GroLux?

Sucks about the adapter though. Probably for a walk-in, they don't give you an adapter unless you specify that you need it? Whereas with online, they don't know so they just throw one in, just in case? If you have a receipt, I'd go back with a printed copy of the ad and ask them for one. Even if you don't need one now, who knows maybe in the future you might upgrade reflectors or something...

What's the deal with the purple units? I heard it has better RF shielding but anything else? Man...they hit the marketing bullseye with a purple case...I mean like LMAO.

Id like to add my experience w/ my 600 watt LumenAce ballasts (lime green) that I got from mdhydro a few months back. Ive been running a one of them on 24/0 solid for the last 3 months with no probs what so ever, one of my other ballasts, i have been running on 18/6 with no probs, no heat, no noise, just reliable operation without fail. They have a 4 yr warranty, although I have little idea how I would take the company up on the offer assuming I had a problem. Only problem with the LumenAce ballasts is that they are only 120v, and now that I need 240v ballasts these will soon become paperweights.

Speaking of MDHydro, Im still using their house brand 600w digis and I continue to be impressed with them. The only issue is that the 120v ballast gets a lot warmer than the 240v but I understand that is normal. The plants love them and the dimmer switch has come in handy on particularly hot days. Its nice to be able to crank them down to 400w whenever you need it.

Thats exactly right. Their 600w ballast has a dimmer knob on it so you can crank the wattage down as needed.

See the green knobs right next to the hanging power cords? Thats the dimmer switch and it does work.

I cant verify that it actually drops power usage, but I assume it does, and the bulbs actually do get dimmer so the knob works. Neat feature and this is the ONLY ballast Ive seen that does this.

I was considering the Galaxy 400W ballast, but now I am looking at the 600W. Any advice? My bloom area is 5' x 2' x 7'. It's only 40 bucks more for the 600W and think it might be worth it for increased yield. I will do two 57L rubbermaids with 2 plants each, LST'd... I am concerned about heat without an aircooled reflector. Space is tight and most air cooled will not fit with the hose ends running the same way as the bulb. I need a reflector like the Sun Supply Super Sun with the hose ends perpendicular to the bulb. This way I get proper throw from the bulb being perpendicular to the length of the grow area (5' length).

Also, anyone use Osram Plantastar bulbs? Details please....

Thanx.

Hey grow time. Do your ballasts get hot like that next to each other? I wonder if an inch or two between them would allow them to run cooler.... I know electronic gear and one thing fo sho, heat is the enemy of electronics.

Very cool about the dimmer knobs but I wonder how that affects the life of the bulb. I don't think they were designed to run at less than their intended power, but I could be wrong.

The far left one is a 120v so it definitely runs warmer. The other two are 240v so not nearly as hot running. I havent had them all running for extended lengths of time yet though so it remains to be seen. What you cant see is that there is space between the ballasts and the wall for air flow.

Ok this is my last post before i start a thread on this issue just due to the sole purpose that there isnt really very much info around here or on the net about the newest model of the lumatek line of digi ballasts; THE PURPLE LUMATEK DIGITAL BALLASTS!! I have looked up,down, around and all over the net for these and cant find them anywhere for under 300 a piece, and thats if you can find one.
(A) Why are these so hard to find?
(B) Where can i get one for a decent price?
(C) Do they come in 120 and 240volt?
(D) do they have 600watter and 1000's?

I have read that these ballasts are the newest model of lumateks and that they will definately fire hortilux and as well as many other brands with absolutely no problems, whereas the old ones had troubles. Can you guys clear this up for me pleez!!! thx :rasta:
