The timers that are even cheaper with the little red and green tabs that you pull out and stick in at the time you want them on & off are the worst. They fail when the tabs pop out & don't trip the switch. I found that out the hard way, lol.

That's exactly the kind that I use, with the green and red tabs. I've never had it fail like you describe, but I just find it real crappy because it's simply not accurate.

If I set it for 12 AM - 12 Noon, I don't want the timer to be shifting every damn day by a minute or two. I'm probably going to pick up a digital timer the next time that I happen to be at home depot.

Cops don't have the resources to be out looking for 150 watt grows. Nor will they be able to detect one. Not with enough certainty to gain a warrant. But it would likely help you control the grow room climate more efficiently..but if it is a 150, no need.

Just got my SunSystems 150W HPS today at a local hydro store for a great deal! Finally getting an HID after using CFL's... Regardless, anyone have any tips for a new grow box setup? Just dimensions wise I guess... so used to super small places with CFL's. Thanks and glad to be part of the club :)

BC, that 150 is good for about 3 square feet. Light is distributed better if you'll orient the element parallel with the short dimension of the footprint. If your footprint is square, orientation isn't an issue. You'll get about a foot of penetration and you'll need additional headroom for pots, hydro res, etc. If you plan to LST or SCROG, you won't need but a couple or three feet of headroom. Some growers have 4 to 5 feet and have the option to let their girls get leggy. Either way, you're going to get the same amount of penetration and you might get a little less with substantial canopy.

Awesome grow DiscoBiscuit! Healthy looking plants! And the light that close doesn't seems to bother them at all!

I was a bit nervous about my grow space VS 150w HPS... but your designs look like it can work very great!! awesome!

FUCK!!! I was away for a week and came home to a very hot very humid cabinet. Last go-around i had my fan and filter up in the attic & I thought I was getting some smell escaping. I decided to move the filter inside the cab, so that all air must go through the filter first, then up the ducting into the attic & out the fan. My suspicions of a leak in my ducting appear to be correct - What happened is that the ducting has a clear plastic inner lining and with a hole somewhere in the flexible tinfoil-like skin, this inner liner couldn't stand up to the suction, it peeled itself away from the duct's wall and sealed the duct up solid. What I can't believe is that my fan didn't burn itself up and my house down. The thing was hot as hell but still chugging away like a champ.

I see no signs of mold on the plant, but I do see some white fluff on the top of the coco/perlite mix. What should I do about that?

BEWARE SUBJECTING FLEXIBLE DUCTS TO NEGATIVE PRESSURE! better to put the filter right on the fan and/or have the fan push through the duct instead of pull.

Here is what I did with my fan/filter assembly to avoid such things.

Hello, everyone. I've just finished reading all 426 pages of this thread, and decided it's finally time to post. Been lurking the forums for years, starting with OG, then GC, RIU, now here. I don't think I've ever posted anything on any of them, so this is really a first. I'm not currently growing anything other than a fat ass from being stuck indoors all winter, but a friend of mine just killed a nice plant using a ghetto set-up I made years ago! It's a 150 hps bulb and a 100 mh bulb mounted in a single fixture, both lights remote ballasted. It worked great from seed-vegged under the 100 mh, then kicked on the 150 hps when we flipped to 12/12 and ran both lamps...He killed the plant out of pure laziness, really. I repotted it for him once, that was about the only real care it ever got. No nutes, ever, just plain tap water every couple of days, plain old MG soil, absolutely no ventilation in a 2 1/2' x 2' x 7' closet. Yeah, the space is a bit large, but there was nothing else in there except a box fan, and the walls and door were white, at least. Anyway, despite it being grown with my lights and from a bagseed I gave him(strain was Death Star, I think) it was not my plant, so WTF?
Anyway, that inspired me to start thinking about putting together a new 150 cab for myself, which in turn led me to this thread, in a roundabout way. After all these years lurking, I think I've finally found myself a home here. Pipedream, Sugabear, Bulenath, and many others are like ganja gurus, and after reading through the entire thread, some of you fellows seem almost like old friends.
Just thought I'd introduce myself and say hi! Hope ya'll don't mind if I throw in my $.02 occasionally.

ogl, sounds like 250 watts of hid and a 5' footprint is just about right. You might not use all 7' of headroom but it's nice to have the space to work around. You can always plant that bulb close to the canopy and the extra space might come in handy for hardware, another grow area, etc. Glad you finally took the plunge, look forward to some pics and or descriptions of what you come up with.
