having 2 kids that age, THEY ARE BEAMING with happiness already, their lives are not that complex or difficult to require altering their being to find balance

they get balance from their parents

they have a period of time to physically develop without any little body chemistry alteration to their body

not to mention she would be in foster care if they get caught

how you explain that to a judge?

i feel the same way about alcohol cigarettes and pot not to mention other drugs

i was raging at 13 on far more than pot but i did not have a life i cherished

i wish different for my kids, not that they exonerate it as a choice, but develop all the other necessary skill sets in life before they seek balance from the outside

Well bro in my eyes you are dreamin...lol.. If I had a parent like you and I don't but if I did ,you can bet your bottom dollar that you would not know what I did as a teen!!! As all my friends that had strict parents did everything behind their backs and I mean EVERYTHING!!! LOL... The more the parent thought they had a handle on those kids the more those kids would go out and have lots of fun without their parents knowing shit lol.. So for all the ppl that think thier kids aren't doing shit I have NEWS for you lol.. I seem to remember the worst kids were kids from police parents and preachers kids always going extra crazy when we went out..So go ahead and step on your kids to do what you think is right and see how that works out for ya lol..IMVHO you better get a good relationship with your kid reguardless of what you think let them find their own way . If you did a good job as a parent then all will work out well.Your kids are going to see right through your bullshit because they are your kids.Let us not forget that most kids I know and knew then would do anything for their parents and if telling them they did drugs hurt them then they just didn't tell them. I seem to also remember kids telling their parents stories so their parents thought they were better then what they really were. My son is 14.
We have always been open and honest with him.
He understands the reasons why he should wait, and is content to wait... for now.

He has friends at school who have stopped hanging out with him because he won't smoke with them... He also knows that said friends are going to regret that in a few more years.

Of course it is going to be an individual thing with each child... I'm fortunate, some kids would be gonna do it regardless of being well informed or not, but having always been open and honest, and having always been consistent in it, seems to have worked out well so far.

There are advantages to him knowing.
He's always careful when bringing friends over, for example.

Of course it is an individual choice and decision that every parent has to make for themselves, but smoking with your minor child is definitely irresponsible and not a good example... However, since I don't think or feel that there is anything remotely immoral about using cannabis, I don't think there is any reason to make my son feel that there is.


(funny related story: he came home one day laughing his ass off because his friend had paid alot of money for some "purple primo" and was telling him that it was the best you could get because the 'primo' meant it was harvested prematurely which makes it more potent... Of course he did not correct his friend, because he knows that he "shouldn't" know better.)

I like to think of it the way the French think of alcohol in general, kids are given small servings of alcohol on occasion so once they are finally of age it isn't this forbidden fruit that they go over board on and binge drink the way that I have seen in the part of the states I grew up in. Teach the kids responsible use. Get good grades or at least be passionate about something, and once the work is done free your mind.

Alas, French teens have caught up the binge-drinking wave. Alcohol education is less & less practiced and with nowadays "well-thinking" minds many people would be outraged at such a practice.

The parent's "safety" argument is valid indeed, but is there any education about it in the same time ? Or is it just about letting here doing what she wants to do and basta ? Education is crucial in that matter otherwise the safety argument is just a pretext.

I have no kids of mine, but 2 nephews aged 10 & 13. They've seen me growing & smoking since their early years. Then came the time when THE question was asked "Uncle, what is it that you put in your cigarettes ?" Here we go... I answered the question and that was all. More questions came afterward, with more answers & explanations about the how's and why's circling around the plant, its use or even its geopolitics.
So they know what it is, how it looks, how it smells, but they're just not interested.

I remember hanging out one day with a dreadlocked family in NoCal back in the late 80's. I'd stopped by to catch a buzz and score a bag. A joint was going around and their three year old son jumped into the circle to join in. Needless to say, that freaked my shit out just a bit. It's wrong to push MJ on an unknowing teen, but if the teen comes to you, or you become privy of the situation, that's a different story. If this young adult already has the intention of smoking pot, without your influence, there is NOTHING wrong with having a new hobby to share.

My parents told me no, and that may have been the thing that pushed me to try it. The rest is (ancient) history.
