Probably just too worried about small details, in conjunction with cutting all corners possible, haha
Not a good mix, but it started out with a $15 raw ballast, so hell I just thought "Might as well try to make a little cab" You know?

It's okay though

i've been running the hid hut 150 digital for a while. just wanted to let you all know it was an awesome choice. runs completely silent and cool. i got the economy reflector with it also from hid hut all for about 120 shipped. picked up a bulb from home depot, runs like a champ! no rf interference either.

As I read these posts, and similar ones throughout the other clubs and threads I see one common theme...... too many details.

It's true, I too am a victim of over thinking each and every change and over engineering every detail of my grow. But both of those are a result of my personality and working as an engineer for over 25 years. While I enjoy doing it, in reality neither of them is needed to produce decent smoke. One year when my mobility was greatly hampered, my son (non-smoker) decided to try a grow to help me out. He didn't want to use my box, so he set out to build his own. It took him all of two days to throw it together from stuff I had laying around and other items he picked up dumpster diving. The seed came from an ounce I was forced to buy as I couldn't grow. Folks, when I say this set-up was crude and basic, I'm being generous!

Knowing nothing about growing, he purchased a bag of Miracle Grow Potting Soil, and a small container Peter's Indoor/Outdoor Plant Food. If I remember, his total investment was under $35. He germed the seeds in Pete Pellets starter disks, the ones you have to soak, and then just shoved them into the pots of MG. He started with 6, one died, and he had 3 males. That gave him 2 females that he grew to maturity. No training, no fiming, no leaf removal, no scrog, just topped them a few times. Added water when the pots got light, and food as per the Peter's label for Tomatos.

And guess what...... yep, a few months after he started, Dad had some nice smoke.

I admit, I'm no guru of ganja here. There are alot of folks out there, and right in this thread, that spend time to really learn this stuff and get it right. I on the other hand just enjoy the growing aspect, just like you might put mums in the ground in the fall. I'll leave the serious research and knowledge of genetics to folks like Sugabear. That's their thing, not mine.

So what does all of this rant come down to? There is a reason they started calling it "weed". It will grow itself if you just give it a chance and quit f****ng with it. My last thought..... Sug, speak up if I'm wrong here. All of those fancy seeds you can buy are mighty tempting. And you can get fantastic results with them if you know what you are doing. However, bag seed is generally the most stable genetic you'll find. It likely has been growing virtually on its own for many many years, and has crossbread with numerous other outdoor strains. These factors tend to make it healthy, vibrant, and tolerant to alot of varying conditions and abuse. Just like a mutt is always healthier and smarter than almost any finely inbread registered species of dog.

So throw some seeds in the dirt, cut a hole for some air, hang a light, and sit back and wait. "If you build it, the bud will come."

JMHO and 2 cents. No insult to anyone intended. (too much time on my hands now that I got laid off)

Have a great day gang!

One Love PD

Hi Folks,

This is my first post here on IC, and I wanted it to be on the 150 HPS thread. I've been lurking here and on good-old OG (RIP) for more than a couple of years, and I wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you to everybody who has shared so much of their knowledge and experience of growing your own!

I especially want to thank you, Pipedream, for starting this thread again here on IC. Your experience, kindness and generosity have kept me believing! Thanks also to Sugabear for being one of the most helpful folks around. You guys totally rock! And to everyone else, cheers!

Right now I have two WWs and three NLs (from fem seeds) overgrowing my little CFL veg cabinet, waiting for me to finish putting together my newest 150 HPS cab. It's been crazy busy lately for me and my wife, and so the little ladies will have to wait (and be trimmed again) for a couple more weeks before they are allowed to flower. I'll post pics when I finally get it up and running. I'll probably keep one WW and one NL as mothers. I also have two little Lowryders in there, but they aren't autoflowering as I had hoped. They are from seeds I made accidentally about four years ago. Their parents were from old-style MDanzig LR seeds I got from TreatingYourself, back in the day. I'll put them to flower, too.

