Curing aging and illness is not a desirable thing. We do not in any way need more people living longer. We are supposed get old and sick and die, to make room for the next lot.
EDIT
What I mean about curing illness, is we shouldn't be trying to go beyond allowing people to live a normal lifespan.
Define "normal" lifespan. Alexander the Great conquered the world, and died at age 32. Our lifespans have been increasing over the millennium. There is no reason to believe that trend will stop. Advances in science will eventually mean that we have the possibility of living MUCH longer lives. What makes you believe that we "are supposed" to get old and die? If that's the case, why bother with science & medicine? It is part of man's makeup to try and discover new things, understand our universe, and understand life, death, our bodies, and how to heal them. Research goes on, and despite the opposition of religious fanatics, will continue to go on. Stem cell research is our best hope to end illness and aging, and I believe it's entirely possible. Just another mystery that is being slowly unlocked. It's the birth rate that needs to go down, especially in third world/poor countries.
Curing aging and illness is a desirable thing, and has been man's quest since the beginnings.
Because of computers, knowledge/research is increasing exponentially. Drastic changes have been and will continue to be made. Change is inevitable, and it comes at an ever expanding rate. No telling what the next 10 years will bring. Longer lives are a reality, and they will continue to expand man's lifespan through science.
