i just added a mountain air carbon filter into my grow cab, and all i have to say is WOW WOW WOW!

my DIY scrubber unfortunately wasn't doing the job good enough, and the smell of dank was slowly building up in my apartment. after waiting and waiting for my ozone generator to arrive (45 days now) i gave up and went and picked up a mountain air filter because i heard they were the best, installed and now the smell is COMPLETELY gone! i put my face up to the exhaust vent and even with the air blowing straight into my face fresh out of the cab, i cannot smell anything but fresh warm air... so happy!

it takes up a buttload of room in the cab, but i can't install it outside of the cab because of stealth reasons, so i had to readjust everything inside to make it all snug. will take a few pics of the filter and the current setup a bit later

also i sent my busted LED back to the seller and he is going to replace it with a new unit, hopefully itll arrive in a couple weeks and actually work this time, heres to hopin! in the meantime i'm going to save save and save and buy a bigger and better LED, still undecided but i guess the longer the wait the better (more time for reading!)

Happy New Year and best of luck that these small mishaps are just getting all the bad mojo out early for 2011.

I just germinated some seeds... got some Onyx to try as well as a few oddballs. Starting seeds for a brother who couldn't order them for security purposes. Glad to have seen tails at 24hrs underwater...and now 24 later I see the first one peeping! So at least I didn't blow it with my friends cash and beans. hehehe

Im going to look up that filter myself... Ive had to go to a smaller system and have a LED and t5 combo. Using the mother keeper tent from HTG. Pretty sweet with some plastic gro bags... going to put the Onyx in 2 gall bags.

PPPPretty nice work getting the LED replaced dude. Glad you didn't have to sink that capitol into a new one. Every pro hydro store around me talks mad crap about LEDs, but they are fucking every customer with whatever they make the most mark up on... for example some name brand X private label chem grow and bloom crrrap! In the long run the cost is nothing if you can get better lumen crank per watt with a slightly more expensive LED. The only thing I wish I could try was a digital 250 hps which might be as silent... but then again I wonder about a lot of things.

So,,, whats your grow mix I see in the cups??

Are you flushing with water? the LR#3 particularly looks like its been feed ALOT of nutes, not a bad burn,,but that looks like my stuff and I too have been trying to get some legs on these AFs with a lite extra dose of ferts. After my last flush they jumped up in size a little

hey skullz happy new year to you too! Thanks again for the kind words! Pretty awesome of you to help out a friend in need; your little set up sounds sweet!

The plants are started out in in a mix of perlite, worm castings, mushroom compost, biochar, coco coir, some seedling mix and sand. Then i transplant them into the same mix cooked for a few weeks with blood meal, bone meal, dlime, fish emulsion, seaweed and EM1 for flowering. They all get fed every week with some dilute airated tea made with small amounts of brown sugar, EC, EM1, dirty aquarium water, seaweed, and a mix of spirulina, green barley and kelp powder that i have laying around. And no i haven't flushed the soil yet. The damage is from a earlier K def i'm pretty sure, it happened over NY and i came back to a lot of crispy leaf edges. I fed them with a little fish and the damage seems to have ceased.

Do you think i should start flushing? I just fed them earlier today with some tea

I'm psyced to get my replacement LED and am saving atm to buy better one, and when i do i will set up a little boy cab with the UFO so i can harvest pollen for seeds far far away from the ladies!

And if your on the market for a new filter i can definitly recommend the mountain air! its been HOT HOT HOT the past few days (over 32 celcius in the house!) and the cab is even hotter! The girls seem to be taking it well (it will cool down tomorrow night thank god) and when i open the door the stink is outrageous! Still the air coming out of the exhaust is completely smell free! I am sooo relieved

oh yeah i have been meaning to update but i spilt water all over my laptop and it's been drying and i am going to turn it on tomorrow and pray it still works... this lappy doesn't have a memory card slot reader so i can't upload any pics, and also my grow log spreadsheet is the other laptop... if it's gone I'm going to be so sad, it had daily records of the grow and any useful stuff i've found so far... fingers crossed it survived

Not the best start but hey it can only get better from here!

hey Dude,,,about to go skiing. Not too much time. Your soil and fertilizer mixes are really sophisticated, and sound damn good. I would say you aren't experiencing any deficiency from what you are using. That is one of the most well rounded lists i have ever heard. If you haven't flushed at least once I recommend... standard wisdom near the end of budding anyways. But once again your mixes sound fantastic...with the fert haevy elements in your soil (blood, bone, fish) and then kelp powder you have what sounds like a water only soil. I don't do water only, but I've seen good results before...really rich soil and then the whole plant life feed H2o only. If anything I would say you are giving them too much good food. I bet if you weren't using such biofriendly organic style stuff you would have had some stunting or burning. Less is more, thats a good mantra for plant food in general. Especially when you are using good (great) soil ingredients.

