Thanks for all the responses particularly burns that was what I was looking for. It's nice to day dream about these places particularly when it peeing it down with rain here in shitty England lol. Do people from all sorts of jobs smoke weed in Cali then ? Has it always been like that or was it once quits conservative. It just seems like a completely different state to the rest of America. Almost seems like its it own little country in a way. Cheers

People of all sorts smoke, doctor, lawyers, even cops, and judges there probably not a profession out here that doesn't smoke, or medicate.I've been out here for 18 yrs and its pretty Much ben like this the even sence 96 is w when the medical marijuana pasted it just blew up and we had all kinds of smokers coming out of the wood works.I came from the Midwest and it was a whole new world out here. I love it, but like anothor poster stated its all dependent on cash flow, I work as a heavy equipment operator and the pay is decent. Nothing I'm gonna gets rich on but enough to enjoy the finer things cali has to offer

I lived in SoCal in college and loved it. I had to keep my smoking down low in those days because I was playing ball and from another country. I was maybe paranoid while adjusting to my new home. I visited all over Cali since then and love it all. Even if they weren't cool with weed it is a fun place to live. Kind of expensive. I only left because I inherited a house in Portland.

One thing I forgot, only thing I don't like about this place is the fucking people sometimes, there are some good ones but not much hospitality, to much mean muggin. I've found great people out on the water or camping where everyone waves, says hello how ya doing, quick to help with something. But most city folk suck. You get over it pretty quick though. Doesn't bother me as much anymore.

Siskiyou county is not where you want to be, they are not very mj friendly...that area you are looking at is like a high desert, not all that great, look in Trinity or Shasta county, they are a little less harsh. Over on the coast more is a better bet...just my 2 cents

Thanks! I've seen land in and around Shasta that seems like a deal.

i often find it funny that no-one ever mentions....the downside of things.....
cost of living is outrageous, crime is thru the roof, TRAFFIC, pollution, crowds, congestion, insane politicians, earthquakes, gangs, everything cost TWICE as much, brokeASS economy, brokeASS state, cracked fault-line and falling into the ocean, and then there's the fact it's WAY to crowded, endless amounts of homeless,Covered in Cement, the phucking SMOG,...... oh and then there's this.....

The following are 22 facts about California that make you wonder why anyone would still want to live in that hellhole of a state....

#1 The California state government is facing a potential state budget deficit of 19 billion dollars this year, and California debt is rapidly approaching junk status. One way or another the taxpayers of California are going to have to pay for this mess somehow.

#2 California Governor Jerry Brown recently unveiled a "draconian" budget plan for 2011 that includes 12 billion dollars more in spending cuts and that maintains 12 billion dollars in recent tax increases.

#3 The state of California currently has the third highest state income tax in the nation: a 9.55% tax bracket at $47,055 and a 10.55% bracket at $1,000,000.

#4 California has the highest state sales tax rate in the nation by far at 8.25%. Indiana has the next highest at 7%.

#5 Residents of California pay the highest gasoline taxes (over 67 cents per gallon) in the United States.

#6 California had more foreclosure filings that any other U.S. state in 2010. The 546,669 total foreclosure filings during the year means that over 4 percent of all the housing units in the state of California received a foreclosure filing at some point during 2010.

#7 Home prices in some areas of California have completely fallen off a cliff. For example, the average home in Merced, California has declined in value by 63 percent over the past four years.

#8 725 new laws (most of them either completely pointless or completely stupid) went into effect in the state of California on January 1st.

#9 20 percent of the residents of Los Angeles County are now receiving public aid of one kind or another.

#10 The number of people unemployed in the state of California is approximately equal to the populations of Nevada, New Hampshire and Vermont combined.

#11 In some areas of California, the level of unemployment is absolutely nightmarish. For example, 24.3 percent of the residents of El Centro, California are now unemployed.

#12 Residents of California pay some of the highest electricity prices in the entire nation.

#13 The state of California ranks dead last out of all 50 states in the number of emergency rooms per million people.

#14 According to one survey, approximately 1 out of every 4 Californians under the age of 65 has absolutely no health insurance.

#15 At one point last year it was reported that in the area around Sacramento, California there was one closed business for every six that were still open.

#16 In the late 70s, California was number one in per-pupil spending on education, but now the state has fallen to 48th place.

#17 In one school district in California, children as young as five years old are being forced to watch propaganda films that tout the benefits of "alternative lifestyles", and parents are being told that no "opting out" will be permitted.

#18 The crime rate in the San Diego school system is escalating out of control. The following is what San Diego School Police Chief Don Braun recently told the press about the current situation....

"Violent crime in schools has risen 31 percent. Property crime has risen 12 percent. Weapons violations (have gone up) almost 8 percent."

#19 Oakland, California Police Chief Anthony Batts announced last year that due to severe budget cuts there are a number of crimes that his department will simply not be able to respond to any longer. The crimes that the Oakland police will no longer be responding to include grand theft, burglary, car wrecks, identity theft and vandalism.

#20 Things have gotten so bad in Stockton, California that the police union put up a billboard with the following message: "Welcome to the 2nd most dangerous city in California. Stop laying off cops."

