Never really been that worried about one seed living or dying when im growing many and have the possibilities of cloning available. and has any one proven that this slight N burn in some seedlings will reduce yield or potency? Or is it just a slight inbalance(one of many that will probably occur) that the small MJ plant will face as it continues through life?

maybe facing slight stress at seedlings will show you the stronger pheno's of a group?

and yea, i have seen them slightly burn, but i have never seen them die. by the time they are in flower, there is never any sign of any kind of previous N burn from seedlings. so whatsthebigdeal?

and if you killed them from the N, thats your fault and not the soil btw. you could have easily flushed the soil, to just state one of many things to fix the problem you had before the plants actually died.. :(

There's no single answer to something that varies between grows. Some growers start with ferted soil and others use seed starter or the like with no added ferts. Generally speaking, cotyledons provide enough nutes for a couple weeks. I usually wait until they start to yellow before adding ferts. If I plan to use FFOF or pre-ferted soil mix, I start with unferted seedling mix in small cups.

Feeding additional ferts to seedlings is up to the grower but there's little benefit and (sometimes) detriment.

Just my 2 cents, but a little burn is sometimes worth the ensured growth. Better to be a little over than a little under. I try to grow high quality plants with high yeilds, not win beauty contests.

I have 2 plants going right now in a flower tent

So two plants equals many?

Im using FFOF right now for my first grow and it worked PERFECT for a soil…..they're at day 25 of flower today.

So you have been growing at the most for about 1 1/2 months. You haven't even completed a grow yet but you are running your mouth like a you're an expert. Gets some experience under your belt and your opinions will not seem like baseless conjectures. Until then try not to be so defensive and let your ego get in the way of the learning process.

Good Luck.

PS Looks like this behavior is habitual.

Hey guys!

Hey guys!

Greetings everyone,

I have been reading this topic for a while a year ago and I have learnt alot from you. But damn, this topic expanded at least twice!

Out of my 4 plants only one survived first week, because of my incompetence i suppose. But here's one of its' buds!

Just before my second grow (about 8-9 months ago) i was busted and I have moved to another place. I still have my 150w hps system, but I need to get another ventilation system which should be as silent as possible. Maybe you, my friends, could help me out a bit? I think ill build new growcab 42x34x66 cm, so i dont need very powerfull beast. I need silence, and odor control for reasonable price if its possible.

What's your opinion on these fans? http://www.sunleaves.com/detail.asp?sku=SIDF600

Thanks in advance!

If you're willing to spend $80 to $100, Panasonic Whisper fans are as good as it gets. I'm not that familiar w/ metric, your dims might be small enough to get away with a quiet pc fan if there's such a thing. If your footprint is approaching 3 sq feet, I'd consider a Panasonic, prolly ~80cfm (and Bulenath's filter.)

If my calculating is correct my growspace would be 1.5 sq feet or a bit more and somewhat around 2 feet high.

You mean DIY Bulenath's filter if I am correct?

I would never have began growing if it weren't for Bulenath and the Panasonic FV-08VK1 fan. I'd recommend that exact model.

.

i started with many...i only had enough room at the moment to keep flowering 2, so i kept the two best, one of each strain.

but yea...i thought i was posting MY experiences. Which is what I was doing. You go ahead and keep quoting other people, or you can maybe learn and teach by YOUR experiences.

Very nice CaptainSpliff.

Well, gave up and threw away the seedlings today. 2 weeks old, 2" tall, no growth in a week, very sparse roots in the soil. God damn miracle grow perlite. Why do they think its necessary to add fert to everything they sell, WTF. N burn I guess.

Picked up some soil locally today, cheap(20lb bag $2) but I think it might be OK. Has compost, peat, perlite, vermiculite(same as perlite but brown, no?) , sand and lime. Sounds like it has alot of the base stuff bud growers like(peat, lime, perlite) so we'll see...

:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

I mentioned my years of using jifffy's, switching to coco and my previous experiences with FFOF. Where did I quote anyone noob?

Please share your experiences with us as a grower because I have a minute to waste. Given the fact that your only 30+ days into the experience it should be a very short lesson. :)

Whats up everyone!
Catman, thanks for the praise my friend:) Nice to see you're still around and active as ever on ICM!

I got four females going under my 150HPS black cabinet for the time being. The white 150HPS cab has been turned into a veg box that fits 25 plants up to 3 weeks in age.

Now I am stepping it up and going with 1200w! The Panasonic whisper fan tutorial has some new information just posted from new experiences with Panasonic's inline models.

However, the 150HPS will always be in use! Long Live the 150 club:)

Pix coming soon!

Bom Bolenath!

Thanks for the update Bulénath, I was wondering about their inline models. Congrats on the huge upgrade!

Hi breezy1

Hi breezy1

The perfect soil mixture is super simple, and super reliable. I have been using the exact same mixture and fertilizers for years and years with nothing but excellent results.

There are two potting mediums that you need to mix. One is for Vegging plants/seedlings/clones. The other is for Flowering. Each one requires 3 simple things.

Flower mix:

1) Black Gold's Organic Soil mixture available at Walmart and almost any super store and/or their gardening department.

2) Perlite.

3) Worm castings.

Veg mix:

1) Vermiculite

2) Perlite

3) Worm castings.

Mix each particular potting medium using 1/3 each. That is all.

My fertilizer is Pure Blend Pro. I use PBP Veg and PBP Soil Bloom. Self-explanatory there.

If you start from seed, or freshly transplanted clones (clone chamber to potting medium), use nothing but pure water for 2 WEEKS.

On the 14th day start with 1/4 seedling strength. Water the next day. Fertilize the next, and so on in that fashion. Do not feed every day. Feed only every other day.
Raise the dosage by 20-25% each time you feed your plants.

On day 21 veg they are ready to transplant into flower. Continue with this fertilizer schedule, using PBP Veging formula, raising the dosage 20-25% each feeding. You want to use the Vegging formula for the first two weeks of flower, because your plants need the nitrogen to support the massive stretch.

On day 14 of flower, switch the plants over to the bloom formula, using the same dosage schedule- 25% increase every feeding. Never exceed the dosage on the bottle.

First of all I would like to apologize to everyone for polluting this thread with my lack of patience and anger. I know better but sometimes......well, I hope just you understand.:bat:

Breezy1- FFOF- It's simple, very effective, convenient and you will pay top dollar for those three attributes. I was getting a lot of pH drift in my longer flowering sativas though which I assume is from decomp of the organic matter, not certain though.

I don't use it any more and if I were to list all the reasons why I don't it would sound as if I were bashing them. They make growing accessible to a lot of people so that's a + in my book and don't wish to smear their name based on my current personal preferences.

If you are considering purchasing some, I would recommend you search for grow journals that are using it and judge their results for yourself.

The most gnar gnar hesh soil I've used is Subcools mix. I used it on a few outdoor grows with great results but haven't tried on any indoor strains.

Do some reading on Lucas formula, coco and Heads 6/9 formula. This changed my entire approach to indoor growing and suits my personal priorities quite well.

Good luck with whatever you choose though.
