Who invented Dank

When was the first time you heard the term "dank"?

For me the earliest was around '92 in Oklahoma and Norcal. The word had meaning back then. Now it's been co-opted by kids who get higher looking at buds than they do smelling them.

The only reason I remember it being that early is because the local cheerleaders/sports teams adopted a booty bass song from Miami, with the term 'dank' in the lyrics and I assumed no one in suburban America knew what it meant.

Was "dank" used in the 80s? Was it imported from Florida to California and then the rest of the country?

I first heard it on David Letterman Show. It came out of the mouth of "Manny the Hippie". And Dave spent a lot of time asking Manny, 'Is this Dank or is it Schwag'? I had never heard it before, but then again, I live in the Midwest.

I can push the date back a bit. In the 80s the Deadheads I knew who were older than me called really nice weed by two names, "Kind" if it was strong and gentle and "Dank" if it was strong and debilitating. "Dank" at that time, to me as a novice eager to learn, seemed also about the musty, rotten, sour smells, but these again were associated with the buds that would put you on the Couch.

Don't know when or where the term began being used to describe cannabis.

Personally, "dank" has always described the smell of a dark, damp, rank smelling basement.

So, when I hear the term "dank weed", I figure it's aroma is similar to said basement.

I first heard it from my mom referring to damp basements also. The first time I heard it related to weed was in 94 at some dead shows in Oakland. I bought some dank humboldt nugs off a random parking lot weed salesman.
