What's wrong with my plant?

I've got three plants going. Two freebies from seed, doing great, and a SD IBL clone, looking not so great. The buds are forming greatly, and I can't wait to smoke it, but all the fan leaves have fallen off and lots of the leaves close to the stem are starting to yellow and crinkle. The seed plants aren't getting any of this, and are on the same feeding plan.

15ml LK
15ml PBP
5ml CalMag+
6.1 PH (I tried a few PHs in the beginning and they all responded best to this, maybe that's changed in flower)

As you can see here, the other plants look better, but you can see the same kind of thing starting on the bottom leaves. Any ideas?

Needs some nitrogen

5ml LK
15ml PBP
5ml CalMag+

How much water are you using with all that?
How often too; your plant was consumed by nitrogen deficiency man; plants still need nitrogen in flowering but not a lot. Which you have no nitrogen; but the LK has some seaweed in it; how often are you feeding your plants? and what mixture of soil are you using?

I've been using that formula, per gallon, since veg. I'm just looking for a simple feeding plan, and I can see this didn't work so I need to make some changes. The plants did very well, obviously different strains need different things, and the SD was different.

My nute mix should be somewhere close to...
N - 90
P - 74
K - 174
Mg - 37
Ca - 85

My soil is a mix with FFOF, probably about 40-50% perlite, and some potting soil. It's pretty light, dries out in 3-5 days. I have high humidity so that makes it last a bit longer. The plants never begin to flag until almost a week after watering, but I didn't really let them go more than 4-6 days usually.

After looking at the guide to sick plants I think it looks more like a phosphorus def than nitrogen. Maybe it's both though.

What you are seeing is the necorisis left over from when the leaves died from the nitrogen issue; the color you see now is the color it changes after the plant has sucked every last bit from it.

Ok how much of each are you using? How many teapsoons table spoons per gallon of water?

N - 90
P - 74
K - 174
Mg - 37
Ca - 85

That is not going to tell me anything but that the mixture is not balanced enough.

are you using 15 ml per gallon of water of each????

How often are you feeding? Weekly? every watering? monthly? If you are using FFOF after transplanting or what you said above did you start to feed them soon after they were in the FFOF? If so you burned them and locked out nutrients.

Either way if you are using that mixture a lot or every watering you are locking out nutrients so I need to know how often are you using this mixture?

5ml = 1tsp
15ml = 1tbsp

I feed them every watering, which is when they dry out.

I let them feed off of the soil after transplant until they started to yellow, then started feeding. First at half strength, and the rest at full strength, at each watering.

I'm flushing now, so there's not anything to change, and the feeding plan worked very well for the other plants, so there's something to it.

I would like to know what went wrong with the SD though. Not enough N?

I'm not overwatering, I let the medium dry out quite a bit before watering. They flagged from being underwatered once, but just one time. I've got my watering frequency down.

Can you tell me anything more than the fact my mixture isn't balanced enough? I'd like to hear why it's not, and how it can be balanced out. Thanks for any help. :joint:

JUst a few comments....

Thats pretty much what I use....

15 pbp and 10 LK and now but never really use cal mag....

those generally come from the dolomitic lime I use....

and I use a higher ph.....

Im a believer that phosphorus def is not this obvious....
I dont actually think that phos def causes necrosis like here.....

more subtle like smaller weak plants.....

Ive been doing sick plants for some years and still couldnt tell you what one really looks like......

It looks most to me like potassium.......

But there is plenty in pbp????

If thats what it is the worst thing you can do is flush the plant.....

its about the only time flushing will hurt you......

I do not believe that the problem at the bottom of the one plant is related to the other plant......

Do you have any pics from a couple weeks back????

Its usually easier to diagnose earlier....

Pretty rare to see how differntly the plants are doing......

This was taken 30 days ago, and the one next to it is the most recent. :bashhead: :badday:

I've been using the Calmag because I've been watering with distilled water. I've got a small apartment and don't really have anywhere I can have a bucket of water bubbling to dechlorinate. Could that have anything to do with it?

Should I not flush? I was going to begin that tomorrow.

Pretty rare to see how differntly the plants are doing......
That's why I didn't change anything really, it does seem weird.

This is a tough one.....

I would never have guessed the two plants could be the same one.....

At an advanced state Mg and K look similar....

I do see a little ghosting in the earlier pics....(Mg def) and no signs of K def..... the ghosting isnt bad so thats not likely it either.....

I frequently dont do anything with a slight Mg def....

Its hard to believe its K because pure blend has very high levels of K.....

One thing from the earlier pics is all the large leaves have yellow tips....

Could be just too much chow..... FFOF is known for high levels of ferts....

Any pics between the two??? LOL

From what I see.... its an overfert issue....

No pics in between, I lost one of the batteries and didn't decide to buy more until yesterday. :badday:

If the plant were rootbound would that do this? The SD was vegged in a solo cup until had a good root mass, and then in a 2 liter until it had a solid root mass. Could it have taken over this 2 gallon container and suffered from it? This plant always had more roots then the seed plants, so that is a difference.
Unknown, Day 18, Unknown

You can see the progression there. I had problems start with the transplant from the solo cup to the 2 liter, it was almost straight FFOF and it held water for a very long time, I think I went 10 days without watering and the soil was still wet.