My friend who is a commercial grower grows the biggest, stickiest, buds in plain promix with a common brand name 2 part liquid grow and bloom fert combo. Of course thats not for the head... but it always serves to remind me I don't have to be a genius... just a friend.

I've seen that Mountain air can before in Hightimes. It looks really nice. I wonder, is it more quiet since it is so bulking and solid. I want to hook up my blower and filter, but they are so loud!!

about the noise, in my current config i have the filter first, then fan then a very short length of noise reducing duct running to outside of cab. Before i got the filter, it was fan + duct + diy filter and the cab was loud, sounded like an air conditioner!!

now with the mountain air on the start, the noise has drowned out a lot; its now a quiet hum and i can cover the noise really easily with a bubbling tea, whereas before the bubbles wouldn't mask nothing. I think having something covering both ends of the fan really made a difference... i'm not sure if it would still be quiet if i had the filter on the other end.

My best idea at the moment involves making an inline fan out of 4 pc fans run back to back to back. I will make a simple square cardboard "tube" with the 4 fans in it, and then run duct to me 6" carbon filter. I have a rather cheap carbon filter, but it does a great job, and is more then adequate for the space I have. My only worry is that the 4 fans won't push the air with enough pressure to create a negative pressure inside the tent to keep air circulating in only one direction. I have the fans and have hooked them up to a 5v power adapter to test and they work fine, just not really blowing hard. The positive is that the fans are no louder then the fan on my led... which is acceptable.

hey i have pics but unfotunately no way to upload them atm cos i spilt water all over my good laptop which has the card reader and this one doesn't i will see if i can find the cord that came with the camera (moved house not long ago and i have no idea where it is, or if i still have it lol)

things are looking good girls are putting on lots of weight, i plan on flushing as soon as the soil drys out, prob in a day or 2! The WR have exploded a bit in growth the past week which is awesome, theyre as big as the LR2 now but im a bit worried cos WR1 is still not showing sex im starting to wonder if i got sent non auto beans... i will wait another 2 weeks and if she's still not sexing, then i will flip to 12/12. But yeah WR1 has gotten bushy as hell, i think she (it was a fem bean it better be a she!) will be a nice big girl when she grows up

also the ozone gen finally arrived today, as well as some molassas i found online, cant wait to brew up my first batch of molassas tea! i think i will use it to flush

btw i love ur idea about the fan inside a box, if you used egg cartons on the inside i think it would make it even more silent, or if u get some of that egg carton foam stuff! i wish my cab was a bit bigger now (b4 i thought it was a bit big!) so i could put my duct/fan inside a nice big soundproofed box!

maybe in a couple years i will upgrade a girl can dream!

LR2 Day 50

YAY i found the cord for my camera so i don't need a card reader, here are some updated pics FINALLY! I got excited and took a buttload

Here it is day 50

LR2 #1 - Still the same height as before but definitly fatter! I'm waiting on a microscope to have a closer look at the tric's, but using the zoom on the digi it looks like about 10~20% amber. I plan on waiting to minimum 60% amber cos i hope to be couch locked to death!!



LR2 #2 - Top cola looks kinda skinny... has filled out a little but i hope it does more filling! Bottom of plant has grown a lot, what looked to be a single cola plant now has a few lower buds that are getting bigger, biggest around 3cms long and 1cm wide atm. There doesn't seem to be much amber tric action going on here.



LR2 #3 - Lots of heat stress from 2 days of extreme hot weather (33 degrees C), cab got to over 34C! She seems to be filling out the best and doesn't seemed to of cared too much about the heat, she is still putting on weight faster than #2 IMHO. Tric's like #2 are still non amber.

WR1 @ 36 days - Still no sex from what i can tell, but i am known for being blind as a bat so... Lots of new growth and is bushing out nicely. Got a little heat damage from the hot weather but is still going strong, you go girlfriend!



