Where does "cat piss" originate?

if i remember right, some other member posted in one of the haze/columbian threads, that they believe the catpiss/incense smell came from the colombian gold used in the original haze project, hence, most original haze and crosses (nevilles, skunkhaze, super silver haze, jack herrer, etc...) all contain incensy/catpiss phenos...

on the other hand, another old dude claims the catpiss comes from the northern lights #2 or one of the others from the original neville releases which were used in nevilles haze and other haze hybrids...

oddly enough, sensi seeds afghani#1 grown from 30 seeds 8 years ago had nearly a third of phenos sporting a sugar-incense/catpiss smell (which would add up to the northern lights story) BUT only god knows by now i guess

Still tryin to find cat-piss-smelling weed. around 2000 in Russia we have only 3 good strains of buds = skunk, white widow. both smells like ammonia..And later (around 2005) NYCD. Seems cargo with EU is OK

Iv come across the pissy smelling plants in many dif haze related lines jst like canna said.

So many times it seems to me that hazes (green haze not purples )hold mostly lemon and a super heavy pissy/incense smells!

So much so that I jst assumed the SoCal Catpiss was surly an early haze selection.

All the NL Iv tried over the years. None have been remotely funky. Frost bombs of sho. But not much funk.

My vote is for haze all the way.

I had a plant from a pack of fms c99 that stunk of cat pee. Hated it, it literally made my tent stink because the cat piss pheno smelled stronger than other plants.

When I used to make random cannabis crosses with my dad we on more thaqn one occasion encountered the cat piss/amonia stench at random in a cross... we'd discontinue those lines in lieu of the fruitiness we enjoyed but...looking back, I enjoy those kind of strains now.
One strain that always made pissy crosses was "amsterdam delight" by a company called homegrown fantaseeds. super hashy, peppery, almost spicy like A1 sauce... when crossed with something fruity, whala,,, piss fuel.
I remember specifically the amsterdam delight x cali orange bud making amonia stench fuely cat piss to the letter.

the "Cat Piss" smell is prevalent in many different types of strains. People's noses associate smells differently as well.

the most common is any kind of "pissy" smelling haze cross. this kinda stuff is really common in dutch haze/haze hybrids. SSH, etc all have hazy "pissy" smelling stuff in there.

The san diego cat piss is an indica leaning hybrid. Likely some kind "Kush" in there, this plant is reeky ammonia dank pissy funk. This one does not carry the "trademark" hazy pissy incense smell.

The Norcal Cat piss is a heavily indica dom plant (think squatter fatter than bubba) with an oddly sickly funky almost hazy, but misty dank pissy indica afghan funk. Very unique plant and excellent breeder.

Cougar's piss was made with the Norcal Cat piss is gifted to RD.

Pretty sure it comes out of some old Mexican commercial lines...you'll get some of them smells out growing out some good old mexi brick beans...also why it pops up in skunk strains being that they have a but of old Mexican in the line...and it will come out in just about anything once in a while since skunk1 was breed into nearly everything at some point.

If I had to guess I would say the same! I remember thinking about this question myself way back and I always thought to myself, MEXICAN, but could easily also be colombian genetics.
We used to get units from down south that were straight cat pissy! Seedy as fuck, Large buds, Reeked of cat piss but was some of the strongest stuff coming from that way at the time, so we kept puffing it. Tho the comment would always come up, "this smells like cat piss". Some ppl wouldnt smoke it thinking it was literally pissed on lmao.. I also distinctly remember this peppery stuff, wasnt nearly as good tho! Not for my pallate

when he made f2s of his Neville's haze he got alot of the cat piss phenos.
I've also seen bad curing processes make cannabis smell like ammonia.

That's odd, I got an air freshner of Sandlewood smell and I don't smell catpiss.

Nail varnish remover is a better explanation of the Catpiss trait in ssh. It was a very nice part of haze hybrids back in pre 2001 greenhouse stuff. Unfortunately I haven't seen any haze hybrids display this trait since pre2001

Cat piss is 1 phenotype of super silver haze. I've heard of growers growing multiple seed packs just for the catpiss pheno. You will know when you have it. That stink is undeniable

Unknown strain, very close to the Trainwreck.
Probably a Skunk phenotype.
Do not mix it up with the "Catpiss" SSH pheno.
