Thanks alot suga....I hope you are enjoying your weedend (yeah..I spelled it like that on purpose!)

Alot of research, work and cursing went into that little box. I'm very proud...but it's not even close to finished. :chin:

When I started building it..... Your box was some of the only reference material that I had!! Thanks Again.

I hope that I can experience yields somewhere in the neighborhood of what you have had.... :joint:

I have experienced the exceptional growth rates with hydro in my outdoor hydro garden.....till it got to hot to properly cool the res. (Didn't know about the water cooler conversion) and I was concentrating on building this box.....but I have 4 bio-buckets outside that drain inside a shed/storage area to a 4x3 bed under a 600 hps and back to the res. I'll have to show you some pics later.
But I can only grow veggies in that set up......for now. Heh Heh. :sasmokin:

Really, it's just good practice for the future. Which is very bright....indeed. :muahaha: :muahaha:

Be lucky and be safe.

a question for the more experienced gardeners out there ... would you consider this to be a case of "minor" or "moderate" root-boundedness ? it is typical of what i see when transplanting . am i waiting too long ?

yes like smoke its moderate and ready for a pot upgrade. I like a little rootbound, it ensures a strong and healthy stem for those nice heavy buds.

Whats up everyone:)

BRNEYDBVR, you have a really nice set up going. Didnt even know that mills pride makes a full length top for the U2 + U1 combined. Too bad Home De Pot stopped carrying Mills Pride forever...in this state atleast.
Your using PBP grow and bloom? Both have Liquid Karma in them I believe. Something along the lines of Pure Blend Pro is Pure Blend with Liquid Karma in it.

The TV that ontop your u2 cabinet, is it one of those super heavy ones? If the counter can hold then I may just keep my old TV. Whats the aprox weight?
I bought 6" and 8" L-brackets for the 3/4" thick roof and back, just incase!

Im soon to start building another Panasonic carbon scrubber. Want me to post a tutorial at that time?

Sugabear,
Plants look healthy, and the OB1 is coming along nicely. your new box filled with ganja will be a nice sight. Thanks for the link too. Though after reading BRNEYDBVR and your post about the dark room vent's glow, it seemed best to use PVC pipes for ultimate stealth. The design will cause a loss of floor space, which is loss of soil space and pot configuration. Its also a problem finding Rubbermaid rectangular pots that are 14" or less, the width of the U2. Not to mention pots less than 6" high. The plan is to use one gigantic pot or many small pots.

Update:
All of my 6 clones are really sick. They are 4 weeks old. The plants have been suffering from what looks like bute burn, since day two. Strangely they continue to grow fast, and the leaves are stiff and upright. New growth on each plant emerge with burned tips and yellowing, and then slowly die...

The seedling medium is perlite, vermiculite, wormcasting, at 1/3 each.
But I the entire county had no vermiculite. So I improvised: 40% castings, 40% perlite and 20% Organic Soil I use for flowering...:( Big mistake me thinks.

It gets worse...

The flowering plants are all suffering from moderate light burn.

It gets even worse...

The floweing plants are all suffering from over-fert of Pure Blend Pro. :(
I was feeding nearly 200% at 55 days. Well thier mothers could handle 130%.
But these plants were doing great on 150%. So I tapered them up. All the way until 175% with very little sign of nute burn. Then things got out of controll like an addict.

However, they are pretty big and continue to grow very fast...

<--very anxious.

Hello folks!

Bulenath - Thanks for the kind words....I'm sorry to hear about your clones and plants.......Sendin' some positive vibes your way to help 'em out. Which strain is that? And how long did you veg?

I didn't realize that Home De Pot had stopped carrying Mills Pride.......I was in my local store yesterday and they had plenty. If they are gonna stop carrying them....I might go buy another one... "Just in case" LOL!!

I used the same "L" brackets. If your gonna use 3/4 inch for the top and back.....it will be quite sturdy. The top that I have is 1 inch thick. It gives the cab a nice finished look.

My TV is a 32" but not the super heavy ones though.....approx. 80-100 lbs.

I think that a tutorial on that scrubber would be awesome!! :woohoo:
I'm sure that alot of people could benefit from it.

