That's a shame you had hypocrites as parents, maybe one day when you have kids you'll be better qualified to weigh in on the subject matter with some real life experience.

Parents make decisions for their kids when kids aren't equipped to make some of those choices themselves.

Seems this question should be aimed at folks who have something viable to offer in the way of parenting.

The strange thing to ponder is 13 is not THAT young. 13 year olds have ruled great empires, fathered children, been pawns in wars. Smoking pot, interacting with family is not the worst thing any human being could be doing of any age. I am not claiming a 13 year old has the maturity of an 18 year old. But then again an 18 year old usually lacks the maturity of a 40 year old. 18 is some random number imposed by "them". 18 is when you can have sex. Smoke. Buy a lighter. Maturity doesn't just happen at 13, 16, 18 or 21.

LOL oh bro then you really misread my post as my parents were great!!! Couldn't ask for better lol.. I'm talking about all adults when I was a kid.. Gee I don't know about you but everyone I knew drank or did some type of drugs whether it was bud or presc. or hard street drugs .. The only ppl that didn't were cops/preachers/and religious fanatics that were always trying to tell ppl how they should live LOL...We all know that even they were hipocrites .So bro your no different then all the other deluded parents that think their kids don't do anything wrong LOL.. And yeah it does make me laugh when a confessed bud smoker protests so much about what others do..??Me thinks thou does't protest too much.....This is what makes the world go round .. You do your thing and I will do mine and I'm fine with that lol lol..:jump:

i started young like 14 or 15 but i think that 13 is way to young. if your going to put an age limit then i would say 18 or 21 to start. but really i would say it depends on the individual and their maturity level.

One day i had a long time vendor at the shop and we were talking for a few hours and I told him I need to leave but it was good talking with you. So he invites me overto his house for some drinks and smoke after work. I arrive at the house, well I should say compound because the house had a massive 10 foot fence around it with barbed wire and giant rottweilers roaming the yard. Now im thinking maybe I shouldnt ring the electronic buzzer and just turn my truck around and go home. But I put my better judgement away because this guy has always been the hippy-dippy stoner so I felt it would be OK. So he comes out greets me, put the dogs away and we go inside.

Inside the house its a whole different feel. His wife, sister and mom are cooking loads of edibles. Theres 4 ovens all next to each others with cooling racks all around. 1000s of edibles all over the house being packaged up. about 100-140 pounds in turkey bags sitting on the floor in the corner. Trashbags stacked to the ceiling full of trimmings. And a single table scattered with trimming scissors, vapes, rollng papers and a random assortment of hash. Then his kids run into the room yelling and playing, about 4 of them aged 5-10. One of the youngest kids, probably 6 or 7 years old, looks at me and can see my look of confusion, there are bongs on every seat and he grabs a bong sets it on the counter and says "have a seat". Then the he grabs the bong, stuffs a nug in it, and says "here this is my daddys newest harvest".

As if I wasnt already stunned, my buddy hollars over to them to settle down and do their chores. Now im thinking alright, theyre probably going to go clean up their room and make thier beds or something and then we can smoke. Nope. They all gather around the table pull up a rubbermaid and start trimming plants. I had to fucking laugh. It was too surreal. So I ask him whats the deal with the kids and he smiles back and says - "why pay trimmers when i got kids who will work for free?". Then his wife, who speaks no english by the way, brings me over a tray of fresh baked edibles and puts them in front of me and with a huge smile hands me one.

I just couldnt get over it. It was like in this house, in this part of the world, in this tiny section of the universe, marijuana was 100% legal, almost as if prohibition never happened. It felt like I had gone into a farm house that made corn or wheat and this was just another plant for them to process and make a living from. There was no danger placed on it. It felt like the most normal thing in the world. I will never forget that experience. I just wish we could all enjoy that lifestyle without fear of arrest and CPS.

Hopefully one day we all will.....

And to most, that will sound extreme!! But it all teeters on the 1 thing that is essential to future legalization...."Normalization"!!
When I was growing up in the 60's and 70's, Parents that smoked were few and far between-- These days, it is very common--
Kids love mysteries...if it is normal, it is boring--
I think more than ever, kids now will be more influenced by their own personality type....peer pressure is getting weaker, the more that normalization is setting in--:tiphat:

I don't think its right at all. A 13 year old is not developed enough physically or mentally to be starting smoking cannabis that early.

