If you know anything about finance, go into flipping houses. You dont have a 9-5, and make some good money depending on the area. Anything in real estate pays well, you dont have set hours and can do what you want. Noone does piss tests in real estate , since most of em are on coke anyway. Easy gig if you are good at numbers. Plus if you are good with your hands you can buy old homes, get a crew together and go in fix it and sell it. Your crew can be smokers as well since most in constuction ( sorry for stereotype) guys smoke or dont mind people that do. Just a though. Its better than a fishing boat in alaska. Although to the guy that does it in this thread... heres to you my friend. takes a big set to do that so you got my respect!!

Guiding does generally hire for experience, but there are tons and tons of different types. Some resort work, like yukon pointed out, is very ganja-friendly, but besides guiding, I also work in wilderness therapy. Because we deal with a lot of substance abuse, my bosses (and the state...) are real strict on us, meaning random drug screens. But its my dream job...so I'll sacrifice for it.

The only problem I would like to bring up with starting your own business (as some have suggested) is that you need your contractor's license to do so. It's not hard to get but it's not as easy as walking up to a potential customer, telling them what you do, and them handing you money to do it. some bullshit education in the field you want to go into helps too. for example, if you're going to do landscaping work for a commercial company, find some bullshit class online that has something with "landscaping" in the title. Even if it's a cheapo class, it does wonders on a resume. :2cents:

Right now I make good money doing maintenance work on machines at a gas station, but I'm gonna go to school to become an electrician.

Well thankfully we don't have piss tests here in the UK...yet :fsu:

You mean I should go for the direct approach Legion?
As in go to the business when they open and ask to speak to the manager and talk about if they have any jobs and give them my CV...rather than just show up and ask for an application form?

You bet dude.

I'm a lead hand / supervisor tool & die maker on a 5pm - 5am shift. I have been working at my job now for about 7 years. Before this job. I worked at a pizza shop in the mall doing dishes and eventually making pizzas. I got that job by just going and dropping off resumes and asking if they were highering. I got the manager and he hired me on the spot. Lucky me I guess eh? Or was it because I was dressed respectfully and showed the manager as much respect as I could.

My current job. I was offered an apprenticeship program when I was in grade 10 machine shop. Our whole class was offered that program. Those of us who took it spent the second half (2 classes) in our second semister at college (trades school). While at college in the afternoon we got high school credits. Then that summer we were given placements (jobs) to work at. These were machine shops, mold shops, and tool & die shops. I ended up at a very small tool & die shop. After the summer was over I went back to school. Spent the entire second semister at college and recieve high school credits for that too thus graduateing. After that I called my summer placement up and they told me to come back to work.

Since then I'm now a supervisor. I got very lucky to have such a program offered to me while still in high school. Most people now I see come into our shop finish up high shcool then goto college afterwards and pay quite a bit of money todo so. Those guys usually have a good chance at finding a job at a machine shop and with time end up doing pretty good. I also see alot of people come in off the street we no experiece and do just as good if not better.

One thing I have always learned (and I still have alot of learning todo trust me) is to work hard. Always. Empolyers love it when you bust your ass. Even if you screw up. If your out there sweating your ass then your doing a good job. You need to take your job seriously too. Yet have fun at the same time. You need to be dedicated to your job and you need to love what you do. Even though it can be stressful at times.

whoa this is good bud.. Totally rambling on off topic here. What I'm trying to get to is. If a kid walked into my shop and asked if we were hiring. I'd talk him a bit. Try to see what kind person they are. What kind of work are they willing todo (should be willing to anything that needs to be done is the best anwser). What kind of work have they done before. Then I'd take there resume and shake their hand.

I know it may suck. But work lots of overtime if the work is there and they could use the help. Overtime shows dedication. Show them that you want to be there. I personally don't think drugs should be anywhere near the workplace. There is a time and place for drug use. At work is not the place for it. I feel very strongly about that. Beside drugs and machinery just don't mix. Landscaping and stuff I can see though. If you dealt with customers on a regular basis though I would not suggest it then.

Sorry for the life story. Good luck finding a job.

Yukon.

Thats an awesome job man. I totally know where your coming from. I grew up on the east coast of Newfoundland. I have alot of family in the fishing idustry and even have some family out on Hibernia (oil rig).

Peace

I feel ya bro. I got fired from my last job December 05 and just got a new job at the begining of this month. Now Monday through friday I wake up at 6:30, work from 7/7:30 to 4:30/5:30ish. Yesterday was 7am to 5:30, least I will have some nice overtime. Getting up every morning kinda sucks because I used to sleep in till noon everyday and just smoke all day long but now I need money and what not so I have become another drone for the system oh well.

Yes, if it's the job you really want. It's not going to find you. And if they can't help you that time. Keep showing up here and there. Untill they do.

***This is for the person why though they should give me a 'comment' in my rep about how this is a stupid idea.***

I showed up at a job once after 1 day off to find my co-worker sweating bullets. He screwed up the day before to the tune of about 600 bucks.. This wasn't the first time either. Also the day before someone walked in and was looking for work ASAP. That's all it took. He was fired THAT DAY and the other was hired.

That is how it works in the real world.

I just got my first job since May yesterday. I did HVAC for about a year previously, quit that job after my boss tryign to fuck me out of a G. Then I couldn't find work ANYWHERE. My county has the lowest unemployment rate ever presently. I did nothing but sit around and smoke herb.

Anyways, started framing. Bitchwork, to the fullest. Probably the most physically demanding job I've had yet. Worked my ASS off all day yesterday to make a good first impression, and my boss appreciated it. But this morning, my right hand was swollen to the point where I couldn't get my ring off of my finger, and it usually comes right off. Every muscle and tendon in my body hurts. My boss noticed that I was slacking and grimacing everytime I raised the hammer, and told me to take the day to recooperate. Nice guy.

I guess I like it because it will get my ass back into shape, but going from doing NOTHING to doing 10 straight hours of hard labor is a fucking wake up call for sure.

I can't smoke herb on the job... yet, anyways. The other guy I work with looks like he'd puff, and my boss is way chill and was talking about his college days getting hammered and getting blazed, so who knows. I don't really know if I'd like to get ripped while doing what I'm doing, but I'd sure give it a shot if given the chance.

I fucking miss HVAC though. :fsu:

I'm really not into hard labour jobs...it just gets too much for me and I end up quitting. The jobs I've had in the past have mostly been packing/warehouse jobs where you are moving boxes and pallets around all day...by the end of the first week my wrists would be clicking from soreness and all my joints would feel hammered.
I'm just not used to walking around all day and putting strain on my body like that.
Probably due to the fact that I do basically nothing all day apart from sit at my computer and smoke weed...although I do enjoy the occasional walk and wander through the forest with my dog.
I'm not fat or skinny or anything...just quite unhealthy.

Sounds like me and you are in the same exact boat brother. Except I really need cheddar and hard labor is the only thing I can find.
