Yayyy! My first colloidal silver generator (photo)

i,m curious, why didn't you fill the jar with water??
I only used 500ml/17oz because if I had've used more the end result would've most likely been more diluted/less ppm of silver, and everything I've read including notes from you has generally aimed for ~16oz so I've decided to stick with what works - it's easy enough to make more batches later.

I'd like to get a decent ppm meter so I can do more tests to figure out how each variable affects the process (ambient temperature, distance between the two silver electrodes, voltage used, and time taken). Unfortunately there isnt a lot of info on the internet about making feminised seeds from CS so questions like "whats an ideal ppm for CS to reverse the sex of cannabis plants?" remain largely unanswered, but there are a lot of websites that show you how to make your own CS at home and im trying to mine those sites for the best data regarding the variables. The only problem with those sites however is that they're made for making medicinal (very low ppm) CS, so they might just say to have it turned on for 3 hours, for example.

So when I get some better data on it i'll be able to make larger, more accurate batches, and possibly in less time.

and your 2 silver coins, it look like some birds on them and their colored?? what is that? is it baked enamel?? or am i seeing things.?
Dont worry it's just the camera playing tricks, as they do  - it still looks perfectly silver to the human eye (i went back and doublechecked after I saw the photo!) so im not sure why the camera is picking up the bird in that bronzey colour. (You can see them in their brand-new state in the 1st photo in the 1st post in this thread).

A really good job Pheno, what are you going to treat with the CS now that you have it?
The targets for sex reversal are a Cinderella 99 and a Grapefruit, two personal favourites . Actually I only had 3 C99 beans left before I started this, so hopefully the 2 that i'm using for this (ill be pollenating one C99 with another) will reward me with enough C99 beans to last another decade or so. Their targets for their feminised pollenation will be another Cinderella 99 as just mentioned, an ICE, a Northern Light, and a Super Silver Haze.

anyway, keep it going till you have some finished fem seeds to share(with me)hehehe
I'll give you a yell in about 2 months.

all the S1s i,ve grown out have been genetic matches to the parents, no hermies, mutants or runts out of about 700 grown over the years. a lot better then normal seeds IMO
ssshhh .... I find it enjoyable watching people who've never grown them whinge about hermies, so lets not tell them how well it can work :D

Cheers again mate!

ps. i've just invested ~US$20 in a digital ppm meter off ebay, thatll arrive in a week or so. Its resolution is 1ppm with an accuracy of +/- 2+, has a range of 0 to 9990ppm, and works in temperatures of 0-80C so should be perfect for this job

Has anyone tried this on male plants? If it is able to produce female flowers on a male Durban Poison, what would be the condition of the resulting progeny if crossed with a stable female sadhu? Would they be all females or 50/50? Being a closet specialist, I would love to eliminate males altogether until more space is available for propagation and storage. Obviously I would do traditonal male/female cross for preservation purposes, but the space saving aspect is hard to ignore.

too cool. I bet if those mexicans knew they could make feminized beans in the woods with a 9v battery instead of growing males they'd be pissed.

:yeahthats

what i wanna know too! just read the last 4 pages and was about to ask the same thing.

if there is something to stimulate male flower, there must be something to do the same for females. i have had males turn female ( or should i say hermies that femaled?) so it's not impossible... well i don't believe it is at least :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank:

This is a neat thread I've seen the one with the 9v battery as well. I could do 12/12 with femmed seed. I love it. I would never need to rely on a male plant again.

Reversed males produce sterile seed. See Clarke's mari botany i believe.

For those not so DIY inclined you can buy collidial silver generaters that come with 99,9 percent pure silver electrodes- they sell them to make your own silver water for health reasons. Check your local health shop or goggle it.
Just run it way longer to get the concentrations they are talking about here.

OH, I like this thread. I'm going to give this stuff a try.
Good stuff.

This is an interesting thread. I've been drinking colloidal silver for about 12 years now, off and on, and I haven't had one cold in all that time. Unlike one poster, I wouldn't drink the stuff from a health food store because they have preservatives, which makes it a silver compound, and not pure silver....that's what can lead to argyria, if you drink way too much.
I can still understand people not wanting to ingest it, especially if they're new to the whole idea, but one thing to keep in mind is that silver is used in over 90% of the burn units in this country. Silver is the only thing that will keep a severe burn patient alive because it promotes tissue growth. So, to all the people using it for seeds, just something to keep in mind in case you ever burn yourself...it takes the pain away almost immediately.
The only thing I haven't seen mentioned in this thread, and maybe it doesn't matter if you're just using it for seeds, but the ideal way to make colloidal silver is using 30volts, or you can wire 3 9-volt batteries together and use 27 volts. Here's the original article I read about it back around 1995... hmm...I can't post the url but if you google 'banish disease with 3 9-volt batteries, you'll find it.

