Im a bit surprised by this thread. More so, that the people on here arent more familiar. Admittedly, I am not personally experienced. My best friend was doing this at least 5 years ago, at one point this was his sole method of propagation. And he said it was more consistent with NO genetic drift OR possibility of transferring pests or virus. He had previously had some problem like PM or something and this is how he "saved" his genetics. He showed me his TC setup and clones many times and also explained(in quite depth!) how he made his little "sterile"box and the entire process. However his affinity for smoking lots of blunts(and the fact we were in a warehouse that he was living as well as growing in) had my attention span shorter than the required amount to take in something like TC. He is NOT a rocket scientist (although does have a small BHO lab !) but he did have it locked in and said he got to the point were he never lost a "plantlet".

Aww I hope this thread doesn't die. As I think about it More and more not transfering pests or diseases is brilliant. And therefore it might be practical to be well versed in it in case something like that does happen, you don't lose genetics. Plus if I remember correctly it only takes like a leaf so its a little less stressfull on mother's and seems viable for later flower saving of genetics which for most people the only option is a reveg which has mixed results. I'm thinking about doing it just for fun and still doing my aerocloners for crop production and sometimes for friends

You guys can keep talk about this if you want.. I got my answer. For me it's not worth the time and $$$ to get it working properly and keep it working properly.. So I'm out.

I was wondering why dark heart nursery was planning on using tissue culture on a large scale, i mean how can that benefit them?

^ I was wondering the same thing. I think it has something to do with the fact that they could take so much more clones from a mother plant with this method... It would certainly help them keep up with demand.

Maybe they are a little worried about their plant count, and want to keep their numbers the same or lower, if so, tissue culture makes a lot of sense.

I have wondered for a while what kind of legal paperwork they have... I would love to rent a ware house and sell clones in the spring.

I think we will see more of this in future as the big companies take over, especially in California with it's new legislation... but that's another discussion for another place. Thank you for all the comments about this!

I asked Shantibaba several years ago about tissue culture and seed embryos and what he thought...
"There is a place for all lines of work. The problem is the technology and the time it takes to get things established, if these are no issue then it already exists. As for establishing gene banks it is a perfect alternative to seed or living clone and a lot smaller and easier in spatial features to do, so it will have a place in cannabis future for sure. I do not know if you were aware our original company in Switzerland was named Gene Bank Technology ...not by coincidence.?"
