Where does "cat piss" originate?

I had heard of strains smelling like "cat piss" but never encountered anything that I would describe as having that distinctive odor.

My current run includes Dinachem, Blue Widow, Critical + I made a mistake and almost killed all of them when they were seedlings. Ended up with 6. One of them stunk like cat piss.

When I was trying to save them I lost track of labeling and now can only guess which is which.

Bad news is that I killed the CP plant early in flowering. Transplanted too early and drowned her. Came in and she was completely wilted. Pot was heavy, coco soaked. Learned a lesson there.

Anyway, I managed to get 2 cuts before I flipped. They are going in next.

What I want to know:
Is the cat p odor a trait of a specific strain? A phenotype of something? Trying to figure out which strain it is.

I believe Dinachem is Chemdog X Guava Chem
Critical is Skunk X Big Bud
and I assume Blue Widow is Blueberry X White Widow.

I mean the strain(s) of cannabis that have an odor reminiscent of cat urine.

But I deserve the jokes. It was a lob.

I had a catpiss girl in 2002, seeds were passed to me. Guy I got them from said he thought it was from some SSH units out of SoCal 99-01. It looked real close to the socal catpiss cut even with upturned fan edges. My guess is it originates from a branch off of early skunks, but again just a guess.

Pretty sure it comes out of some old Mexican commercial lines...you'll get some of them smells out growing out some good old mexi brick beans...also why it pops up in skunk strains being that they have a but of old Mexican in the line...and it will come out in just about anything once in a while since skunk1 was breed into nearly everything at some point.

"Cat piss" has been around since the late 70's atleast

used to get buds that reeked like catpiss in the late seventies/early eighties off of some elderly fellows in middle tennessee. no name to it back then, just "catpiss"... wish i had a sack of that shit now.

About five years ago I had some Salmon Creek Big Buds drying in the garage. Came home on about day 3 and thought a mountain lion had broke in. Strong cougar piss smell.

ok so its not unique to one specific strain. Could be any one of the seeds I started with- They all eventually trace back to some indica/sativa cross.

ssh or what was said above, it can show up in a haze hybrid, i had a catpissy(not as intense as the cp clone) GhostTrainHaze#1...

I experienced cp for the first time in 99' and she was a well known cut that reeked! This was on the eastcoast...it was said she was found in a ssh from mr.nice or shanti or one of those originators. It was also called pop locally there, she got sent out to Colorado in 2000 i believe , haha i think with a guy that was on the run for bank robbery, but im sure she was around other places before that??

I remember smoke Cat piss in Utah in 1998-99, dont remember the flavor like ssh, or nevi's,,,, it was more like a acid skunk.
In that time u couldnt know the real name....

Yup super acrid skunk, but that done mean it didnt come from a freak pheno of ssh or nevi's...many strains throw phenos that taste and smell nothing like the majority of phenos that come from said strains
But who knows ,
