Most people are totally incapable of any original thoughts and they are the "worker bees" but of course not only mexicans, everyone. Most people should be happy that some go out of their way to achieve success and establish industry or trade that leads to employment. But my point would be at the very least, you must factor in all costs of materials and labor and incidentals. Then an appropriate pay for the skilled master gardners.. . Because "Quality comes ONLY from the personal connection of skilled growers." The best of the best indoor/greenhouse grown medicinal grade would be minimum $50 per ounce. I mean goddamn dude what about trimming the shit? It takes 4-8 hours per pound to trim pot and machines will NEVER be able to do a connoiseur grade trimming job! Americans have forgotten what a real wage was, it must pay enough for housing and food and living costs as well as savings/entertainment/personal things. At the end user stage it should be subsidized by insurance I agree.
Just saw that greyskull actually put in some numbers and gave us a real world figure to work with. I think I know my shit now point proven.
You guys are missing the point.
The only reason someone would get $40/hr is because it's illegal.
How do I know this? Because I have worked in the "legit" (for lack of a better term) horticultural industry for the last 22 years and I know all kinds of growers from Dracaenas to orchids and NONE of the laborers get paid anywhere near $40/hr.
The all make under $20/hr (a lot under $10/hr) and they have the best quality in the world at what they do.
Most indoor plants you buy at Home Depot are grown in Hawaii and though it's not illegal mexicans growing them it's poor Hawaiians (same difference).
