Mala Tempora you had to do what???

the sooner you get used to Linux the better, M$ days are numbered, Google/IBM/Oracle see it, why not you?

Im sure if you really had a valid problem its been fixed in the latest version Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic Koala"

Ubuntu is so easy and unaffected by virii...its a no brainer

If you run a M$ OS you can bet your infected with something malicious, whether you see a performance difference or not, doesnt matter if you have a firewall, AV, whatever, aslong as you surf on it your bound to pick something up

any problem you have on ubuntu is easily solveable by doing google search....

can windows7 do this?

Running Windows 7 now, install was cleaner and faster than any previous Windows OS install. Everything works, surprisingly no headaches, well worth $30 IMO.

The massive market share that Windows already has and the fact that Windows is far more user-friendly and intuitive than Linux is enough for businesses (which are a massive chunk of the market) to stay away from Linux and use a fully supported, reliable, practical operating system. Most laymen users don't want to have to go through the terminal and use various commands just to install a simple program when they can just double-click an installation executable and be done with it. Most people don't want the problems I had with Linux either (having to install a driver just to stop my monitor from displaying fuzzy lines, having to scour the internet for a driver for my wireless, etc.). The only area that I see Linux completely dominating in the future is the server market.

I ran a Linux box for 12 yrs. The platform was so stable, that one with old age forgets/got how he got there. Unless you are running everything from the command screen (which the purest do), one forgets.

MOst stable Win platforms were 5 and XP. Those aren't availabvle so I'm running Win7, screw 10!