You can really see how much better it got after I broke up the rootball and planted it in a mix of half perlite and half FFOF, in the final container. It looked great between the final transplant and about three weeks ago, when it started to go downhill.

SInce Im on probation I dont have many posts left....

One good clue is the tips on the different plants....

the others show no tip burn.... the sd does at an early stage....

That suggests the ffof and problend may be too rich for it.....

Thats the progression I use too....

solo cups....2 liter....2 gallons.....

===================================================

Yes those necrotic spots high on the plant are a really bad sign that early......

But again they dont show signs of overfert.....

Its also hard to imagine 10 days in a 2 liter without needing water....

Its no wonder youve been scratching your head on this one...

Odd here is what I see....

In the 2 liter.... its a little chlorotic.... not looking that healthy....

Then you transplant to 2 gallons... the plant looks as you say much better....

but apparently about the time you started feeding it went downhill...

got some tip burn.....

still thinking the ffof and pbp was too much.....

Sorry, let me clarify. I was feeding it while it was in the solo cup. (Solo cup was just potting mix, no nutes.) When it was transplanted to the FFOF, I didn't feed it for a while, if at all while in the 2 liter. When I transplanted to the two gallon, with diluted FFOF, I did a plain watering the first time and then fed from then on. It looked great, while feeding, for the first probably 6 weeks of flower.

Maybe the dirt has just gotten too hot after feeding so much, but I definitely think you're right on the overfeeding being the main factor. If you look at the recent shots of my other plants, you can see the tips are slightly burnt, but just to the point of being noticeable. I think this is good, as it shows they're taking just as much as they can handle.

Thats about what I got out of it....

I purposely use a low fert soil so I dont get the overfert issues....

However If I were to see the tip burn like it got later....

I would skip the next feeding and monitor....

=========================================

By the way the pics were very helpful.....

Ive been thinking about buying the ibl.... I have an older version that I love....

Its pure lemon... no diesel taste at all......

Do you have the diesel taste????

What are the other lovely plants with the high calyx to leaf ratio???

I think I've got the lemon pheno, based on the way this plant grew, compared to other SD IBL grows I've seen. I haven't had the chance to smoke this yet, I'm pretty excited, so I can't really tell you much about the flavor.

The two other plants I've got going are Mountain High Mix Freebies, they've got some Deep Chunk in them, along with several other things. These had some serious sativa influence, they stretched like crazy. It looks like one is about a week ahead of the other, so I'll have one more stony than the other when I harvest.

Swing by my grow thread, there's lots more info on my setup there if you're interested.

florigen - Since you can't PM me, care to describe your nute schedule? Do you just use PBP and LK? Thanks for all the input on this, it's helped me see it in a different way.

Stitch, sorry bro, bad advice. Even if it was a Nitrogen deficiency, which it's not, that is what you want to have in the last stage of flower. Cannabis requires most of its Nitrogen during its vegetative phase. By the end of flowering, you want the N to be as low as possible. The leaves will yellow- it looks like they are losing their green, not burning to a shade of yellow, if that makes sense. This makes for a much tastier final product, in addition to more appropriately meeting the plant's requirements.

Bounty, this looks like an overfert issue. Different strains, or phenos of the same strain, often have different nute requirements. Generally speaking, Sativas tend to be lighter feeders, and Indicas heavier feeders, comparitively. The fact that the 2 freebies (same strain?) are fine and the SD has been overfed, would lead me to believe that the SD doesn't require as much in the way of Ferts.

Overall, this is not a big deal at all. Because it started getting worse towards the end, and you fert'd at every watering, we can assume that the soil has too many salts accumulated, creating this situation. The advice would be to flush, but you're there anyways. As long as you do a good job of that, the final product should be fine. Sorry for the late advice, hope it's not too tardy!
Stay Safe,

HuffAndPuff - Thanks a lot! :joint:

That's about what I thought, I misread overfert with a nitrogen def, I upped my PBP from 15ml to 20ml/gallon for one watering, and it didn't help so I brought it back down. Now I know better for my next grow, which is the overall goal here, so I'm happy.

Thanks again for the advice!

Any time, bro! I don't care if I grow a thousand crops, there's always going to be something to learn. Trust me, when the growing gets tough, the tough get growing. Take it easy, man.

this is true BUT in order to stop nitrogen deficienct plants in flower you have to give them small amounts of nitrogen; they a still need nitrogen in flowering huff.

Stop telling me bad advice; tou are the only one to do that; I have seen terrible advice you have given so before you point fingers bring the facts and proof!

He obviously had fert burn issues which was locking out nitrogen because he was not using mujch if any and with him burning his plants just made matters worse; his pictures cleanrly shows nitrogen problems along with other problems in most of his pictures.

Bounty....

What I use....

miracle grow organic garden soil
perlite
dolomitic lime
liquid Karma
pbp grow
pbp flower
calmag (rarely) but it sure fixed my tomato end blossom rot this summer.....

I use 2 large bags of garden soil and 1 large bag perlite(lowes)
its about a 50/50 mix

I use about 16 ounces of dolomite....

Thats my basic mix....

for small plants.... 10 mg pbp grow.... 5 lk
medium .... 15 and 10
last 2 weeks.... 20 and 10

I start flower ferts about 10 days into 12-12

This works for me and....

I will let the rookies do all the harder stuff.....

I love experiencing my troubles vicariously.....
