Who's going guerrilla this year?

love the huglekulture bed. i got high hopes for mine as well next year. the 2nd year is when they suppose to perform at their best from what i have read. its suppose to be self watering and self feeding.

Yep!

Biology multiplies by the year, as with every living soil system out there. It's a risky move in a way when you're in the bush, because sometimes these locations get compromised in the first season. This patch has seen 3 years in a row without disturbance though, so I figured we could get away with it and put the effort in for the Hugie bed.

p.s. - Thanks again for helping me get my account back brother. I seriously owe ya one! :thank you:

A fishing boat we use with poles as an alibi to access remote land behind a lake

I just wanted to bring up an important topic before diving into flowering this season, and that's our excuse for being in a said area (typically uninvited). This is make or break in my eyes, because the first time you're spotted by a civilian without a valid "role" (fisherman, hiker, photographer, kayaker, bird watcher, etc) you're location is compromised.

ALWAYS PLAY THE PART WELL

picture.php

Are you frequenting a nature preserve? Good! Grab the goggles, your camera and a bird watching hat and maybe even a bird watching book with pages bookmarked. It also wouldn't hurt to take some decent photos to keep on a memory card that remains in the camera, so you can easily switch it out with your other memory card that you shoot plant shots with.

picture.php

Or if you're patch is bordering a swamp behind a lake per say, remember to bring your poles and take a fishing boat out there so you're not seen as an outcast. Shoot the shit with the locals if you can be cool enough, and always stick with your story. After a while things become natural and you really begin to relax, which allows you to play your roles better as well.

This railroad is a great hauling route, but is seldom taken during the day time because there is simply no alibi for us to have here without looking out of place.
Instead, we park at a nearby nature preserve with cameras in hand, and exit the end of the preserve where we bushwack our way to the tracks. After a short walk we dip off into the swamp and hike another mile to our patch. The nature preserve gets us to the tracks without having to pass through civilization, and is probably the reason this site has been undisturbed for 3 years straight.

The only way one can be connected to a site is through the actions of watering, transplanting, and harvesting the crop. 50% of the time if an officer gets word of a grow under 50 plants, they simply chop the crop down and leave their business card along with a few smart ass flowers in your existing holes. The other 50% of the time, and usually when the plant count is reaching the 100x mark they will set up cameras in attempts to capture your face.

The simple solution here is to just cover your face somehow, at all times. For example we'll boat past civilians with our fishing boat looking the part, and as soon as we're far enough away from civilization we'll put our masks on. They will never wait for you out in the bush for weeks at a time, praying they can catch you out there in person, it just doesn't happen. The only time you have to worry about boots on the ground is if you're camping near or at your outdoor site. So unless you're one of those guys, detection can be easily avoided if the proper precautionary steps are taken.

What does everyone else use as an alibi? Any interesting ones out there?

That'd be a good idea! Maybe if I upgrade it next year I'll do something like that, I'm thinking about welding a cart out of aluminum so it's a little more sturdy. If I did that it could support the load plus me on the back I bet...

Well we visited our set & forget patch down south yesterday, and I'm proud to say that despite the lack of attention for 4 weeks after the initial transplant that the crop is doing decent. This is our "late crop", so this patch won't be as productive as our other 3 patches but it was a good place to stick what we had left in the stable so to speak...

Everything is looking well fed and have minimal to no pest damage as of yet. It looks like the top dress kit we used (cc kit) helped raise functional immunity to the point of making these plants blend in with the background rather than being a bright neon sign for a pest diner. However, the patch on the middle island got chewed up by some kind of animal, and we lost most of those - probably 10/40 cuts, so now we're down to 30. The remaining 3 beds remained unharmed.

that's better! I would never read this without the photos.

I'm using logging duff and topsoil scrapings to amend my heavy swamp soil creating a Hugel style grow. packed in a small amount of manure, EWC, and typical supersoil amendments.

using forest scrap is a great way to feed your girls.
leaf litter and sticks as well as everything you find in the washes from spring floods can be used to lighten the nutrient rich silty swamp soil.
no need to buy anything, it's underfoot.

who needs bamboo stakes when you have dead Hemlock to anchor your ECSD?

about 6 foot before I trained it.

after it's about 7 feet wide, was an old beat mom put to good use.

Oh fuck yeah bud, those are healthy as can be! :woohoo:

I love the placement of those plants, I bet that soil is pretty loamy under that widow maker eh?

Do you ever have issues with mold using those branches as stakes? I would love to be able to collect native wood like that rather than hauling in more bamboo stakes...

Also, how big were your girls when you hauled them out? It looks like they were in a 5-10 gal pot before being transplanted into the ground. Just curious how you were able to bring such big plants out into the bush.

Great thread. You didn't mention lime TM. Doesn't swamp water tend to be more acidic?
I have a swamp near me. I had a couple plants out there five yrs ago. I used 32 gal trash barrels with two 8" holes cut out of the bottom. I put one brick of Botanicare coco in and a bag of Ocean Forest on top of that. This was before smart pots.
The weed was fantastic ( ecsd cut) but didn't get that big. I think I didn't water it enough in the beginning. No taproot made it into the swamp AND my ph was off. How much lime do you use?

Thanks!

We use oyster shell flour instead of lime since the calcium to magnesium ratio is more ideal (it's actually on point) - 10:1

Dol Lime is 2:1 - way too much magnesium
