Ghetto Vertical 4K Sealed Room - Afghan Kush, Blue Dream, and Bubba

this is my first real indoor grow in almost a year (tents dont count), and I decided fuck the traditional approach. KrunchBubble's vertical rooms inspired me, so i made my own, copycat that i am.

The Room:

-10x12ft bedroom, 8 ft ceiling, one window. Pondliner floor

-four 8 ft. shelves make a 8x8ft square in the middle of the room, two rows of plants per shelf. bottom row is 16" high, top shelf is 50" high. very similar to KB's setup except my shelves are ghetto. actually one shelf is only 6ft so that i have a 2ft wide entrance to the square

-4 cinderblock columns, using 8x8x16 cinderblocks stacked on their side... shelves are two 2x4's side-by-side, duct taped together.

-Panda plastic from floor to ceiling behind shelves

The Air:
-15kbtu AC in the window, room sealed.
-Sentinel CPPM1
-3x 20lb co2 tanks and a 50lber that will remain empty cuz the room is on the second story
-70pint Kenmore Elite Dehuey (loud as hell)
-1x 20" boxfan on floor beneath lights

The Light:
-4x magnetic ballasts, two hydrofarm two sun
-4x 1000w Hortilux Super-HPS bare bulbs hanging from a chain in the middle of the room, 2 bulbs at 30" height, 2 bulbs at 70"

The Plants:
8 Afghan Kushes
8 Bubba Kushes
16 Blue Dreams


The Grow
-3 gallon pots... half the plants are in smart pots, the other half in normal black plastic.
-100% Straight Canna Coco, plus some perlite in just a couple pots as an experiment.
-Drip Irrigation a la Krunchbubble, 3/4" mainline to 1/4" drip lines.
-Lucas Formula (GH Flora micro and Bloom) (Floranova Grow for veg)


Pictures coming soon... i apparetnly lost my camera cord. Everything is about 3 weeks into Veg right now, about 12-18" tall, some bushier/taller than others. The room is in the final stage of construction, installing drippers and putting up panda plastic..


some thoughts:

-4KW bare bulbs hung on top of each other is the brightest thing i've ever seen. need sunglasses.

-went with 3 gallon pots instead of 2, just because i don't want to worry about crowding my roots, despite Krunch's proof that 2gal is fine, i am just paranoid...

-trying smart pots vs. regular pots, I doubt i will see a difference but this test will put all doubts to rest in my mind

- i have high hopes for this Blue Dream in a vertical setup, knowing how much that strain stretches..

-this Bubba cut grows quick!! i have had the pre98 before and it did not grow this quickly.. i wonder what i have now?

-i hate spider mites... for some reason i always end up getting infested clones and not noticing until it is too late. now i have to spray and pray The Blue Dreams are the only ones really affected though.

-Duct tape. I bought at least 6 different kinds this week, some sucked, some are great... I like "duck tape" . icmag should have a duct tape review section.

-more fans.. maybe some oscillating fans mounted to ceiling above lights
-NETTING... i need to put this up. hey Krunch, if you read this, do you have your netting tight against the shelves or do you leave some slack? how do you train ur plants? haha i should just pm you. lazy bastard iam

-i'm high, my jar of OG is running out, my girl has the bed all warm for me, i think its time for sleep

Nice line up. Wish I could get some blue dream. The best tape by far is Gorilla tape. Its like $10 a roll, but in my opinion worth the extra money. Yea mites are a motherfucker. Got a small case and I just ordered some Organicide and been oil. Good luck w da grow. Keep it sticky

duct tape thread? good idea methinks! not a fan of the 'duck' tape but shurtape and 3m hold their own pretty well.

Good shit bruh, the blue dream looks amazing, a dewd here grew them out in coco and they really look AA with the yield being above average.

these things are growing too fast. Im going to flip to 12/12 today, but i think i may be too late... my blue dreams are almost 2 feet already! they seem to have blown up overnight. Floranova Grow is some powerful shit!


I've installed my drippers and decided to make a drip ring for every plant, (they cost $5 each premade) so will probably spend a couple hours on that tomorrow.

My temps are pretty consistent around 80 degrees, co2 at 1500ppm, RH at %50... plants are loving it, bathing under 4K watts of vertical light all around. it truly is as bright as day in there. now that i've added co2 the growth rate is phenomenal..




Question: should i put the blue dreams on the bottom shelf , and kushes on the top shelf? I'm assuming this would be better because the BD will stretch much more i'm sure.

hey bro...could you PLEASE show a few pics of your set up? I have similar dimensions...and i've been looking for a something like this. Just want to understand how you stacked the cinder blocks and created your shelves and stuff. Thanks in advance bro.

just flipped these ladies today... here's some shots of the room on day one. only 3 of my lights are on in these pictures, one of the bottom ones is off. i will probably start using it in a few weeks.

also i haven't put up my trellis yet, i will do that tomorrow

I think the BD was meant to be grown in a vertical setup... this should be interesting..

this is how i cool my lights... AC in the window, air through the gap betw. panda plastic and ceiling to get inside the 8x8 square. super ghetto, cheap, works great. I think i paid $140 for a used AC on craigslist. installed it in a casement window by naiiling it in with plywood

I have four plants on the floor, one in each corner. This is one of them, a clone-only White Widow strain that is also known around here as Piko's Poison.

I have 2 white widows, 1 Blueberry, and 1 Tangerine on the floor. they got an extra 3 weeks veg time in the closet and are quite bushy already, hence the double smarpots (just cut the bottom from the small one with a razor, and place it on top of the big one)

my ballasts and reservoir are in the same room, outside the square. that is my veg closet to the left..

fuuuuck, just went in the room to check it during lights off, and my drunk ass left the t5's in the veg closet on all night, with the closet door open... oh well, its only day 2, the plants can pretend it was a full moon or something.

I don't know if this means anything, but I'm growing some Afghan (not Afghan kush), but the leaves and structure looks exactly the same. I'll be watching I want to compare our finished product... Props, post more pictures!

it's a crazy plant... HUGE jagged dark leaves, bushy growth, responds great to training and pruning. Wild and prehistoric, this strain would look at home growing in Jurassic Park

I hope the nugs are as good as the vegging plants haha

Hey man nice grow. Im gonna take your suggestion for floranova grow. I like the way that you set up your lights. Looks like you could put your ballasts up on shelves that would be nice. Make sure to use some high quality nutes to really kick your plants into flower. Are those drippers that i saw? Where does the runoff drip too ?

I started in 2 gallon growbags and transplanted to 2 gallon ebb and grow buckets but wish they were bigger. I have roots shooting out the tops of the coco. On the other hand i have room for more plants.
