attachment.php

Now you could then add up the savings on the e-bill but I know once you get to LARGE GROWS temps will be up with that amount of wattage so a/c units would be needed but odds are be able to be ran much less than an hps setup.
attachment.php

I think where leds win is in the 2x4, 4x4 and 4x8 tents. You can get yourself an elbow of meds using less than 400 running watts with the right genetics ( 8 plants x 2 ounces each ) and environment. I am awaiting my next harvest of 10 girls under my white growblu panel.
attachment.php

I have another batch about to go under that same panel but they will be in 3 gallon grow bags so I can't wait to see what the extra gallon of "root space" will offer the girls.

I don't think I "summarized" because this post feels LONG lol.

Enjoying the show medmaker! Noticed there are no names on the last set of pics? Care to share the names of the strains posted? Im glad your enjoying the Casey's Cuz x SourD IBL! ;) They can definitely produce some long heavy colas as you may have already noticed. Looks like those LEDS and/or the genetics used are sportin' some very frosty fan leaves. Looks like you'll be ready to whip up some Hash after this harvest as well.

In those last pics were the jackpot royale and jedi kush finishing girls under the white panel. In the vertical side most of them over there are Casey's Cousin x Sour Diesel IBL and one or two white rhinos and cheesedogs. I have a video in the works specifically about your CCxSD IBL and will make sure to get pics with strain names and/or labels so you can see the different phenotypes that I am currently testing out.

Overall the girls are getting huge, I might have to start looking UP at them and trust me I totally agree that the buds are odds are going to be pretty damn long from what I am seeing so far.

I am trying not to touch them but I will get some of the flavors and characteristics and get that vid and pics/text posted here as well as on my yt channel.

EDIT

had to get a shot of the CASEYS COUSIN X SOUR DIESEL IBL since I went in tonight to water. They are the biggest girls I have and I see a strong sativa influence which has me stoked.

I can't wait to see how they pack on the pounds!

any estimates on finishing times or certain phenos to be on the look out for?

Thank you and yes I am diggin that Poison Genetics is in the led grow show for sure!

Patiently awaiting my keeper pheno selection after they grow out / smoke out :woohoo:

GENERAL UPDATES

I am diggin the vertical led grow, alot less work on that side since you don't have to stress on canopies being even all the time. When plants grow overnight, training becomes a daily choir and I remember what it was I loved so much about vertical when I ran my light mover/stadium vert runs with a few 1k hps digis ( lumis, quantums and digi greenhouses ).

attachment.php

I will continue to give the finishing girls fresh water until they finish their swell and get the chop. The nugs are looking dense but waiting for the white hairs to stop pushing and don't want to chop before the girls are done as that only reduces the end yield. I know sometimes you can't wait due to certain reasons like having to go out of town, some apartment inspection etc BUT if possible, let the girls finish ladies and gents it really will be worth the wait.

On the solar side of things, I was first thinking of some diy panels but to be honest just like led panels I like to just buy shit that is already built and if it goes wrong I can complain to someone besides myself lol.

I am looking into mono panels ( better types ) and will be running 200ah batteries but still undetermined how many I want to run. On my controller, I think I will stick with a hybrid option so I can add wind to the system later as well so I will be getting a solar/wind controller versus just a solar version.

attachment.php

I wonder what led systems would be like running on a 12v system though compared to the 110/120, anyone have any thoughts on that? No need for an inverter etc and can keep it on the 12v along with everything else solar/wind can charge up.

Anyone else running vertical led panels or have a led grow that they want to toss a pic or two in here to share? By all means do so, I know there are plenty of grows now online whether here, other forums or youtube and sometimes it is hard to keep up with everyone.

very cool, and i understand not stressing over height restrictions.

on the subject of 12V Leds, that would be a subject that would be very interesting to me. i have a buddy who runs a 12V DC cabin. he has an inverter, but if LEDS were available and powerful enough to run on 12V DC i am gonna set him up with a little grow area :woohoo:

maybe we need a thread on 12V DC LEDs and solar power. that setup would be fucking awesome...

love what you are doing with the vert setup :tiphat:

you sir, are pushing the boundaries and making us all proud...

