I haven't had a job for about 7 months now and I'm just starting looking for work again...been sitting on my arse for ages and it's getting really boring...and also I'm in need of some cash.

So, what is your job? Do you enjoy it?
Are you able to smoke at work?

I'd love to get a job somewhere working outside being left to do my own thing...but it's kinda hard to find a job like that these days...all there seems to be available is shitty warehouse jobs.

God i hate working :badday:

if you don't mind being outside and your not talking about high paying jobs then golf course maintenance is right up your alley.

you get a golf cart with a mini pickup trailer bed on it, and you change the holes on the courses, water greens, weed whack. use a leaf blower. shit like that.

I used to smoke like an 1/8 a day at work when I used to do that.

Try landscape maintenance. You get to be outside, be around plants, no real hard landscaping like laying sod, requires little skill, most places probably don't drug test, drive around town from place to place checking out chicks, find money and pot (I have found both)... be sure to wear hearing protection from machine noise.

There is a golf course about 5 minutes walk from my house...I might go up there tomorrow and ask if they have any work going.
From what you described it sounds like my perfect job...driving round in a buggy being left to do your job by yourself, and being able to get stoned without paranoia sounds cool to me.

I used to work concert security at outdoor amphitheatres, very laid back, easy access to smoke, and no piss test. You get to meet some cool bands too. The only downside was we had to help the roadies load the trucks at the end of the show, but after that.... :joint:

All the shitty jobs have to run ads.. Know what I mean?? The good jobs don't have to advertise. Figure out what you want and go get it. Just show up at the start of a shift or when they open and say you want to work. If anyone is late that day... They look like shit and you might get a job. Don't show up like you just got out of bed and barely made it.. Act and look like you've been up and ready for a few hours.

Otherwise, get back to school..

I really enjoy jobs that I can just do shit by myself, come to work when I want, do my work, leave without having to answer to anyone. Its nice. I need to get back to work.

Well thankfully we don't have piss tests here in the UK...yet :fsu:

You mean I should go for the direct approach Legion?
As in go to the business when they open and ask to speak to the manager and talk about if they have any jobs and give them my CV...rather than just show up and ask for an application form?

Heh, nothing people can usually get. I live in a place with a pretty large fisheries industry and a lot of its just no questions asked, cash pay out whenver you want, work. Pretty much immigrant jobs. I just do it because its easier and hassle free.

My job is as follows: I put oyster shells into mesh bags, and then tie the end closed.

So, no doctors or lawyers? Funny that. Do you think our jobs reflect our love of the weed? :chin:

thats good advice...most of the work I've done is commercial fishing (no getting high at work tho...but u cant beat the money)

but "legions" advice is solid...commercial fishing jobs (for instance) dont generally advertise, you have to either show up at the docks and ask for work, and be persistant, you might be told that there is nothing today, but someone may quit today or tomorrow, or get fired, and if they spot you as the gung-ho guy that is really looking to work...then you'll get a chance eventually....especially if they see you out there at 5 or 6 am everyday ready to work. And no matter what field your looking into...be willing to do anything...I got my first fishing job by just being willing to offload their catch...I offered to do it for free to prove my worth, it took 6 hrs I was paid 120 bucks cash, the crew bought me a nice dinner and a few drinks, then offered me a deckhand job that paid me 9,000 bucks in my first 9 weeks.

I've since worked on quite a few different boats and have made as much as 70 grand in 13 weeks....yeah its working 20 hr shifts 7 days a week, but I can make a grip and get high as I want on my own time the rest of the year.

I'm only using commercial fishing as a refrence for ya because its what I know. (probably not something you or anyone else in general is really interested in).

1 other thing to think about is "who you know"...your connections are often the best place to turn when seeking work...and often easier than a "big job search"...cuz that really does suck.

good luck

If I was to say its not scary sometimes I'd be a liar. (and yeah it is the deadliest job in the world)

I have worked on crabbers, halibut/b.cod longliners, and salmon boats....all in Alaska...and usually in winter (except salmon, and some summer halibut).

I have had very good friends killed....so yeah it can be VERY scary. (I've never been a personal witness to such disaster tho)

however I'm an "adrenaline junkie"...and i tend to thrive of danger and adventure..so it works for me...and i love it when I can make a years salary in a couple months...get 1 big check and do what I want the rest of the year...or work another fisherie and save a bunch.

It's been 2 years since I worked on the boats, but I will be working my old deckhand job next fall (2007).

I'm a backpacking guide, and I wake up most days in total shock that I actually get paid for this! But no, smoking is taboo subject at work - thats something I have to keep kinda quiet, oddly enough. You'd think that all the outdoor, hippyish people I guide with would be into that (and some are...), but the bosses do NOT dig it.

I am curious as to how you guys get such chilled jobs...I mean how do you get a job as a backpacking guide? Do they hire you for your experience or qualifications? Did you walk into the place and ask for that specific job?

backpacking guides and sim. type jobs are sometimes advertised on:

www.coolworks.com

also if your into skiing or snowboarding...there are many resorts that hire seasonal peeps. (lift operators and such)

look at coolworks and look at colorado...for some of that...the colorado resorts hire peeps from all over the world ...they have housing, and u get free ski passes to ski/ride several different mtns (thats a valuable perk)...and evryone in the ski/snowboard industry is a smoker...there are even "toke huts" on the mountain at breckenridge (and breck. allows possesion as a city ordinance).

so that may be an option if u wanna do some traveling and live in a cool place around very cool people...that are just like you....plus the jobs are "chill"...nothing like commercial fishing.

Start your own lawn care service. I don't mean mowing peoples lawns, COMMERICAL lawns. You'd need to invest in a couple large deck mowers and a couple push ones. Go get contracts set up at companies to mow their lawn weekly. Companies pay a shit load for this service, and you can work for around 8 months of the year. Offer winter clean up (pretty much raking and limb removal), then lawn care, and then fall clean up.

Easiest way to get this started is to go to a lawn care service that's going out of business and buy their customer list. Then you go around to those businesses and tell them "So-and-so is going out of business, I was wondering if you'd like me to continue their service for 10% less". Most of them will say yes, just so they dont have to go through the hasle of finding a new lawn care service.
