Hey all! My gum is moving along.

One of my SDOg was a male so he was yanked. My big MMM#2 which is untopped has shown female preflowers already. My other MMM#2 was topped and has not shown sex yet. My other SDOg also was topped and also has not shown sex yet. Look it how fast my untopped mmm#2 is growing

-this pic is from a few days ago it is much taller now looks like I am going to have to bend this one.

Economic grow options?

Economic grow options?

Hey guys, I love the club, you've got some great grows going on.

I have a few questions about some products I found while searching for grow gear that seem to be very economical options for making an effective grow. They are as follows :

E-MT5H151G 150watt HPS Vapor Tight light from econolight, $25.00!

4 inch 40cfm/80cfm boost in duct fan, from HOME DEPOT $27.00

I have yet to see these products listed as good economic options for grows, yet they seem perfect, I was wondering if anyone knew somthing I don't know about them. I'm not actually concidering buying the light, I opted for 250 watt digi ! But I thought I'd throw it out there for other growers. As for the fans I am concidering them being the ventelation for my cab, does anyone think one of these will cool a 2x2x2 cab with a 250 watt digi ballast?

I have 2 150 watt hps vapor tight pendant lights in bakearound cool tubes from econolite the
cool thing about the vapor tight pendant is you can use the original ballast housing and all u need is a
high quality extension cord and some wire caps to make it remote,

For 20$ its a killer deal

As far as the inline fans i would stay away im about to junk mine
there loud they dont move much air if u add any ducting, bends, vent covers, or
filters u get this annoying whirring sound and they just arnt suited for anything
except a direct non restricted air movement
i would suggest the stanley blower mod it moves a tunn of air and
will even work on a 600 or 1000 watt if u decide to upgrade later

her's a link

I have tried that cheapo 4" inline boost fan and it is junk. Sorry for the bad news. I would suggest a dayton 134 cfm or computer fans.

that pendant light does look to be the bomb though and I would def go for one

i use a pc fan to assist my other fan in cooling my 150w hps, but no i dont think pc fans could pull enough cfm to properly cooltube it.

Common CPU Fan

Common CPU Fan

Best Buy 120mm 70 cfm cpu fan

So this thing looks cheap, think if I hook up 2 or 3 of these babies that I'll be set? Do cpu fans only work as intake (like the do in a normal cpu) or are they just as good turned around (exhaust)? Thanks for all the quick replys BTW. :joint:

dont always look to save cash, sometimes it is nescessary to have a piece of equipment that works really well, in the end you could by one stanley blower for the same price as three of those fans.

Arcane - They work fine as an exhaust and should always be used that way.

Using more that one fan is fine, even if the second one is just used within the box to assist in air movement and harden off your stems. The problem arises when you use a second fan to create an active intake. There are three problems that exist with active intakes. First off and most important is that they tend to pressurize your box. If you are trying to control odor, this is the last thing you want. Once the pressure increases, the sweet smell of skunk will find its way out of every crack and crevice in your box and bypass your scrubber. The second problem is that once air moved by an active intake fan enters the box, it will experience a sudden pressure drop. When it does, any particles carried in the airstream will drop out of suspension and deposit themselves all over your leaves and buds. This includes dust, pollen, mold spores, insect larva, and other things you really don't want in your controlled enviroment. This is the principle of dust-collectors used in factories and cleanrooms. Lastly, because of the pressure drop and air resistance within your box intake fans are not nearly as efficient as an exhaust fan of the same spec's. Its much easier to suck air out then it is to push air in.

Long answer to a short question.

Regards, Pipedream

rkone: I can't use somthing as loud as a stanley as quietness is essential to my setup (I live at home right now). Also, my one good piece of equip was the 250 watt digi ballast, it set me back in cash for other assets!

Pipedream: Hehe that was complicated for a stoned mind to comprehend, but I get what you are saying, I hadn't planned on using intake fans and your answer totally solved any doubts I might have had.

arcane-check out the honeywell turbo fan...
i use one on setting 1 of 3 as exhaust, and it moves enough air that i dont need an intake fan, just a vent.

therer arent alot of super silent fans you can buy,but you can make a cab quiet after you add noise.

I can personally attest the the fact that three 70cfm computer fans make a hell of a lot more noise than a stanley blower, while doing a lot less.

The only noise the stanley makes is the woosh of the air going through it. High speed computer fans give off an aweful murder inspiring whine.

For computers you can buy special quiet fans. Most standard fans that come with machines from shops or from manufacturers have shitty fans that suffer from said "murder inspiring whine".

Namo, my computer fans make no noise, both in my PC grow, and in my functional PC's, minus the ones that are overclocked and run serious cooling equipment.

Standard pc fans make very little noise, and almost none when enclosed in a case. I'm specifically refering to those high speed fans over 50cfm, especially the AC variety.
