Thanks for the reply ! Ah, so foylon is much more expensive, I see. I did find one place online where they sold a 4.5 foot X 5 foot roll of foylon for $12.50. I also found another place where they said that it was no longer being produced, so maybe the places still selling it are getting rid of their stock.

Could be, but at 5x5ft@$12.50 I would pass and just buy a can or bucket of flat white paint.

White paint is alright, but I've been looking into the best possible thing to have in a growbox, so I was searching around for a minute.

I found something that has virtually 100% reflectivity, has anybody ever heard of this before ? I've never seen anybody mention it before on any grow forums that I've been to. It's the most reflective surface in the world.

Here's the reflectivity chart, and look at how it compares to white paint, wow ! Even mylar or foylon seems to pale in comparison. Imagine a grow box where almost no light was lost at all ! I haven't found any place where it can be purchased yet though. It might just be for industrial, bulk, purchases, I'm not sure yet. It's called Gore DRP diffuse reflectors. Gore is the same company that makes Gore-tex.

The applications seem endless for a product that offers the highest diffuse reflectance in the world. They include architectural light wells, photographic reflectors, laser casings, solar collectors, LCD and instrumentation backlights, light fixture diffusers and reflectors, photo-induction chambers (UV curing and tanning beds), and many more.

Here's the reflectivity chart. It sure looks impressive..

Going to throw out these questions to everyone here on the 150 club - please answer what you feel free with sharing - I will attempt to compile the answers and provide a summary in a few weeks time.

1.Where did you get your ballast from?
2.What brand is it?
3.What was the aprox cost?
4.How loud does it hum (1-5)?
(1 - barely at all, 2 - as loud as a desktop computer, 3 - as loud as a window fan, 4 - as loud as an aquirium airpump or a refrigerator running, 5 - loud as a mofo, can be heard through walls)

and my answers;

1. Lowes
2. Regent mini-flood
3. $89 USD
4. 5 - loud as a mofo

Thanks in advance for all those who participate.

Lowes
Regent
Can't remember exactly...$110 I think or abouts.
Very quiet...1

Mine wasn't a mini flood though. Of course I did have to pull it all apart and remote it per your guidelines. Been working like a champ. Unfortunately I've shut down completely due to a supply glut. Made a completely new "custom" box to house my 430 and the 150. Should have done it from the start. This things built like a tank and should wear like a well made piece of furniture. Don't expect to put it into action till the 12 or so "quart" jars dwindle. Could be a year or two.lol

As far as reflective surfaces go...a nice coat of flat white paint works and works VERY well. No need for expensive mylar. I have multiple grows now under my belt using mylar, reflectix and plain white paint. I can assure you that white paint is really all you need. If you've got money to burn though be my guest. Mylar was a pain to use/clean. Refectix was more durable but seemed to make my cabs retain more heat. White paint was easy to clean or touch up, is cheap, and is less conspicuous.

wow you guys kick ass - that's nine (9) entries so far in the data sheet and immediatly I see that my ballast must just not be in there right as no one else including the one fellow lowe's shopper reported above a 2 on hum.... :chin: hmm

Keep 'em coming crew - I'll be away camping for a few days but shortly after I get back I will attempt to compile a summary of what is most commonly being used and what has lowest hum and cost.

For a Canadian perspective

1.Rona
2.Globe
3.I believ eit was about 80$
4. 1, but when I repacked the ballast into a steel remote box the vibrations caused something that I'd call a 5. Easy fix cause I knew what it was.

If it was a Globe light then ya they probably did. They retail at Rona for $91 and change. Well you can always look at it on the bright side and think of the many harvest it will bring you :joint: .

Going to throw out these questions...
1. htgsupply.com
2. Mini Flourolux is the name of the whole package. No idea about the ballast.
3. $92.00 +$20.00 shipping & handling.( Super secure btw )
4. 4 when I crank it up.Levels off to a nice 2 with no probs. :) Hardly even noticable,I love it.

( Edit ) I wanted to add that I didn't have to take it apart and re-wire it or anything.I just plugged it in smiled. :)

if you examine the chart, you will notice that it only lists the reflectivity from 90-100%, thats only 10% points of reflectivity covered, and only about a 8% refletive difference between cheap white paint and specialty "reflecter stuff". I really doubt if you could afford laser refletors...