The one thing I'd point out is when I started smoking, I was not mentally mature enough to focus when I'd smoke. I would want to SMOKE, SMOKE and SMOKE more but not get anything done.

I'm of the personal opinion that no one should smoke herb until their brain has fully developed...to allow a child to smoke at 13 borders on criminally negligent. Really quite disgusting to me, and while I don't condone anyone getting into legal trouble for pot, those parents are worthless fucks who need to either get their shit together or give the kid to somebody who isn't an irresponsible, burnt-out idiot.

The concept of "well, he's doing it here, so at least he's safe" is a bullshit cop-out. We all remember our friends in high school who had the cool parents who drank and drugged with the crew and let us party at their house so we'd all "stay safe"....can't say a single one of those kids with parents like that ever amounted to anything, and I have a pretty good idea as to why. :tiphat:

it's the mentality. It wouldn't have made a difference what my patents said or did, it's what I decided to do. I was drinking malt at 11 and smoking meth at 13. Now I own my own businesses, nice cars, and have a pretty good life. My cousin who was in my dame shoes is now studying at MIT. My brother who was even slamming H is now working in the studio with Egyptian lover and M.I.A. Then my buddy who's dad was a ridiculously strict high ranking marine is now an alcholic who's addicted to percocet and oxycontin...

Teenagers shouldn't be smoking at all in my opinion, not these days. Let them build a solid secure future with a good job and then they can decide if they want to try it, but of course this is the real world and that rarely happens sadly

bad parents

I don't know if I can call them bad parents overall, but I don't think they realize the full weight of their decision. Some kids will sneak behind their parents' back to smoke and drink. I understand they want their child to be safe when it comes to smoking cannabis and they probably think that this is the best decision.

However, once another adult hears the kid say, "My mom and dad know I smoke cannabis, because they let me do it and I smoke with them.', the parents will lose custody and the kids will be placed in foster homes. As parents, you hope that they thought this through and considered their options.

  • Do you take the chance of letting your kid sneak behind your back to smoke cannabis hoping she is around friends she can trust that won't take advantage of her while she is high?
  • Or, do you hope that she won't accidentally and inadvertently snitch on you while bragging to her friends that her parents like her smoke cannabis?
  • Even worse, what if someone overhears that her parents have weed and decide to try to rob the house?

Maybe those are situations that may never happen, but still you have to consider them.

I started at 13, but i don't want my kids to start that early. It all depends on how they act as teenagers. I will try my best to educate them. If they smoke and have a good head about things then yes i will smoke with them. Anything questionable and i probably won't be smoking with them. i had to get arrested a few times before i got my head on straight, no need for it to happen all over cause i am smoking with my kids. Once they turn 18 though :smoke out:

The first time i ever smoked pot was with my parents. And im going to make sure its that very same way with my kids. I dont want them getting there shit off the street. I dont want them smoking moldy weed. And i dont want them to have to feel that they have to hide anything from me. I would much rather my kid get high at the house then out and about somewhere else. In my state where i grew up NH penalties are very harsh and i wouldnt want the kids risking jail because they feel they have to hide there habbit from me and go other places to get high.

First time gettin high my friend and I asked my mother to smoke.. She packed up a pipe of some hawain an we were giggling like little school girls. not only did she plant the seed of high quality ganja in us but she showed us a diffrent way of life... a way that we could survive without being puppets for the gov.. Now my friend and I are producing some of the finest ganja in the northeast. But i guess my mother is a burned out idiot and i guess im going to amount to nothing lol.. to each is own mang

I wish my parents would have smoked with me or at least educated me about pot when I started smoking at 12... I listened to my stupid friends and their stupid friends they (and I) would buy from. I ended up smoking PCP because my weed dealer at the time just said "oh this weed is way better, it will get you way higher". I just thought it was strong weed...

If my parents would have educated me, that probably wouldn't have happened. Although, I do not agree with parents "forcing" their kids to get high, but if the kid is already doing it then I don't see a problem with parents smoking with their kid if that's their (the parents) decision. Parents should raise their kids as they see fit. I strongly disagree with raising children by what a book, tv show, or someone else says. Kids should be free thinkers, not programmed through their schools and the media.

Anyways... It comes down to this, at least for me; if the kid is already interested in smoking, then it's ok for them to use it occasionally with their parents or in their own house because it really is safer for them that way rather than in some strange back alley with strangers...
And if the kid isn't interested in pot, they still should be educated about the subject but not "forced" to smoke or try it.

...just my 2 cents...
Peace out
