Grow Bible by G.Green

Thanks for all the information everybody. I'm still interested in high pressure aero, but leaning towards a vertical setup similar to Bobblehead's, I'll post some more questions..

That Greg Green Grow Bible is full of misinformation...

it might be, I haven't really flipped through it

but so is this whole site.. half the problem is someone saying info that works for them or suits there particular system they have going, second is people reading info and not doing it, and then passing it on

take cloning for example. take a poll on what method works for people, and you'll see most people have a hard time cloning first, second only use 1 method, third can't explain why there method works, and fourth can't clone successfully with any other method.. the truth is all methods can work or fail...

growing in basis should be really simple. you water your plant and feed it nutrients... then why do so many have problems growing a plant?

because more then anything growing is a feel, a rhythm you come to learn and understand, which yes this site and a book cannot teach you fully, they can only tell you where to begin...

anyways, still, to a beginner, a book is very organized for them to build a basis where to start. I think alot of people are confusing there current state with a beginner knowing nothing. a beginner needs somewhere to begin, and a book can fill that gap, this site can also, but as I mentioned earlier, can you take this site with you, can you get on this site without power? can you take this site to your nightstand? can you open this site on lunch break???

books have a place, they always have, and always will.

:yeahthats

we do forget how little we knew when we started out...... a good book can at least give you the ability to spot bullshit when you read it on the net.
it has been a long time since i picked up one of the "grow books" (unless i was sitting in the smallest room in the house)...... but i could never throw one away.

we do forget how little we knew when we started out......

true story..

first book I ever bought was mel thomas cannabis cultivator. I believe that was his book ( the one that has black cover and green outline )

anyways, when I first started reading that book, I remember the nutrient section.. it was so confusing. I was like blood what? bone what? NPK what? I was so confuse dhow to feed a plant the nutrients it needs / wants.

maybe I'm just a slow learner, but years later I'm mixing up my own nutrient recipe for coco fiber with nutes no one really uses yet ( floraduo )

I guess what's amazing is when you look at how far you've come at this point in your life... I don't like to think ahead, but man, what I might know know, I might know 10X times in the future, and will be looking back on this day saying, man you thought you knew alot then did ya?

the drive for knowledge is the main key, no matter from this site, a book, a friend, a neighbor... the want is all it takes to turn into knowing... this site did take what I learned to a whole other level, and it's because of people wanting to spread knowledge to to others so they can grow , is the whole magic and key to this site...

have fun

Mel Thomas has a grow bible that I really like. There are other non cannabis specific books that will give you a better understanding of plant biology which helps a lot more than a weed growin book.. It's a great question that you are looking for a book as most people these days don't believe they should with all this great info on the internet

If you go to hydrofarm.com & check out their grow books, and vids. most hydro shops can get them if they don't stock them.

thats funny, I'm not a huge Jorge fan myself. I just found out that my "Indoor Cannabis Cultivation" by Mel Thomas is now $277!!! (albeit worth every penny)

I love (not) how all the people saying "you don't need books" are experienced growers, not beginners.

I don't see how anyone can "read a web site" the way one reads a book. You don't read a book by thumbing through the index for an interesting topic unless it's PURELY a reference work. Of the dozen or so books we've got so far, only two authors knew what a reference work is supposed to look like:

"The Medicinal Uses of Cannabis and Cannabinoids" (Guy, Whittle, Robson; Pharmaceutical Press, 2004)

"Marijuana Chemistry: Genetics, Processing, & Potency" (Starks, Ronin Publishing, 1977, 1990) - somewhat less so.

And I don't see why anyone would prefer to learn through avoidable mistakes because they didn't learn the basics first. I'd rather skip those mistakes entirely. IMO, you can do that more quickly be learning said basics in one fell swoop than by extracting it one step at a time from advisers, and then requiring hand-holding anyhow because you got a simple answer to your question, but no background, so no deep understanding follows.

The collective wisdom here @ ICmag is awesome, but it's all spread through the complex lacework of a typical vBulletin-driven forum site.

Forums != books. Not better. Not worse. Different. Both have their place. Neither is a substitute for the other.

I have to admit that I don't really understand non-book-lovers. Most of the people I know don't read very much. Do they find it difficult or something? Maybe they read slowly and it takes too much time? Or maybe that time is spent in front of the idiot box or partying, I dunno.

I came in with the same question as the OP, and the replies just made me sad.

Further, whenever experienced growers talk about the big three (apparently) authors, nobody agrees!

"Cervantes' books are must-haves."
"Cervantes is an idiot."
and so on.

Any reasonably literate person should be able to absorb an entire book in the time it would take to ask (and then wait for the answers to) a dozen questions on an online forum, and I should think a book capable of answering quite a lot more than a dozen questions.

But let me set aside ALL OF THAT for a moment to cut to my point:

A newb asks the collective for a bowl of soup and gets hit in the mouth with a bale of hay. That's not only unhelpful, it's disrespectful.

Ya really don't need any books ,just the site. But if ya decide to go hydro some books might help out alot.Ive got most of them in ebook with images ,for free download.Just go to my profile page for login and password..I recommend ..The cervantes bible....but most of the info is basic stuff..,,,.the really good stuff ... Cannabis Botany ,,from Robert C Clark...And the books on hydroponics have some amazing setups made from basic household stuff..All good info nonetheless....

ran outta love

It's been said more than once already but I also recommend Cervantes' Marijuana Horticulture. Especially to get started but even for experienced growers as a reference book.