As far as the louvers go......I place some replacement A/C filter over the vents and use a little foil tape to hold it on.... This will keep the light from getting out and keep out the dust and bugs. Just gently vaccum once a week or so and it's all good.

FYI: My current 12/12 cycle is from 8 pm to 8 am. There is no light that comes out of this box with the louvers and A/C filter. The brightest light is the alarm clock.
With your plan for one big tub or even several smaller pots....you might want to consider this... The PVC uses up a bunch of space in a not so big area. As small as this cab is....I think using all available floor space is necessary.

For more stealth...I would like to put the scrubber INSIDE the box....and I think you have the answer. Can you give me the dimensions? L x W x H

Gotta know if it will fit in the top of the U1.

Although I have been considering buying a Vaportech 4000.

Good luck with whatever it is that you choose to do......Keep us posted.

Looking forward to the tutorial.

Be Lucky and be safe.

BRNEYDBVR,
Thanks for the advice. I will definately be considering those louvers now that you mentioned the AC filter. Perhaps both PVC and louvers for ultimate ventilation regardless of pot dimensions. The problem is, I hate cutting a square into the center of wood. Last time I used a hole saw and then filled the rest. I would have to opt toward the 4" round louvers, tape the AC filter over it.
Should work right..?

Well I made a little error. The 10" reflector is not going to fit in the U2. I miscalculated by two inches (fuck im loosing my mid here, heh). Go figgure I noticed this 12 hours after ordering the $100 light from HTGsupply!! ($50 shipping)
But its all good, cause the old cabinet needs a better reflector that will fit. Just hope that I can remote ballast the thing without messing it up, or its a $150 mistake...
If this works, Im going to use the current 150 for the new cabinet and build a getto reflector.

Well the plants, regardless of nuteburn, are taking off so badly I fear for mold, casue there really is no room left, and I dont know what to do at all... The colas are just too big for the cabinet.

I will start the scrubber soon and will definately post a tutorial:) The panasonic fan is 14 inches long, from one end to the tip of the exhaust flange. The width is roughly 12" and the height is roughly 8". I will get the exact measurements to the decimal when its being built. There is a 1" rim for mounting.

On a side note, does anyone know about transplanting mid-flower? I am considering strictly using the OB1 strain. Meaning I want to flower 30 days in the U2 using 2-3 gallon pots. Then transplant into the large cabinet with 5 gallon pots for the last 30-35 days
Sugabear what are your thoghts on this, since it will only be possible with your strain, cause the 9 week flowering period is perfectly a sceduled perpetual for clones, veg and flower.

Hello 150 club!!

Bulenath - What's up?

About cutting the square out for the louvers: Measure how high you would like the louvers......or just put one of the pots that you are going to use for flower in the box and put a pencil mark, you want to put the very bottom of the louver here.

Which means that your going to end up drawing out and cutting your square about 3/4" higher than this. If you get one of the louvers in front of you....it will make sense....the louver is 8x8, but there is a trim/surround piece on the front.

Sorry.....have I confused you yet?....LOL.

If your still with me.....

I use 8x8 square pots. About 2 gallons. Also 8" tall. I measured up 10" and put a pencil mark and another mark at 18"......

This wil be the top and bottom cut marks. A 2 ft. level, or similar straight edge can be used to draw your lines.

Now measure off of the left or right wall and find the center of the cabinet on the back wall.... center your louvers between the center line and the left wall and then from the center line to the right wall.

My bottom cut line was 10" off the floor of the cab.....just my situation...yours may be a little different.

As far as cutting them......Once you have the squares drawn out.....Use a nice sized drill bit and drill a hole at all four corners of the square. Then use a jig saw to finish it off in a hurry!!

I personally have not used the 4" louvers.....but I'm sure if enough were put in the cab, that it would work.

Get the 8x8's....Adorama.com.....Sets of 2 for about $40. I bought 2 sets and it was less than $100 with shipping.

You won't be sorry.

Be lucky and be safe.

Happy Halloween everyone! :sasmokin:

BRNEYDBVR,
Makes perfect sence! Though I have a hard time actually making the cuts into the wood. I dont have the proper tools for this... Still cant figgure out how you guys make a square in the middle of wood so easily... Takes me about 8 hours using the file..