I think a thread in the led section would be perfect once anyone gets a 12v system or the thoughts behind it put in place. I will only give it a shot on my end once I get my solar panel/bank here so I can start ironing out the running wattage.

I think that an off grid flower setup is more beneficial than a 18/6 or 24/0 veg cycle unless using much smaller led panels while in veg.

Your buddy with the cabin sounds like he has a great setup. Offgrid and looking into growing as well. I think indoor led with solar/wind no matter the weather conditions outside would ROCK IT especially on the flower side and only needing 12 hours of juice daily.

I will keep an eye out for off grid led veggie growers because they might exist somewhere online. There are not too many led marijuana growers let alone anyone trying anything outside the box or off the grid from what I can find online.

GENERAL UPDATES:

[YOUTUBEIF]vOMILPpnyN0[/YOUTUBEIF]

I topped some of the girls that are in veg so I will have more bud sites on this next batch. Still undecided as to which panel I will put them under or if they will go vertical as well ( vert or hori is still something I am battling in my head as far as efficiency goes ) but the best part of perpetual growing is being able to roll with the punches and if you see a hole you fill it with a plant  ( many holes need fillin )

attachment.php

Waiting for the growblu white panel to finish up, the buds look tasty as hell and can't wait for the yield results for that panel especially when using my "tosser phenos" ( those that didn't get to stay in my mama tent to cut clones from ) but man even these so called non keepers that I ran, they look crystally, tasty and stinky.

Just got to see what the grams per plant was, now if this panel finishes within the next few days I will put my next batch under the white growblu panel else they will be going under one of the blu panels that I have already in the 4x8 waiting for plants to be tossed under her.

In the vert side it is pretty much Casey's Cousin x Sour Diesel and one or two cheesedog/white rhino with the aardvarks mix almost done ( they are the further along plants in vert side ).

I have some kushy haze and lady berry kush about to go into flower. I will have some in the vert side odds are as I too want to see how big they will grow.

The kushy haze structure would be perfect for vert thats for sure. Great genetics and POTENT :woohoo:

just got done tending to my girls and had a couple pics taken, now I always take a hundred or so pics but with icmag I can only toss up 5 per post so I usually make a "pic video" as well so people can see more pics without me having to make 10+ posts and get booted for self bumpin my thread here lol.

LEDs are doing great, the vert side seems to be doing totally fine and the white panel will soon be done ( hurry and finish jedi kush and jackpot royales!!!! ).

attachment.php

I am putting in a fresh batch of girls under the blue panel and will be keeping them in 2 gallon pots. I was going to up pot them into 3 gallons but I just don't see the need for the 3 gallons in a horizontal setup with just a single panel with those strains as they tend to grow very short and do not really stretch much.

I have been playing with bottom feeding the girls by filling up the drip tray under the grow bags and then refilling it a couple times until it all seeps up into the root system.

It seems to keep all bugs to next to nothing ( allows a dry layer on the top of the soil mix in each pot ) and being a soil mix it is fine with the bottom feed versus a coco based mix which has always caused me issues when I tried bottom feeding them.

attachment.php

Once the pic/vid is done I will post it in this post but hope you dig the pictures from tonight.

attachment.php

As you can see these vert girls are TALL and loving the leds. I think if there were panels on all four corners it would be killer but I think having 4 panels that were the same wattage of the two I currently have in the veg side to make more sense versus having 4 panels of the current wattage. I see that being overkill to say the least.

600-800 watts of leds in a vertical 4x4x7 area has a TON of possibilities for the grower who can maximize the area. No need to deal with canopy management and having a lower grow tent temp overall due to the panels being side drafted versus top down vented.

attachment.php

I can't wait to see other growers test out some vert options with led panels here in 2013. If anyone is working on it now, feel free to toss up a pic or two to share with others if wanted.

DAYUM !!!!!

you are killing it MM !!!

rock on dude :tiphat:

The lights and the genetics are killin it, i'm just along for the ride brother but thank you for the kind words :comfort: they are always welcomed.

As a grower, it is a lifelong learning experience and every day I work with my girls I feel as if I just got started growing. I am in awe of my plants and how amazing cannabis plants look and respond when they grow. I wish I could just sit in there and watch them grow all damn day sometimes.

Someday I hope to take everything outdoors and see what that big ol ballast in the sky can do for me and my babies.