This is one of the top three most useful threads I've read on the forums--and I've read a lot of useful threads! It's hard to attach a value to this information. Big ups  to PhenoMenal for this. Dude, I'd give you more rep if I could.

Now I need to pull together a little cab for seed purposes. This just turned into a high-priority project. I have a bunch of seed I'm dying to germinate, and the prospect of making 1,000s of my own fems with top-shelf genetics is very, very exciting. This could make the phrase "clone-only" obsolete! :biglaugh:

Nice thread, great information.
Do you have to spray the whole plant with CS to induce pollen sacs or can you do a branch and still get pollen sacs ?

hopping in on the props here.

Very interesting thread - and very easy to do obviously,
with all the needed info in it.

I´d love to see a documentation of how u use the
CS u made on the plant and come up with female seeds
and then see them flower :)

...have never bothered with making female seed, as
i like to have males around...., but hey... if i had the spray....

thx.

cheers, Wyatt.

I will be trying this method this April. I will do a full thread with all my info I find out. I got a few plants I would like to female and what better way. Then to test them with this method.

One thing I didn't see or I missed. What was the spray method? How often do you spray the plant and how much?

Great thread,
BG

Mission accomplished. I now have some home-made feminised Cinderella 99 x Cinderella 99 beans .... plenty of them, and virtually free.

Again though can I just stress to anyone who makes their own colloidal silver to buy a PPM meter - theyre relatively inexpensive and can be found on ebay amongst other places. If the PPM isnt high enough then it won't be enough to reverse the sex of your target female plant

So that successfully concludes my colloidal silver experiment.

--

My next experiment? Using light poisoning. The obvious advantage with that over colloidal silver is that there's no need to use any chemicals or make anything such as colloidal silver (not that that requires much effort!), in fact it requires no equipment at all, but the disadvantage is that each day instead of just spraying the plant you have to physically extract the plant from its grow chamber, expose it to light for a couple hours then physically put it back. It's a little bit more work, but doesn't require any chemicals or any other equipment.

Thanks to everyone who's helped to contribute to this thread, i see it has been viewed nearly eight thousand times now lol

The experiment journey continues ....

Awesome, Pheno, congrats! I've been wondering about your results--glad it worked out.

I made a silver generator based on the instructions here. When I made my first batch of colloidal silver, my PPM was the same as before I dunked in the silver--only 10 PPM, despite ample silverplating on the side of my Pyrex bowl and many visible chunks of silver floating throughout the solution. I ran less than a pint of distilled water for oh, around ten hours? I used a 9-volt, 850 mA adapter with two .999 pure silver bars.

I'm planning on doing all-female C99, too--growing the seedlings for it even now. Ditto Mummia. :smoke:

NPK best of luck!
but you dont need to use much water at all and its best to make CS in small batches. There are other variables as well such as how much power youre supplying (you can use a lot more than i did), how far apart the silver electrodes are, etc - i notice they seem to be quite far apart in your picture, but im pretty sure youll get better results the closer they are - but without touching obviously, but ultimately all you can do is control how fast the reaction happens, which is why a PPM meter is the only thing that can tell you how far along its progressing.

One other thing ... when you stress a plant with CS its just like a boxer losing a fight - he'll be mostly ok in a couple weeks but for that period he won't be very healthy, its like giving them a kick in the guts. So i'd recommend vegging a plant for at least 3 weeks so as to give it a good start before exposing it to any CS.

How much water should you use?

So 1/2 oz coin will be used in how much water?

How long is the solution good for, shelf life?

so, 10ppm of silver is good?

I was just wondering the same thing in regards to shelf life. How long is it good for? I made a CS generator back in August of this year and used it on my White Widow female. It worked very nicely reversing just the branch that the solution was applied to. I still have about a quart of the solution left. Pic's of my CS gen. are in my gallery. I ended up drilling and soldering my coin's. Good job on this PhenoMenal. :joint:
