12/12 From Seed: A Different Way To Grow

''whats the average time for a plant to show sex from 12/12 from seed?''

turtlelampman,

usually most hybrids show sex as early as 16 day from the time the seeds have sprouted the soil. Females can show sex from day 18 or so and most will have been sexed by around day 22 .

thanks very much^^^ one more thing a while back i tried a 12/12 from seed. the plant took around 27days to show sex. but didnt flower. it was basicly stuck in pre-flower for 14 nodes. then i said strew it and cut her down. there were no light leaks in the cab. the only problem i could think of would be heat. what could have caused that?

hi turtlelampman,

you are welcome

There are varieties that can take much longer to show sex under 12/12 light regime ( ie some long flowering sativas , these may take much longer but in my previous post I was talking about most ind/sat hybrid strains).
You also have to remember that growth rates are important cause if you can grow a plant fast enough with optimum rates you ll see it will show sex and reach maturity faster than a plant that was growing with slower rates and is less developed.

May I ask what strain you were growing ?

As for heat , what were the day and night temps?

the highest i ever saw the thermometer was mid to high 90's. the plant was differently a sativa dominant. but 4weeks after showing sex and it was still in pre-flower was just weird.

Perhaps it was partially down to heat and the plant was stressed for some reason and hormone production was stunned.

Was it growing big as expected during these 4 weeks (after sexing) producing leaf and new nodes ?

You say it was a sativa so that explains things a bit.
Well some sativas can flower for 17 - 18 weeks or more so its possible that you got something like that and it just wanted to reach a certain size/ hormonal maturity before it started flowering properly . This is the case with many equatorial sativa strains.

Also I would like to say that the plant needs less flowering hormones to show sex (just preflowers) and plants even show preflowers while in 18/6 (while still vegging basically) . Probably the plant showed sex while it was still 'vegging' (irrespective of lighting) but since it was a late finisher the plant didn't start flowering after weeks from the day you sexed it. Also remember seedplants take much longer time to start flowering (compared to clones).

Without more info about the strain , growing details and pics its very hard to say what caused the slow onset.

it produced about 12more nodes after sexing "before i killer her". but she just shot out 2-3 pistils around the base of each node. not actual buds just a pistil or two. but sorry about the poor info though.

cannasmoke ,

give us some more details please and few pics would help too. What exactly do you mean slow growth , what stage are you at ?

wish I could get you pics mate but I dont have a camera thats able enough to give you a good look at them.

I'm using Canna Coco, may have some pH problem's, meter's fu***d, growing under 400WHPS, they've been growing for maybe just over a week now.

one is drooping, have my suspicions that its overwatering, we'll see when it dries out, other plant has crusty spots on the leaves (dull grey-ish color with a little yellow) and the other two are fine for now, I just think they should be bigger by this stage, only 2 plants are on their second set of leaves.

revegging plants that were flowered from seed is no different to revegging plants that had received veg prior to flowering.

What stage are you at ? You can take a clone from the plant even if its in flowering and the plant was flowered from seed..

Canna,

its hard to tell without pics really but it sounds like they are growing slow could be due to the reasons you mention , make sure you let the soil go well dry before watering again. Roots don't like oversaturated mediums really , try to have dry-wet cycles..roots need oxygen . Added perlite in the medium can help.

Hey Wilson

I 've made seeds from 12/12 , no different to making seeds with plants that received some veg time .

hey man, i give one week veg after clone then right into 12/12 works great, 1oz per plant, and every 2 months! veg is a waste of time with aeroponic

Very nice RG!

This thread needs to be closed and a new one started. 64 pages is too many for a stoner to read..

I do accept this method as a good/different way to grow.

Very true !

In my current grow they started showing after just 14 days

I remember watching this thread grow several months ago,
always with the hope in mind that I would have something to add.

Now, after some experience, I have a little bit to add.

Its true, 12/12 from seed will not cause you to have hedges growing out
of your closet, but this is partly why I enjoyed this method so much.
If you're just starting, I'd say there's no better way to get experience and a quick harvest under your belt before you move to 'bigger things'.

Female Seeds Cinnamon - This strain performed AWESOME under 12/12 from
seed, it gave out luscious, sticky buds just like you would see on a plant that was vegged. This was the pride of my crop and stickiest weed I've broken up to this day.

Nirvana Ak48 - This must be an indica dominant strain, BOTH times grown out with the 12/12 from seed method we have seen a single stinky cola
with a max dry weight of 18 per plant. Both female phenos exhibited a sweet smell in flower, the first pheno smelled identical to a cherry jolly rancher.

Nirvana Bubblicious - I've had 3 separate experiences here. My FIRST 12/12 from seed run with this had me chopping it down early to harvest in order to make oil because of security issues. My second experience with it was bad due to my own fault of over-fertilizing, therefore leaving me with 4g of single cola dry weight indica at the end - this was kind of like a joke plant (again, because of my own fault).
My third run with this strain was the best, arguably over ALL of my experiences. This was a branchy little bonzai tree that had me constantly
trimming branches away. The smell that came from the flowers was oldschool grape bubblegum, like you'd smell from a packet of grape major league chew. When you squeezed a nug it was sticky on your fingers. After a month cure the taste started to come out to a peppered grape, but most of the 2 O's I had reaped from this lovely girl were consumed by then.

To sum it up - GET A SATIVA from a reputable bank. Female Seeds is an awesome company that provided great consistency, big ups to them. Nirvana really IS hit or miss with their genetics IMHO because I would rather purchase seeds that are sure to pop with quality. I went with them for the price at the time.

I was just doing 12/12 to get some experience with the flowering period, which thankfully now, I have a lot more experience at manipulating!
happy trails.
