Whats the average ratio of male to female

there are a lot of bright people on these forums and a lot of interesting ideas. Maybe if seeds are kept at a certain temp during germination, the female to male ratio would be more favorable. Has anyone experimented with diffrent temps during germination to see if it affects sex? Would be interesting to find out more.

As i said early in the thread my mate swears if you keep the soil temp quite warm you should get more females... I'm pretty skeptical and told him so.. But he swears by it and we will soon find out.

I hear that when the temp is cooler something type of horrmone in the plant or seed is told to hurry up and grow because the season is comming to a end and it needs to make seed to keep itself live(the strain that is) not the plant.I just dont know how to say this in a sciencetiffic way(its just what I have read)

I've finished looking into this now. And it turns out, we don't know. Here are some very good links, I suggest going through them in the order posted. They are offsite links, so bear that in mind before clicking.

I guess this would be good stuff for seed growers, what I dont understand is why anyone would continue growing from seed when the cloning option is simple and you have zero males.Maybe if you're into breeding or something,I'm just into growing the most chronic pheno's I can find

i here u bro but im still fairly new to growing and havent experimented with cuttings yet. I will try my hand at cloning for my next grow u can be sure of that :yummy: For now tho i will have to settle with seeds.

Really?I was just grasping for straws man, trying to make sense of ?You really dont think breeders think about nonsense like this do you bro lol?

nonsense?

I hope they do. If you want a practical application, think about hermies in the general population of plants, and their being used to breed with. Think about the implication of selfing a plant. Think about genetic health. And evolution.

got to agree with GMT ... gotta hope they are trying to make the most stable and evolutionarily advanced seeds = sound genetics

peace

Me too,but what in the world has that got to do with trying to sprout males or females????

ballast, did you read any of the links? After reading that info, and then spending a day or two thinking about the implications, it's clear that males and females are genetically different to hermies and each other. This means that environmental factors in the grow room will only affect plants of poor genetics ( or rather unevolved cannabis). That means that the ratio of males to females depends entirely on what strain you are growing, just in order to have males and females, which in evolutionary terms, are recent terms for plants which all started out as hermies.

I had good luck I guess. I had 10 seeds of BB. 8 germinated, 7 broke ground, and 2 were males. I have 5 very nice BB females in flower and I will have herb hanging in 3 weeks. I have to buy some weed tonight though. :(
