Looks good from over here. I wouldn't be concerned about a few leaves if the majority of the canopy is good.

The beer cup is the "canary" plant I referenced a few pages back. It's been abused pretty hard -- I accidentally dumped it out of the cup at least 3 different times, hence the tape. It's a seed from one of the sublime buds (sublime x ppogk) that sprouted in a fabric pot next to one of these budding plants. I'm not expecting much from it -- but given the opportunity, I just want to see if I should trash these ~ 300 seeds I got out of this crap bud, or if maybe someone like my dad would want them -- he's into growing low-quality smoke for some reason.
And yes, beds for the win for sure

I haz the thrips. Early stages. Gonna order some ladybugs tonight, any other suggestions? I'm gonna need some nematodes too, aren't I? Maybe I should try to find the ladybugs locally tomorrow to get them faster.

Hmm, further reading shows that I've confirmed 2 thrips predators in my soil already, which would explain why the infestation is so mild (1 thrip per ~5 leaves only in certain areas). I'm also reading that ladybugs aren't that effective for thrips. I don't really want to spray anything (neem, spinosad) since week 5 starts tomorrow but I'm also considering the possibility that it would be better to do it now than be forced to do it a week before harvest. I really wish I could be more decisive on this...
you've seen monterey garden sprays (spinosad) label right? most "minimum days to wait from last application to harvest" are 1-3days. some 7 days, maxiumum 14 days for peaches, nectarine and apricot. so i think with at least 21 days left, you could use it safely. it is OMRI listed (if that means anything.)

Yeah, I was trying to be on the safe side, but I think you're right. I've read a lot of other people saying the exact same thing, that it's fine to spray on your buds. I'm going to call around to see if I can get some locally tomorrow but I think it would take an hour's drive each way for me to go to one of their listed dealers. I didn't want to get it online and have to wait for it to come in either, but I might just have to stick it out. Either that or take the drive tomorrow. Thanks man.

Do it. I remember seeing a thrip I believe it was on one of my first grows in Colorado. Used Spinosad after seeing only one and that was all it took. Good stuff. Get them before they get out of hand.

I'm about to head down there right now. I guess I'll wait until lights on or a little before to hit 'em. I've never used the stuff, but I'm assuming I should douse everything top and bottom just like any other pest spray. I slacked on neem applications during veg this time, now I see why that was a mistake.
Spinosad. I believe the active ingredient is a bacteria that kills the thrips. knocks em dead. 2 sprays a week apart. Your flowers will be fine.

Thanks man, that sounds like a good plan. I think it's actually a chemical that a bacteria produces, rather than being a live culture. Still, it looks like really good stuff. Rain's slacked off, I'll head down there in a minute.
The critters ingest the bacteria that are sprayed onto your leaves. The bacteria then feed on and break down the digestive systems of the critters. Eye for an eye, little shits. A pretty metal way to go.

Okay, I must have had some bad info there in terms of bacteria vs isolated compound. I'll do a little more reading.

Update time!!
Aside from the thrips and a little bit of hot spotting, things are going pretty great over here. I hit them with some spinosad tonight so hopefully I can wash my hands of these thrips soon -- they seem to be progressing pretty quickly all of a sudden.
Buds are getting big and dense now, looks like the next 5 weeks are going to go pretty well from where I'm standing.

Thrips look pretty well knocked back now. I found one live one that seemed sluggish and a few dozen dead ones.