Sending a TON of positive growers karma your way brother!

I just hacked the girls under the white growblu panel and have them hanging in my "drying tent" which is a 2x4x5 foot tent with my custom rigged up hanging system LOL ( let me find a pic of the "system"

attachment.php

(this is when my hanging bar was between the two 4x4 grow areas in one of my 4x8 tents. It is now in a dark 2x4 tent as norml ).

I decided to switch things up on the fly last night and tossed a TON of girls that I had in veg into my flower cab under the white led panel. I want to get some seeds from a few of these strains so I will be getting some dusted in flower and if all goes well should have plenty of viable seeds to gift as freebies for the bay and bou and the rest to store for future pheno hunting ( my favorite thing in the world to do I think ).

I will be getting the trimmin started today as I was too tired last night and my back was saying FUCK YOU to me a bit too much last night lol. Anyone else sick and tired of shitty backs or is it just me?

Anyways I will have new videos and pics up and get some more progress reports posted.

hope everyones day is growin well for them
:woohoo:

Here is just a pic vid with a fun slant on it

I have had some negative comments SO I thought I would give people the place to vent their "LED HATE"

[YOUTUBEIF]q09-SjqOEPI[/YOUTUBEIF]

I have some pics that I will get posted up as the Casey's Cousin x Sour Diesel IBL from Poison Genetics is PACKIN ON THE WEIGHT! I have some new LBK going into flower that I will odds are toss in the vert side but might just get another tent going.

I will get new pics of the girls AND boys that will be used in my pollen chuckin. I am running 2 cheesedog males btw ( pics of the studs to follow ). This will be separate of the LED VERT GROW as I will be getting the pollen and then cull the males and using a dusting method to up my seed count production.

I have my keeper phenos of jackpot royale and aardvarks mix that I have loved the most so far that I am focusing on dusting but will try and get a few seeds from most genetics that I am running to store for future testing and pheno hunting.

Not really sure if I am out to prove anything to anyone to be honest but I agree LEDs of today are NOT what they used to be.

I think those who have had bad experiences with LEDs in the past should give it another shot. Now there are plenty of different led companies to try out and many have a warranty of some sort including some with money back guarantees SO I say give it a shot with the latest led technology and then make another informed decision on them.

I like hps, I just don't like growing and tending to my plants while they are on. It bugs me so I enjoy having options. There are plenty of other perks to growing with leds that I have noticed and one BIG ONE being my e-bill being a ton less.

The thing I still find funny though is that I am just having a blast testing different panels out and not trying to prove that leds can beat hps yield wise ( even if that seems to be the case with most grows I have seen lately on average ).

I would just love some of the growers I see here and on youtube who can grow CRAZY LARGE YIELDS with their dialed in hps rig to at least TRY OUT a panel or two and see how they compare.

My thought also is that many of the larger growers with rep from their various hps grow shows could end up getting a free panel in exchange for their trying the light out. Many options do exist for the grower who tried leds in the past but didn't like their results.

I still remember those 1 watt days and while there was plenty of hype, the yields were not there. I see the yields being there in 2013 and can't wait to see those with killer clones especially those with hydro setups to really prove out a led panel or two from any of the current manufacturers and website retailers.

There is also a company who advertisers right here on icmag that I haven't seen a grow done using their panels yet. Anyone have any word on them and that 25 watter?

I have an article I wrote up a month or so ago about being able to use 25 watts per sqft with leds versus 50 watts per sqft with hps. I wonder if this company had the 25psqft in mind when putting that panel together and if not what sort of canopy coverage could be covered with 25 watts ( is this running watts or listed? )

edit... I just reread the site and their panels are 23 watts. Does anyone have a live pic of this panel?

I keep seeing that banner but haven't spotted a grow yet and seeing if anyone is doing a grow with one yet?

In a few days I will get the totals on the white panels yield. I wet trimmed them this time and they are happily drying then into a big old cardboard box and then into jars when ready.

I might be doing a full dry sift run from all of this panel but still undecided. I personally don't care for buds when the option is there to enjoy nothing but concentrates. Less smoke in my lungs and does a REAL GOOD JOB on my back versus a couple bowls to get it nice and numb ( livable ).

I hope everyone had a great February and hope your grow is going great!
