Because its such a BEAUTIFUL plant and I can't stand being told I can't do something.

I grew my first plant when I was 10 in 1976. Found my stepbrothers stash (why were we so dumb to hide sht in the sock drawer I'll never know... parents always found it) It was full of striped seeds. Being a cityfied farm boy (spent every summer on grandparents farm) I wondered what this seed would grow into. Planted it in a terracotta pot and put it into my bedroom window. Once I seen the first serrated 5 fingered leaf. I was hooked. It made it till it got about a foot tall and that's when old stepmom found it. Got my @ss beat, 1st bust....

At that time I'd haven't even smoked pot. That was 4 years later and had moved to the country. Columbian gold bud. Now I knew what's what. Got seeds from friends and tried to grow them out across the road in a tree grove. Dad watched me carrying water to them. He found them, was beaten again to an inch of my life. 2nd bust... Think that would stop me? Hell no. It just took a few years to finally get a grow completed. Didn't get busted growing but with the harvest. Bust 3 10 years on paper.

Bust 4 Attempted growing (long story) well that one almost got me life (25 years) but $70,000.oo + The best lawyer, another 10 years on paper.

Now I'm legal med grower. (Used it to get off pain pills. That sht WILL kill you. ) I still think its the most beautiful plant in my garden. I'm over my numbers by a factor of 100 but I don't give a sht. Come get me and pry it from my dead hands........

The first attempt was at 13 that summer. I'd started smoking some months earlier. I was a scientifically minded kid and planted some seeds in the woods. They grew to small seedlings and if I recall, something, perhaps a deer, ate them. I wanted to grow the magic beans....

The reason I tried again (and succeeded) could be summed up in one word: Agency. I wanted to have agency.

Agency: Agency is
the sense of control that you feel in your life, your capacity to influence your own thoughts and behavior, and have faith in your ability to handle a wide range of tasks and situations. Your sense of agency helps you to be psychologically stable, yet flexible in the face of conflict or change.

Freedom. Autonomy.

I started growing my own in the 90's because of the lack of quality of weed that was around.. sometimes it was OK brick weed,,, some times it was great green buds, and other times you questioned whether or not it was brick weed or a clump of dried grass from underneath someone's mower deck... Only after I learned to not show my friends only to have them rip me off.. I started having successfull grows of quality bud.. I've personally haven't bought a bag of weed since then..

My goal in growing my own was to replace having to see that guy. Every time I spent my hard earned money on this plant. I had the feeling that maybe it was something I shouldn’t do. Where when you grow it for yourself, you have abundance. You don’t have to think of it that way. It’s not like it’s taking your resources from you. It’s giving to your life.
Out of the same reasons everybody else primarily $ was married at the time my ex-wife was a real smokestack. Weed was $480 an ounce back then so fuck that …not once a week …no way.

First attempt was simply because there were seeds in my weed and I figures I should plant them. First real attempt I had read a few issues of high times and then ran into a friend that was renting a house to a grower. It became immediately obvious I needed better weed and the trick was to grow it myself. Few weeks later I bought a 400 watt metal halide. Started some seeds and the rest fell into place. Not long after that the same friend gave me some Polaroid photos he wanted to mail into high times and told me to go get then covered in other people's fingerprints. That night at work a co worker looked at the pics. Invited me over to burn one and gave me a clone of northern lights. Which at the time was better than anything I had smoked.

I was recently retired for medical reasons, friend of a friend stopped by and lit up a doobie. I mentioned that now i have some time i might look into growing my own..

Few weeks later, he stopped and again we smoked a doobie. He then handed me a Sensi Star clone and a 2bulb 2' t5 light. That first plant produced a half oz.. and a new hobby.

Believe that was just about 10 years ago, found this forum while researching.
