Woa! Check out S&P's pimptacular new TD-SILENT series of fans!

High flow, High pressure AND low noise!? Its as if S&P has designed this new series of fans specifically for us cannabis gardeners!

Hey all!

I have been a major proponent of Solar & Palau MIXVENT fans for many years now. The S&P MIXVENT series is a unique in-line fan design that combines the high flow characteristics of an axial fan with the strong pressure characteristics of a centrifugal 'can'-fan. When compared to can-fans the MIXVENT fans will move more CFMs at the same power level while sacrificing very little in the way of pressure drop. They are also much more compact than fat, bulky can-fans.

These fans are very durable and can be speed-controlled with the right dial unit. I have used the 4" TD-100x, the 6" TD-150, the 8" TD-200 and recently got to play with the gob-smacking 10" TD-250. My 6" unit has run for more than 8000 hours and still works like the day I bought it. They are also very competitively priced with an 8" unit costing $157 from my buddies at HVACquick.com.

you can SEE here the amount of power that CANN fans use. the 10-12", the most popular ones and most bought, use MORE power then the 14-16" fans...
the 10 and 12" are the SUPER LOUD ones, that we ALL hate and DONT want to use....

the fans the OP is showing us, does not have that power curve, therefor i believe they may IN FACT, be a lot quieter...

While I too would like to see these in action comparing them to a centrifugal fan isn't right. I own two of the 4" older style and although they are very reliable (2 years no issues) they just simply don't move air like the centrifugal's. I use mine to run my 4" Phresh filter and thats all. If you're looking to remove heat from a small area these aren't the solution IMO.

Ok, looking at the 12" model compared to the Can 12" model...the Can Fan uses 30 more watts ($2-$3 per month) BUT, has at least 200CFM over the S&P over the WHOLE PRESSURE GRAPH. I would trade 30 more watts for 200 CFM and higher max pressure any day of the week. This goes the same for the rest of the line too, yes they use less watts but at a huge sacrifice of pressure capability, to the point of being useless for any scrubbing application. Yes, they might be quiet, but I think S&P sacrificed way too much efficiency to get them that quiet.

Figured I would edit in, I was using the 12" Can-Fan as the comparison above. If you were talking about the MAX-Fan....alright, it uses 100 watts more, but again, it more than DOUBLES the S&P's CFM's at all pressure ratings, and kills it in Max. pressure. Again, I'm all for quiet fans, and the bigger S&P's could be used for scrubbing, but the performance just isn't there.

In the span of a year and a half a td150 used as a simple intake fan died and was replaced.
The seams/seal bands NEVER sealed completely on either unit, always needed tape. When the SECOND td 150 broke I bought a td 200. It leaked from the seams. I sold it and bought a blower and ditched the 200 to a friend.

Completely unimpressed by the build quality. And to be honest, I never felt it was that quiet.

Your mileage may vary

Interesting to hear your experiences with them George, it's the first I've heard of them failing yet. These have been available in the UK for a while now, and seem to be quite popular for their quiet running. I've been considering them myself actually. You mention that the seal isn't that great and complain of leaking smells, which I have heard a few UK users mention, though someone found that the solution was to connect the ducting to the inner sleeve and not the cradle, which apparently solved this issue. I was also worried about them not having the same capacity for moving air under pressure, but theherbalizor uses an 8 inch TD silent to clear a 5x5 tent with 1500W pulling through a filter and has no issues. roll it large also has been using them and seems happy with them. You guys could ask around the UK forums for some feedback. they are mentioned on this page for a start: https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=224834&page=4

I heard only good reviews here in Europe, though most people seem to scrap/ cut off the factory seal bands and do it the old way.

Isn't it the case, that was one super awesome looking hightech, cutting edge, almost went out and bought one but glad I didn't fail.

Such a cool looking piece of plastic injected molded spinny thing...

I really dislike a let down like that, like a Like a Porsche 928, woo you got a Porsche oh ya man it's sweet. It's really good on gas and it has a four cylinder for some reason or another.

I was on the hook for a while there.

I have an 8inch and 6inch in one of my grow rooms. I've got acoustic ducting on them and run them at just over half speed, setup like this they're basically completely silent.

Right! I use the 5" 125 previous model. Useless without a muffler. I could hear it up to 75 feet away.

After proper dampening I can hear it only if I listen for it, say 2 feet.

I should note that static pressure is limited with this fan, I use it in a dual box set up approx 20 cubic feet. Works for me.

Damn glory..u cant here it unless 2 ft away? Plz send me pm or something what exactly u used to silence it further. I need that kinda quiet. Thx

I am using the TD100 in my super-stealth grow box and you cannot hear the fan running from a distance of 3 feet because I switched over to insulated ducts. Insulated ducts make all the difference - that and a duct fan muffler. ;)

There is a fan down in there!

Nice. So would the fan and muffler go in my tent or just outside tent? Last spot i only needed 2 4" axial fans i never needed a big exhaust. Im goin to still use the 2 4" axials in top of tent along with the 6" s and p. With 26 inches of passive intakes..5 4" and 1 6". Thats how i did last time with just.axials just not as many intakes..

Damn bro..just read ur muffler build..nice job. Nice info. Plz explain to me how u think i should use s and p..inside or out..muffler where..etc..etc. i appreciate it. I need my shit near silent. Tent in garage near wall. Exhausting s and p out tent with duct through wall outside. Thx again.

Wow indeed - thanks for the heads up! Looks like they have their own built-in duct silencer unit (the rows of holes) at the exhaust side (?) Pretty cool, because I'm looking for an extremely quiet fan setup.

The little holes arrangement is called baffles... they are used in any type of muffler or silencer from car exhaust to guns.

Just had to bump the thread to point out these dans to poeople they are now in stock and i am interested in getting a 4 inch model for my can 33 i use a 4 inch s&p 137 cfm fan this thing is actually quieter and more cfm so its a no brainer time to upgrade, though i might just build a muffler with 6" duct and foam and neck it down to a 4" to fit my fan...

Also i own some isulated duct the can duct stuff works good helps with sound should be great with the silent fan

I prefer to oversize the filter.

Compare the S+P model static pressure charts to other fans.

They are quieter for a reason. And considering the industries love with flex ducting, a waste of time.

Can-Fan has a new line, pricey, but they look well built. A quieter line and a muffler/fan chimera. And cool little pins.

The store told me that can had a "Q line"

I think I would prefer the s and p

In my situation in attached housing with my grow room beside a neighbours room, silent fan for filter is a good idea

Rubber straps, fan boxes, hard ducting, insulation, dampening points of contact.

All things (and more) I would do before buying a fan with mediocre reviews.