#21 During one recent 23 year period, the state of California built 23 prisons but just one university.

#22 The farther you look into the future, the worse California's financial problems become. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, California's unfunded pension liability is estimated to be somewhere between $120 billion and $500 billion at this point.

Yort, California is the 8th largest economy in the World. Bigger than most countries. Yet there is a reason people love living there and it isn't just weed. All the big cities have a baseball team, you have Hollywood, it is absolutely beautiful there and they are trying to get the smog under control. All people have to do is not drive and smog would go away. If you get out of LA you can see the most beautiful deserts, mountains, huge trees, beaches, loads of history, and phenomenal wealth to go along with your poverty. For every bad thing there a many good things. It isn't for everyone but it is for a good many.

Times are tough and money is tight everywhere too. You have to get out and see. The whole west coast is an economic mess these last 3-4 years.

It certainly costs money to live there but there are few places in the US that don't cost that much to live...Where I live now, my pay is lower and the rent is lower. In CA my pay was much higher but the rent was higher. Here, the property taxes are more like 3% of assessed value. So my future father in law's house costs $3000 in property taxes (and it is assessed $100000). That seems pretty high to me.

It's all a matter of perspective. Traffic is horrendous here; I can barely do 80 even if it's a country road and there's no one there are way more cops out here than I saw when I lived in CA.

Land is cheap in the high deserts but there's no water. Better luck closer to the coast but the prices are higher generally. I love CA and there are some bad things about it but I'm the kind of person who loves to see and live in various places...it's just that California has so much of the geography and climate that I love.

Check out Pacoima or East Santa Ana for the full 'Cali Experience'

Ain't exactly reruns of Bay Watch......

seems like there are quite a few hotel room Chiva Kanevils's up in the toker's den...

East Santa Ana Open air's ahh memories..

Southern California has this problem where a grip of cities went into debt so bad they couldn't afford to build this freeway so a group of private business men bought up the multi city project to build this said freeway from san diego up past LA and into Riverside...well these business men including a very rich man that's laid more concrete in orange county than anyone else (aka Donald Bren) turned it into a Toll Road...with the price of gas now, its better to take the toll road then to sit in traffic but people are so used to their ways and never want to pay a toll even though its stupid to sit on the freeway and clog it up but thats what they do...so you have the entire socal traffic on the 5 freeway or the 405 freeway...these roads would be fine but because the real Riverside freeway is now a toll road, that causes the large amount of the anger with traffic down here..just shows that money is the power down here..if you have enough of it, you can literally do whatever you want..even if that means turning an entire freeway into your own private driveway and charging people to use it lol..wow sounds so weird actually saying the truth out loud

California is a fucking mess, but I really can't imagine living anywhere else. Yort is absolutely correct with his list, and the problems are far worse in the small towns. The unemployment in my county hasn't been under 16% in waaaay over a decade. Long before the economy crashed, the self-righteous but well-meaning assholes living in the population centers voted in laws that utterly destroyed the economy of most of rural NorCal. That is the problem with a democracy - well-intentioned idiots with no real knowledge of the facts wind up outvoting you a thousand to one by "voting their hearts".

If you want to see high gas prices, head into the sticks. I can drive 60 miles and gasoline is always .30/gallon cheaper, and frequently closer to .50. When my brother worked the Alaskan pipeline in the early '70's, he couldn't understand why people were always bitching about the food costs. For him, it was just like home.

I've traveled around a good bit, and I've never seen anywhere as beautiful. There are some places that come close, at least for a single aspect or maybe two, but nothing approaching the variety of California. There are a ridiculous number of people, but it is easy to get away from them - I haven't lived in a town with a population over 2,500 since I graduated from college, and that was a long time ago.

I have found Ca do be very rugged, greedy, and unfriendly compared to other States I've been to or lived. I'm shocked by the crime, that shit just wouldn't fly where I'm from.
I also am amazed how people just ignore the homeless problem, and treat pets/dogs horribly.
Ca reminds me of scary movies about the future/end of the world.
It has a lot of beautiful places as well, but so many fucked up problems. Just going to the court house to pay a traffic fine is like being in a high security prison,it's fucked. Everyone looks like they want to shank you. There are meth tweakers everywhere and they're actually like real zombies.
I would never raise children here.
I've seen more upsetting things and debauchery since I moved to Ca in the last few years than the rest of my life combined. Reading the news here is incredible depressing,so much murder, death, and crime,it's unreal.
Lastly, people in Cali don't understand or know as much about cannabis as they think they do.
In all fairness I live in very Northern Ca and have only ventured south a few times and have never really been south of the bay area. Tahoe and Santa Cruz are pretty cool though.

The Bay Area is awesome if you're in the technology industry. Business is booming, and the unemployment rate for software engineers is under 4%. I've only been here a year and a half, but I love it. It's really the technology capital of the world.

It's awesome if you're a stoner too, or if you're into psychedelics. This is the birthplace of the psychedelic movement. I just love being able to grow my plants here legally after having to hide it for 10 years growing on the East Coast.