Time to get baked and eat candy before the kids start...

Bulénath,

I don't know about the transplanting mid flower - in hydro it's never a problem - I would think you'd be ok if you did it no later then three weeks in.

There seem to be two phenos so far of the OB1 - the indica and the sativa - the indica has wider more symetrical leaves. The indie should have no problem pulling in 8 weeks to 60 days. The sativa looks like it will take 9-10 weeks - she was more lanky and had thinner leaves.

Both are fairly vigorous and do have stretch and side branching especially when topped or tied.

Here's a full plant shot of the indica pheno from day 52.

back

and closeup 2

these pictures are from day 52 of 12/12 with 2-2.5 weeks of veg from seed. I switched to water flush today - probably chop next week based on trikes.

Here's the sativa pheno

this one will need at least 9 if not 10 weeks IMO. same age from seed as first plant - this one I broke the neck on and I should have just let it heal, but I cut it off instead and let the plant make up with side shoots - I think yield will not be so good on this one but the bud looks nice and unique.

I'll be running the indie pheno again if I get the chance - the sativa pheno probably not.

I tried using one, its really old though. I couldent get the thing to turn!

If you have a drill and a hole saw or big bit you can make holes at the corners of your square and then take a saw and get in there and saw the square out.

I have the 4" round darkroom louvers and they glow when the 400 is running, but I don't seem to have any issues with light leaks even though I am running during the day.

Alright, so my plants are on their ninth day of 12/12, and their 3rd day under the 150w HPS. I just gave them a good watering, one was looking pretty thirsty, I felt terrible. It really made me sad to see that I let the plant go all limp because I didn't water it soon enough. Oh well, here's some pictures...

What a difference. The first picture is right after I watered, and the second is about two hours after. (Edit: I did turn the plant on the left around, sorry about that.)

There's my two plants. The one of the left seems to be more indica, the side growth was crazy from the beginning, and didn't grow as tall. The one on the right doesn't have as much side growth, has a little more stretch, and has two more fingers on the upper leaves then the previous one.

And my favorite shot of the day! Only took about 30 tries to get it in focus, I need to learn how to use this thing (Canon A95, any tips PM me!). Both of the plants have these, I was only able to get this one picture though. Looks like a girl to me!

And I was just wondering, If I had the ballast for a 150w HPS, and I ran two 75w bulbs, would that work? My next cabinet is going to be a bit of a rectangle and I'd like to be able to spread the footprint out a little bit, and make it so the heat is split between two bulbs.

Edit: I found the preflowers or w/e they are about 4 days ago, but you could only see them while using the radioshack triple magnifier thing. So they were sexed after about 5 or 6 days of 12/12. The one on the right took a day or two longer.

Yes! congratulations on being a proud father of beautiful girls!
They are fine indeed.

Running two 75's of a 150 ballast wouldent work, I believe. The ballast is specially made for 150 bulbs only. I dont know the technicals stuff, except that almost all ballasts are not interchangeable with different watt bulbs.

You could see female preflowers using the pocket microscope? Thats kinda funny thinking of you tirelessly inspecting every node with that tiny little microscope!! Ah you bunch of stoners...

Lol I didn't get the pocket microscope, that thing looked too complicated. I just use this little flippy thing here:
pRS1C-2264853w345.jpg

i've found that using the 5x and the 10x together worked best, using all three was just way too difficult to focus and on too small of an area.

Hey microgrowers!!

My link to IC takes me directly to the 150 club, I follow it almost everyday.
Everyones' sets look spectactular, someday when I'm gainfully employed I'll make a cab that looks as good as yours. Here are some pics of one of two plants I got, I want to know if this looks good for 21 days of flower.

This is my first crop and it's been a long long three weeks, do they look good?

Wow, I hope mine look like that in a few weeks. I'm on my first grow so I'm not too experienced, but those look pretty nice to me for being three weeks.

Edit: Oh right! I meant to ask, when I open my cabinet the HPS is an intense orange. After a few seconds of being open, the light turns more white. What's up with that? Am I seeing things? Should I be worried?
