it was .66 euro to the $ so Blue V is very correct. I will be changing some greenbacks for euro's here soon as I normally do. Banks can get you some if you ask ahead and its a better deal. Credit cards can be used there however and it is automatically converted so that is no problem. BOG

Cash can also be obtained using your credit card at easy to find atm's all over Amsterdam. It is a shopping mecca of the planet you know. That's were we do all our shopping when here. :alien:

Thers are money changers everywhere and they all offer different exchange rates, be careful of them.
Also if weather permits rent bicycles to get around, taxis are expensive and love to take advantage of tourists, on my last trip it took over a 1/2 hour in the taxi and a 25 euro bill to get from my hotel to Somas home, after enjoying superhuman amounts of Master Somas hospitality I then walked/floated back to my hotel in 10 minutes as it was only 2 blocks away....

And beware the bridge trolls....
BOG, I'm sure you can tell some horror stories of those little critters.....

I keep telling people..don't use a cab. Get yourself a map or ask for directions to where you must go. Everything in the centre of Amsterdam is in walking distance. Usually April in A'dam is very sunny so you might enjoy the walk. You could also buy a blue fare ticket (blue=adults, pink=for kids) and pay 6,90 (euros) you'll probably can only use it 7 times, provided you only travel within the one zone area. Or even better get a one (or 3 day) travelcard. For unlimited travel.Don't use you creditcard at the atm machines. they charge almost 5 euros per time. I only use mine for paying for stuff or emergencies. Just use your regular atm card. But be aware that you know the conversion right..especially for americans (since the dollar really is going up and down as to the euro). So that you don't withdraw more money that you intended to!!
If this is your first time to Amsterdam..then before you leave check on the internet for maps or more information about the area you stay in. You can see what trams and other public trasportation goes near your neighbourhood. You can also stipulate a plan about how far you need to walk or what your means of transport will be.. And calculate time and money to how much it will cost to get to some of the place you were planning to visit. If you know this in advance you will not loose precious time in Amsterdam wondering were the fuck you are and where you going to. If your stay is short (and it's always short if you don't live there right) you need preparations in order for you to exploit the little time you have to the maximum!!!

Yes a Amsterdam all travel passes are awesome. I got a 3 day pass at HTCC 2004 and was able to use it for 10 days there and never was denied entry onto a tram. They always checked the pass when i got on the trams and said the pass was fine. I think it was 13 Euros but can't remember forsure. Not sure if it would fly again but i might try. hehe. I hope to meet more dutchies this year. Tot Ziens

The public transit system is great in Amsterdam...
The bridge trolls are the people you're going to meet that pop out of nowhere offering you cocaine, heroin, and the $3.00 crack whores, they'll try to bring to to the "secret" shops "all the locals use" and show all the nasty tricks bridge trolls have, like stealing every last thing you have.....
Since you're going for the 420 show you'll mostly be going in groups, trolls don't like groups, but to the single traveler, watch out and if you do deal with a troll it's a 1 in 1000 chance you'll get what you pay for.....
The 'Dam is one of the greatest and most beautiful cities in the world, but the roses all have thorns.....
Happy times, smoke much and remember nothing.......

uh oh- pretty damn cold in A'Dam. We're already getting consistent 17 degree temps here in southern Europe, still need a fairly heavy jacket in Amsterdam.
