Thanks lemon... Yeah its 67.5kw hrs/mo, but about the melon. A friend let me use a big light with a piece of reflective tin in the shape of an umbrella around it. My now wife and I were in college and wanted to make a few extra bucks. I had been cloning a few years for outdoor grow and thought I would grow inside. The double light 4ft flouros I bought for $10 at Wal Mart would not fill the buds in well, so I went with the melon. It was connected to a small yet heavy metal box that made a humming noise. The darn thing took about 20 min to heat up and looked like the sun was in our spare bedroom?? I don't know how many watts, or if the metal box was the cause, but you could watch the wheel on our electric meter spin around like a top. I think it cost me about $1000 in 45 days....I made about that on the 4oz and broke even and took a big risk?
So now I'm older and ?smarter? and am considering 150 grow box. Got a ton of q's on that, but really need to get my Jamaican plant to reveg before I can start the box, so I got time....

right, i have located a uk site for venture ballast etc, but with me not being electrical minded i could do with a little help.
basically, can you electrical minded people link me to the parts i need, ballast, capacitor, ignitor, think thats all i need for the ballast, i can get all the wires etc etc from work, the techs at my work are going to put this together for me.

well guys, for anyone interested, i got 2 HPS ballasts, sockets, and bulbs from businesslights.com today. shipping was fairly fast and boxes were entirely discrete - i'm not sure if this is because i specified for plain brown boxes or if that's how they always ship, but either way, they arrived safely in a manner that is unlikely to arise suspicions in anyone.
now that i have these... can anyone offer advice on an enclosure to use for the ballasts?

you should also be able to find these at home depot next to the circuit breaker boxes (they may be in card board boxes).

hey SBII, i think im going to go ahead and go for the "stadium grow" in my dual 150w hps cab that you suggested. I have one question for you.
Should i run the lights right off the roof of the cab, or should i lower them somewhat so that they are more level with the plants? I was thinking just running them off the roof so that they would have something to grow up to, and so that the very tops would have light once fully stretched.

Im Starting up a gow with some hashberry from seed with a 150 watt hps.I will be posting pics on here once i get the grow box up and running.This will be my first indoor grow ive had a few good harvests outdoors but now am switching to indoor growing in a small space thats 2x1.5x5 feet.Does anyone have anyideas on how i should grow them sog scrog and also should i prune for more buds and does that make a flater canopy.On the outdoor grows ive done i just planted the seeds and checked on them i didnt ad nutes hell i didnt evan water them but still got good smoke and yield.Ive never done anything fancy to the plants so that why im asking.
sog, scrog, or LST, whatever you feel comfortable trying . with 5' of height to work with you can even go tree-style if you wanted, but in a small cabinet, training has the potential for bigger yields.
yes, pinching off, or fimming, will help to build a more even canopy.

man, there are so many costs i just didn't consider when i first started this. all the miscellaneous pieces of hardware, paint, wood, etc. With working 15-20 hrs/wk and going to school full time, i'm having a helluva time finding time to do all i want to do.
on the plus side, i recently acquired some small cabinets i'm gonna be able to utilize. They fit nearly perfectly side by side on top of my current cab, so one i'll turn into a small clone chamber down the road, the other i'm going to make an external utility room to house the ballasts, blower (and maybe the powerstrip and timer if there's enough room). the good thing is that this means i can utilize more of the space in the main cabinet for growing, huzzah!

tiny ... if you have a thrift store near you they are an excellent source for 12v adaptors, extension cords, pots , etc.
