XX females expressing as male

If the definition of a hermie is a plant that expresses both sexual organs on the same plant, what is a xx female that expresses as a male?

Its like the proliferation of feminized varieties is segregating drug type cannabis into 2 distinct sexes.

With the tales of the 100% males found in feminized seeds and proposed s1 seeds lots, I wanted to start a conversation...

We know that females (xx) can produce pollen sacks and pollen, but if that pollen is used how could there be male offspring?

If cannabis is capable of xx females expressing as xy as a survival trait

Does drug type cannabis even need males at all?

To answer your last question, in a horticultural setting, no, males are not needed since in some cases females will rodelize and produce a few seeds, which we cultivate, however, in the wild I doubt cannabis could exist without males. The number of seeds produced by rodelization is low, probably not enough seeds to ensure species survival. In the wild the males are needed for more complete fertilization of the females and larger numbers of seeds produced. In the wild the ratio of seeds produced to seeds growing plants to maturity is extremely low.

also if you add an ethylene overload to XY cannabis they will express XX flowers.

so STS to females blocks ethylene uptake = pollen sacs
and Ethephon to males adds ethylene = flowers

not sure if rodelization works the same but its probably very likely.

What got me to thinking about all this is…

I reversed a peanut butter breath and pollinated chem sis. When I was looking at those females I noticed one was looking like a male. I collected his pollen and used it on a few of his siblings as well as back to his mom.

According to some people that have seen this happen before they will be regular seeds.

I just think it’s strange a female that produces pollen sacs would produce male children.

How is this possible?

Was it a male or was it a hermie with predominantly male parts?

Perhaps hormonal imbalance causes it to become unstable. You need males because if you don't have males the pool gets pretty narrow,a peak is reached quickly and eventually environmental pressures will make it succumb. There must be millions of pollen grains released ,maybe there are some mutations or something among that number.JMO

It tested as a male.

And has 2 boy children…

New theory…
Hear me out…

There’s some sort of mutation on one of the chromosomes making it look and feel like the other one. Like a broken x that looks like a y and fits in just the right spot.

Then you get an unusual amount of “double” seeds that pair a male and a female to ensure survival???

the somewhat unpopular answer is we don't understand the cannabis sex traits completely
xx and xy is a simplification for cannabis

Yeah, I’m like if true males can come from a female cross or s1’s, how do we know that any “regular” seeds or even landraces populations didn’t come from this sort of situation?

Would we be able to tell?

as it stands now you probably couldn't genetically trace that because it would require a greater understanding of the cannabis gene/sex expression than we currently have
that is contingent upon the xx/xy model being incomplete
one thing is certain - isolated populations of monoecious hemp will give rise to dioecious hemp
that is well observed in the hemp industry
