HOTC's Mother PC Case (using coco)

Greets all!

Been interested in PC case grows for a long time now. So finally I decided to make one of my own - just to keep a couple of mother plants. Clones will be flowered outdoors, and soon hopefully flowered here in my 250watt HPS cab.

It is simple & fun to get a PC case going. Also pretty cheap. The hardest part was probably getting all the bloody pop rivets apart (old school case). What I used:

Big-ish PC case - 43 d x 49 h x 19cm width.
45watt cool white CFL & socket & wired plug
Mylar/ceiling insulation/reflective material
Lots of black insulation tape :D
Old PC PSU
PC fans
Drill, screwdriver
Cardboard.

---

Here we have the case with side-cover off. Lots of guts to take out...

All guts taken out (what a mission), PSU still attached 'cause I was deciding whether to keep it in or out.

Added fake DVD writer and stiffy drive...

Black insulation take to stick everything in and seal the gaps.

Gotta have some reflective material.

I found a really nice socket that has a little mounting bracket attached. I screwed this to a small piece of wood and then fixed the wood to the top of the case. You can see the drill holes.

Picked up a 45watt cool white CFL. Will be perfect for mom plants.

Almost done...

More to follow

Time to do the ventilation.

I decided to go with a dual 80mm exhaust. One on the inside, one on the outside... Both fixed to each other.

Simple light trap...

Adding the 80mm intake.

Another light trap for the intake.

View of the back.

The PSU will site outside. To get it working without a motherboard, just short the green pin on the main connector with a ground (black) pin :D

View of the top section...

Coco!

Pull up a chair, swing a blunt and get ready to do some chilling with HOTC. This is gonna be fun!

More pics and info on what strains I'm doing soon. Stay tuned!

Ciao

High buds, thanks for all the positive responses

tngreen, I'll be using soil/plant bags to grow with. Starting off with the small ones which are 15cm tall and have a diameter of about 6.5cm. They hold 500ml water. Once sexed, the mothers will go into bigger soil bags, probably around 20cm tall and 10cm wide. We'll see how it goes. I still need to decide how many mom plants I want to end up with. I might also keep a male to get some seeds going (nice having bulk seeds!). I think I'm going to start with either 8 or 10 plants... 8 plants will be easier to manage but I might get some better variety with 10! Glad to hear you're growing in coco too - I'm gonna need a bit of guidance! Are you using special coco nutes? I'm not and that's the only thing worrying me now. Deciding whether to go for GH Flora 3 part of Biobizz. Any thoughts?

A quick update!

Prepared all my coco and everything fits in nice and snugly :D

Just a couple of corner light leaks I need to sort out. I'm sure some black insulation tape will sort this out. Will get some tomorrow

My coco mix with perlite

Great pH for coco. Lucky I have good water! :D

Testing to see how things fit...

With 10 x 500ml grow bags

In position!

All closed up!

Peace

I love it. I'm followin this one closely. Coco is something i'd love to learn about.

Looking good! One question: do those growbags have holes in the bottom? If so, what are you gonna do about the water that will inevitably run through?

High glock23, yes they do. For the moment I just folded some twin-ply :)D) toilet paper a few times and lined the bottom with it. If things get too hectic then I'll buy some absorptive cloth to put at the bottom. Or I could use a towel or something. I also have a long rectangular drip tray that I could use - I'd have to cut one end off though, so I'll do this if needs be.

Do you have any tips/ideas?

Cheers