I wanted to second Pipedream's earlier post that we tend to get too caught up in the details. I have a story to share that shows how amazing cannabis really is, and how little it needs us to mess around with it:

A few years ago I had a little NGB-style 150 cab set up for growing the LRs I mentioned, and I had grown two decent harvests in it from seed. At the time, I was also using it as a veg cabinet for an LST'd NL that I really wanted to bloom. Well, I had planned poorly, and ended up having to leave town for three weeks right in the middle of a grow. I had one male and one female LR in there, plus the lush, vegging NL. I didn't have anyone to give the plants to, and I didn't want to leave the cab on autopilot for that long, so my only choice was to shut her down completely. Pulled the plug to the whole thing. No lights, fans, nothing. I couldn't bring myself to kill the plants, so I just left them there in the dark.

Well, when we got back I opened the cabinet expecting to give it a good cleaning and start some new seeds, but found instead that the two Lowryders were alive! The NL had all but turned to dust, but the male LR was dropping pollen, and the female was still blooming. They were a little worse for the wear, of course, but after a little water and light they were back at it. A month later I had some decent, smokable bud and tons of seeds. I have to admit that even under the best circumstances the old-style Lowryder is a bit too mild and buzzy for my taste, but hey, who can argue with a miracle? I was so amazed that I almost posted this to the old OG 150 thread, but I figured no one would believe me.

We have to remind ourselves that these plants WANT to live! That said, I'm TOTALLY guilty of over-tweeking and fussing, and often freak out at a little yellowing or a burnt leaf! LOL!

Anyway, I'll post some pics of my humble setup when things settle down a bit here and I get some quiet time. I just wanted to say "Thank You!" to everyone who has made this thread such a great resource! You all are great!

With much respect,
Cheers,
Bertie

Hello everybody! I've been following this thread for some time now, and thought I should finally officially join. I just got my own 150w HPS up and running last Wednesday, thanks to sugabear's guide. This is my second grow, with some sativa-dominant cuts (wish I knew what strain!) I got from a friend.

Once I figure out how, I'll post pics - for some reason, I just can't get them up.

*edit* you can see the pics in my gallery, I just can't seem to post them in a thread.

Hey Count Krzysztof!

We both had the same idea at the same time! I wanted to post two weeks ago, but only just today had my registration finalized.

Cheers,
Bertie

well ive been trying to upload pics of my Shiva's in my dual 150 hps cab, but for some reason they are uploading too big. I'll spend some time tomorrow trying to get them uploaded correctly and posted up. They had an N def and started to look kind of nasty in the fan leaf department, but the buds kept swelling as they should so hopefully they will turn out ok. Good thing im doing a staggerd grow, so i know to feed the ones that are earlier in flower a little N so that they wont run out too soon.

I'll have pics up tomorrow hopefully. Ive been sick from work today and probably tomorrow so i'll have some time to figure out the problem.

Anybody else have problems uploading pics in their gallery's lately?

a couple more ? how do i calculate the amount of air i will need to move (ie what size fan do i need)? also would it be possible to run one fan that pulled through both the cool tube and carbon scruber? and what else could i use on my cooltube as they actual tube?

Thanks

happy - Sorry, but there is no formula for calculating the actual amount of air movement that is required. There are so many variables in each system, and each and every one of them has an impact on heat build-up. The best thing to do is search till you find the grower with the closest system to what you want, and see what works for them. Then, go a bit bigger to be on the safe side. And, yes, you can use one fan to both draft thru the cool-tube and exit thru a scrubber. Keep in mind that doing so will increase the resistance to the airflow and require more power. It will likely be a bit louder as a result. As far as an alternative to the bake-tube that many folks use, a cheaper and easier to find replacement can be found in any good sporting goods store. Try a replacement globe for a camping lantern. They run about $7, and are designed for high heat, maximum light transmission, and come in a variety of sizes.

cjk - There are a few possibilities for what your creepy crawlers are, and not all of them are too bad. Still, other than Ladybugs or an introduced predatory mite, I wouldn't think you want them. The safest solution is usually a soap spray with tea, tobacco juice, and or neem oil added. If you want to get a bit more agressive and are in veg or the first half of flower, an easy solution is a "No Pest Strip". However, I would recommend against the use of them if your box is in your bedroom. Throw up a picture and I'm sure we could be a bit more specific.
