Which books to get started growing?

The one and only cultivation book I ever bought was Mountain Girl's Primo Plant: Growing Sinsemilla Marijuana, in the mid seventies. Wish I still had it, for nostalgia's sake .

when i started growing, i found all of the material ive needed on the forums.

ive read a ton of grow books too (all the big ones and lot of the "smaller" ones)and seen alot of growvideos.

but ive found the forums to be more helpful.

though i did find them first and mayhaps thats the distinction, those who favor some book over forums, do so because that particular book was the start of growing good for them? (found the forums later?)

I really think that most growers would do well to learn some basic botany. The grow books are really 'dumbed down' quite a bit. Some make things more confusing, some less so, but none go into depth about how plants work and why they need what they need to grow well. While this site is great and full of knowledge, it's hard to navigate for a beginner. One has to to be able to judge what's true and good information and what's BS. You can't do that without some kind of basic theoretical knowledge of how plants grow.

I also picked up Cervantes' Marijuana horticulture growers bible. I found it useful in getting the basics and it's good to have as a quick reference for some things. Plus, it's easy to ready while on the shitter, lol. However I agree, it doesn't cover a lot it should or could. After reading something, I'd often go straight from the bathroom to the computer and get on here to look it up further, to read people's real and different experiences. That's helped me learn more than anything. But I do recommend that one book at least, if for nothing else, to read while taking a dump, lol.

The only grow book I read, when I first started growing was sufficient to outline the subjects I needed to study. As far as the information in it, I laugh at it today.

Those topics that book cemented in my head were fleshed out from posters on CW and OG... and now ICmag.

I've since gone back and read just about every book published on cannabis and have to say.... bleah! I'm glad I didn't learn to grow that way. Now.... the TIME I've spent learning what I know, over the past 10 years, is substantial and has nearly cost my marriage at least twice. LOL Most folks don't have the time, nor the inclination, to sift through all the bullshit to find the true nuggets of information.

Books are good for what they are... I really feel for those that don't have the time to data-mine the internet for what they need though. (At least in Colorado you can hire me! LOL)
