250W with some Nirvana strains straight in 12/12 , this remember me my first grows ...
had lot of funs with this kind of setup
(for the sex, just wait around the 3rd week of 12/12 )
Things are looking good in there, using a common container for multiple plants for a small space is a great way to go, I'm running a similar setup in a small fridge grow.
CFL's are all I use to veg my girls, I like HID's for flowering though.
Be carefull with the temps, get al el cheapo 2 in 1 hygrometer/temperature reader, Home Depot sells them for cheap.
If height is an issue then keeping the humidity around 50-60% and keeping temps under 80 will help in keeping them from stretching.
If you have an exaust fan the hook it up to you reflector, it will kept the lamps heat from mixing with room air, of course you need a line of fresh air into the space also.
You'' be surprised how much tweaking the room conditions will make for healthier plants.
Hi man, I have done 12/12 from seed with Nirvana strains a few times, and I have some important tips:
Start your seeds off in the size pots you intend to finish them in, this allows them to get quite big even without a veg period, this is a key difference with 12/12 from seed, I find a 5 litre pot is plenty big enough and I have had good success with 2 litre pots.
With 12/12 from seed grows, start them under your HPS, just keep the lamp high until they have a couple of nodes to avoid burning them, this gives tham a better start than using CFLs which is critical with a 12/12 from seed grow.
Soil ammendments like bat guano that are good for flowering plants are very useful in 12/12 from seeds grows. I like to use tall narrow pots and add bat guano and other ammendments like worm castings to the soil, but only add the guano to the bottom couple of inches of soil, this way the plant doesn't start feeding on the guano until it is starting to flower (3-4 weeks in).
Some strains just don;t do well with 12/12 from seed, choose strains that are at least 60% sativa for the best results. I use this method with pure sativas to keep the height manageable.
Here's a Nirvana Swazi I recently grew 12/12 from seed in a 2 litre pot under a 250w HPS:
those side shoots happen....not all strains grow in the pole shape, Its pretty typical in my short experience to find the very bottom of plants to send out a few of these branches at the very bottom of the plant. I usually prune these off the plant once it gets going into its flowering stretch. These bottom branches just put out little popcorn size nugs, so you don't lose anything by trimming them, and all the plants energies that would go into growing those now will go into the main cola.
But some strains will grow more in the bush shape, even in this light regimen, its all in the genetics. These northern lights beans should give you the pole shape though...they did for me.
Don't feel ashamed for having the grow you got right now...this is definitely not a contest on who has the best grow room...if anything it is a contest on who can grow the best weed. I'm incredibly happy with the pot I am growing now with CFL's, its the best I have ever smoked. I will be even happier when I get a 400 watt HPS....but I'm happy now too.
sometimes the mark of a good grower is rolling with the punches and getting them to the finish time.
Those sprouts look awesome, those side shoots are a good sign, it mean the temps and lights are working well and they're bushing out.
I like lower profile plant but your doing 12 from seed and that's not something I have alot of experience with, I've done 12 /12 from rooted clone though lol.
That medium looks dry, maybe it's just the pics but the topsoil looks a little dry, if temps run high then make sure they have enough water.
I've used PBPro as an all in one bottled nute, it's organic based and is relatively cost effective, with 3 bottles you are covered fron the start of the grow to finish, it's well buffered and works with hydro as well so a vesatile pick for an aspiring grower.
I'll second that opinion on the Pure Blend Pro...I only use the formula for flowering in soil, going 12/12 from seed doesn't need any veg nutes really, as long as you are starting with a real good soil mix, such as Foxfarm Ocean Forest.
When you say 3 bottles from start to finish, is that because PBP has a three stage nute schedule pertaining to different stages the plant goes through? I know you can't mean that you used up 3 full bottles of the stuff in one grow, right? I've been using the same bottle for a few grows now...small grows for sure, but still, I can't see anyone using that many bottles...unless you have an incredible grow going.
sorry that whole nute thing wasn't very clear, my new Volcano is getting me a little too High.
By 3 bottles I mean the PBPro Veg formula, the PBPro Soil Bloom, and LiquidKarma.
You won't need the whole bottle that's for sure, make sure you get the soil bloom because the regular bloom has way too much N for flowering, if I need a little more N for say the transition then I mix in a little veg formula, the liquid karma has alot of humic acids and can sugars and other goodies to get the most from a rich soil like FF.
The only thing this lineup can be short on is calcium or magnesium but I use dolomite lime in my soil mix which covers that.
A good soil mix makes evrything easier in the end, I persoanlly make a rich soil mix and feed with homemade teas, LK is the only bottled product I still use occasionnaly.
