Why are some strains harder to clone than others?

I understand how you're feeling regarding cloning bud. I'm older than the dirt I grow my weed in, so I've watched the changes. We used to get pot from Mexico, Columbia, Panama, hash from Morocco, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and it was good contrary to what the kids say (how do they know, they weren't even born yet?) The pot usually had a ton of seeds in it. Good smoke, bud seed city, in fact we tossed most of the seeds. Nowadays, it's $10 for a good seed, so I really don't mind spending ten bucks for 5 to 8 ounces of dry bud. Cloning is nice, but like you mentioned in your post, some strains are near impossible to get rooting as a clone. I started getting pretty successful at cloning a couple different strains, until I tried cloning Apple Betty...a sativa dominant hybrid...I popped 4 out of 4 seeds...one seedling died from damping, so 3 out of 4 ain't bad. Very strong plants by seed but the clones are sad. I successfully cloned two...two out of many, probably 18 clones, only two were OK, not good...I put them outside, one is not real bad and the other looks dead for some reason, all droopy and a few fan leaves are yellow...not sure what the deal is with Apple Betty clones...maybe I'll just splurge the 7 or 8 bucks per seed I spent on a healthy plant by seed. A plant by seed is a stronger and more productive plant in my opinion.

It's just like GoldieLocks and the the three bears...not too wet, not too dry, not too hot, not too cold...just right for baby bud. lol