WR2 @ 22 days - Lots of new growth and is very happy in her 1L bottle. I was planning on transplanting her again to a bigger home, but will wait awhile because it will be hard to give her proper light in a bigger pot cos of spacing issues. God i can't wait till i can have a working LED again.


oh and here are some updated pics of the current cab layout, i've also added a DIY Co2 bottle which is just yeast and sugar.



and just for fun here is my DIY smoke catcher for when i'm smoking in my apartment, just a coke bottle filled with activated carbon that i'm no longer using since i'm no longer using my own DIY filter. Catches the smell quite well so no more room filled with smoke for me!

i was looking closely at the buds today and noticed a LOT of new light green growth on the buds! i haven't seen bud growth that noticable at all during growth, but they seem to be packing it on now late into flower. It seems to have happened after i started to flush (aquarium water and molassas) like skullz suggested that i do, and he also said that they would pack on a bit of growth when i flushed as well .

It's the first time they have had molassas so i dont know if its the sugar or the flushing, but either way they're pretty happy today! Thanks for the awesome tip skullz i owe ya one!

the temps are still high and unfortunately instead of being extra dry (30% humidity) its now very humid (70%) the cab is hovering at around 31degrees and i'm running a dehumidifier so its about 50% humidity inside... i hope the dreaded budrot doesn't pay a visit!

HOORRAY BUDPORN! although its not much i'm still excited about my first real budporn! i tried to get some pic's of the fresh new bud growth but it didn't come out all that wonderful, oh well here they are anyway cos i'm bloody excited! I duno if you can notice the fresh new hairs coming out of light green in the pics; you can just make some of it out.

Day 57 today and i am planning on chopping LR2 #1 tomorrow or the day after, trics are looking pretty much all cloudy with a few amber, still not a lot. the other 2 i plan on leaving till day 65ish just to see the difference in smoke.

I'm hoping for couchlock which i know isn't what people usually look for, but i like smoking before bedtime so it can knock me out without me feeling pain in my back. Hopefully it will all work out!

meanwhile the Auto white russians are still not showing sex, i've looked everywhere and i can't see anything, im extremely dissapointed cos it means i won't be able to continue a perpetual grow cycle... i think #1 is 45ish days now and still no sex. Both are growing fantastic just not auto. both WR's got some intensive LST yesterday to keep them a bit shorter for flowering and i will flip into 12/12 and sprout the remaining WR seeds i have as soon as the LR2's are harvested. So that will mean the remaining 4 WR seeds will be running on 12/12 from seed. Should be interesting. I also have a few auto afghan kush ryder which i hear is non auto as well, i might throw a few of those into 12/12 from seed along with the WR just to use them up. You guys think 6 WR and a couple AKR will fit into my space? i guess i can always cull a few if things get too packed in there...

and a little update on those auto AK's i sprouted, 1 sexed a couple days ago and is now already got a big bunch of fat bananas and beginning to stretch (its my first male, ever ) and the other is still waiting to sex, i think its a girl! The male will be left to grow out and if the other is a girl, i think i will let them get a little kinky and get my first batch of seeds. I'm hoping to collect a few genetics and hopefully not have to buy seeds again for at least a few years! Exciting exciting stuff i can't wait!

Hey man, i'm glad you recovered these!

it's a shame they didn't get any bigger for you.. but at least they look top quality and frosty!

I've found that if you stunt them somehow in the first few weeks it's normally game over in terms of them reaching their full potential (size wise), all you can do is learn from the experience

who were the white russians from?

I've grown white russian AF in the past and they were fully auto..

MR_MOTA - i'm pretty sure LR2's are supposed to go for 8~9 weeks from seed. im currently harvesting based on the trics so not paying tooooo much attention to the exact day to harvest, but more going for around 50~60% amber on buds, whenever that finally happens (for #2 & #3 anyway!) right now im guessing its about a week or so away, but time will tell!

Gona chop #1 a little earlier just for a comparison for future reference, since its so damn tiny i don't think it would effect the yeild at all; i would be surprised if it was more than 2g dry so i don't think a week or so will do much


mitch_connor - thanks i am pretty happy with the way they turned out, especially considering all the pain i put them through! i think i learned a few things this time around so hopefully it will just get better from here! I'm really excited to see what they will all actually yeild, i know it won't be much but i'm still excited

The WR's were from attitude seedbank, breeder lowlife i think. I've not heard of anyone really having problems with them not auto'ing so i'm bummed. At least they look nice and healthy and hopefully are girls (fem beans). If they are, i should get a nice crop outta them gotta look on the bright side!

Yeh it seems like you have it sussed out, i've personally ran 'AF's' in the past that didn't auto, but by the time I had realised they weren't going too it was too late.. they were too big for my space so i called it quits!

You should contact attitude though.. you might get a refund or some free beans..? worth a try bud
